To share their strategy.
Of course the plan is to shrink the state. Shrink public services that are already on their knees after 12 years of austerity.

So to sweeten everyone up they announce tax cuts (benefit the wealthy more) first.
The know these are their last 2 years in power so will dessimate public services and reward their mates before they leave.

Well we should not and will not put up with this.

Let the protests start, let there be riots and unrest until they are held to account.

I don't want Ni increase to be scrapped or superficial tax cuts. I want to pay the taxes and Ni that are been offers back so we have good public services that benefit us all.

I agree but I wouldn’t say that their proposed tax cuts have sweetened everyone up.

Agree. I meant the aim was to sweeten everyone up.

And now we also know why these very same extreme right wingers (I insist on extreme here; I am personally slightly right of centre, a very boring moderate!) wanted to push the worst possible brexit to allow the real goal to happen: the bonfire of regulations.
They want to turn us into an oligarchy with a few multibillionaires at the top and the rest of us serfs at the bottom.
Fuck them.
Until Tories manage to get rid of these nutters I will be Labour all the way.

ILikeHotWaterBottles · 01/10/2022 09:29

Well someone voted for them. You didn't learn from history of thatcher etc. I bet most on here voted for them last time. Can't blame anyone but themselves.

Labour want to scrap the NI increase - they also want to keep the 1p reduction in income tax.

Also I know they have more BAME in higher posts cabinet etc. However your colour does not mean you are not extremely right wing.
As they have proven.

We can do without riots, thanks very much.

RotundBeagle · 07/03/2023 00:54

Riots and unrest? Um, no thanks.

Emotionalstorm · 07/03/2023 00:57

Small state, free market less red tape is their plan and I for one think it sounds great. Instead of training people to expect things for free, we should be friendly to business so that the country can become more wealthy.

Go get a job then or your free to pay extra tax just to to gov website, as for protesting and riots oh that's great let's destroy people's property and businesses, you sound unhinged to be honest.

EmmaEmerald · 07/03/2023 01:21

Isn't it a given they'd want to shrink the state? They're not Labour.

MintJulia · 07/03/2023 01:32

Personally I'd rather pay the extra NI and tax, to fund the nhs, and I'm a single mum, money is tight, I'm getting by.

But I absolutely won't support riots. There is an election next year. They will be voted out. Smashing bus shelters achieves nothing except a bill for new bus shelters. Don't be childish.

Suzi888 · 07/03/2023 01:38

“There is an election next year. They will be voted out.” Fingers crossed.

Depends where that wealth ends up doesn't it?

I lived in 2 overseas wealthy countries, one shared it about, the other didn't and it stayed in the hands of the elite.

The one that didn't had huge inequality and crime rates, the other was a great safe place to live.

I feel pretty safe where I live right now and I think if anyone expects better healthcare of education they should pay for it. It shouldn't be on other people go make sure your kids get the best education or you get free top notch healthcare. The NHS and state schools should be a safety net only.

Emotionalstorm · 07/03/2023 07:48

The amount we are spending on public services is simply unsustainable. We need to end the era of handouts.

sst1234 · 07/03/2023 07:50

What tax cuts? In which parallel universe have the Tories cut taxes in recent years? And why do you think they will. Despite the fact that the high taxation is killing our economy, along with our such dire fiscal policies. A lot of nonsense being spouted here.

Maybe you missed the bit where we have a larger state and highest tax burden since the war. You are mistaking this bunch of morons for the Conservative Party.

Unfortunately most people are used to freebies. As well as being economically illiterate, the have become used to getting things for free and when it all goes wrong, like it has with inflation in the last 12 months, they ask with a bemused, wide eyed look why they are being squeezed so much.

Spendonsend · 07/03/2023 07:57

The tories are the party of small state so this isn't a surprise.

I am nervous about employment laws being watered down hugely going forward though.

I do think the idea that education /health services should be a safety net is stupid though. Both have huge public benefit which is why they came in. We all benefit from a well, educated healthy population

@Spendonsend I think employment laws impose an unnecessary burden on businesses. I think businesses usually do the right thing anyway but the employment protections are too high so employees take advantage of their employers all the time (e.g. fake sickies for job interviews and other things).

Regarding your second point. Who is going to pay for all this? I hope not me.

Fair enough POV if the safety net provides cancer and long term sickness provision but even health insurance wont cover chronic conditions & most cover cancer for a year (at best) then it stops.

You feel safe right now because we haven't yet gone to the extremes, when we do, you wont, you'll live in a gated community with 24hr response, provided by a private company that may or may not have links to the criminals you seek to be protected from.

Better educated work force... means better jobs.. higher pay.. better standards all round.

TBH You sound like you re born out of time, the 1930s pre NHS, no higher education, no employment or maternity protections & few women in the workforce is more your era i suspect.. thats not a criticism.. we are all entitled to our beliefs.

Grumpybutfunny · 07/03/2023 08:19

@Alexandra2001 we won't need to live in gated communities if the police is funded properly then the criminals can all do life! What's more likely to happen is for the middle class rules around topping up of care and education are removed so your outstanding school in the middle of a new build estate gets say 2k a year on top of basic funding per child from the children's parents. Hospitals will be similar sure you can have a private room it's X per night which will raise funds. Want to jump the wait sure that's Y

Noicant · 07/03/2023 08:22

Rioting is shit, I remember a television interview during the Ferguson riots with a woman who owned a salon. Her business was destroyed, she had spent years of her life achieving something and it was gone within one night, she was just standing crying outside the smouldering ruin that used to be her livelihood. Never forget that.
