People constantly trying to haggle prices

I bought an item 2 months ago for £550. I'm selling it to put money towards my credit card debt and I've put it on various selling platforms.
I originally listed it for £425 but had zero replies. Now put it for £350 which is the absolute lowest I'm prepared to go, otherwise there's not much point and I'll be making a huge loss.
It's something I bought from Argos and I've included a link to the page so people can see all the info, also has warranty included.
I know things depreciate but it's only 2 months old.
I've had various messages with people trying to knock £100 off my price which is ridiculous. I just ignore them.
I had a guy who was supposed to come to look at it but then told me , "Not sure if I'm coming yet as a guy in Leeds is showing me one. And he's selling it for an absolute steal, it's an offer too good to miss!"
I couldn't care less tbh, clearly cringy attempt to get me to go, "hey wait a minute, I can offer you a cheaper price!"
Might just take it off the sites, I'd rather keep it than sell it for £200 when it was worth £550.
Not sure what's the lowest I should sell it for.

What is it? Somethings keep their value, others don't.

Nooriginalusernameidea · 01/10/2022 14:02

It's either that or 500 people asking if it's still available, I say yes and then never hear a word from them again

It's an electric bike

OP posts:
NoSquirrels · 01/10/2022 14:04

Do you want £200 more than you want the use of an electric bike?

FluffySocksAndHotChocolate · 01/10/2022 14:04

Don't drop the price however with Christmas etc around the corner it probably won't sell very fast.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 01/10/2022 14:04

In that case I wouldn't be selling it that cheaply unless I was desperate for the money.

NoSquirrels · 01/10/2022 14:04

The first rule of selling stuff is that something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it.

DoodlePug · 01/10/2022 14:05

I'd check sold prices on ebay (an option in the filters).

Sounds like something which would hold its price but people are starting to be more careful with money. Likely to shift as a Christmas present.

Nooriginalusernameidea · 01/10/2022 14:05

I honestly don't know, I'd feel silly selling it for such a low price when there's a link to the site where they can see it's worth £550 and also a proof that it's 2 months old. They're already getting a bargain for £350. Don't want to be taken advantage of.

It's 2 months old. Depending on how often you used it there could be a lot of wear and tear.

It comes down to how much you need to clear your credit card debt. Is selling for £200 and paying this off the debt a better option than having a bike that you don't use?

Nooriginalusernameidea · 01/10/2022 14:06

I don't think I've ever seen a working electric bike sold for under £300 else I'd likely have bought it myself!

I recently sold 2 identical pieces of sports equipment. Got FB message on first one and sold immediately with no haggling at all. The second one was there for months, tons of messages, loads of offering half the price. In the end I listed on ebay and got £100 over the FB price 😆

Nooriginalusernameidea · 01/10/2022 14:07

I haven't used it much, it had new brake pads put on 2 weeks ago, zero scratches, still excellent battery life etc.
Battery should last another couple of years.

Nooriginalusernameidea · 01/10/2022 14:08

I do like and use the bike, only twice a week max really, but I've got £1.8k of credit card debt

I'd take less if I needed the money. But if I didn't I'd hang on in there. I don't blame people for asking!

puddingandsun · 01/10/2022 14:09

I'd put it on eBay as an auction with the lowest you can afford to sell it for as a start price.
I never had anyone negotiating through eBay. They either buy or don't.

Eeiliethya · 01/10/2022 14:10

I'd keep it. It's worth more to you than you're going to get for it.

Nooriginalusernameidea · 01/10/2022 14:10

Yeah maybe I should just stick to ebay

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 01/10/2022 14:10

I think it's a tricky item to sell. I would wonder why you want to sell it after such a short period of time, including warranty. It's not an essential item, people would try to buy as cheap as possible.

Nooriginalusernameidea · 01/10/2022 14:10

However on eBay people keep telling me they're interested and asking questions then vanishing

OP posts:
rumbypumby · 01/10/2022 14:11

Absolutely try ebay.
Facebook/gumtree are a waste of time for this type of thing

Nooriginalusernameidea · 01/10/2022 14:11

Yeah maybe it is, but I thought it would serve as transport for someone really

MarianneVos · 01/10/2022 14:40

I would never pay more than half the new price for something second hand. Especially as even if it's £550 now at Argos it's likely you could get it for less elsewhere/with a code/on offer.

DottieDolly · 01/10/2022 14:45

I sell a lot of stuff online and buy too and know how frustrating it can be. But generally don't think I would pay more than half of what it was new. Know you're saying that it's only two only old but it doesn't come with a warrant or any buyer protection if you're selling on Facebook for example which is probs why people are haggling you don't..also people do this lots on FB marketplace. I would stick to eBay for an item like that. Also probs something that is easier to sell in spring or summer

If you've only had it a couple of months and not used it much why did it need new brake pads?
How long do they normally last?
