To share their strategy.
Of course the plan is to shrink the state. Shrink public services that are already on their knees after 12 years of austerity.

So to sweeten everyone up they announce tax cuts (benefit the wealthy more) first.
The know these are their last 2 years in power so will dessimate public services and reward their mates before they leave.

Well we should not and will not put up with this.

Let the protests start, let there be riots and unrest until they are held to account.

I don't want Ni increase to be scrapped or superficial tax cuts. I want to pay the taxes and Ni that are been offers back so we have good public services that benefit us all.

A smaller state is what most people strive for. Governments are not very good at running things. They spend too much money and things don't run very well.

People who want a larger state are generally the same people who see personal responsibility is an insult.

@Spendonsend I think employment laws impose an unnecessary burden on businesses. I think businesses usually do the right thing anyway but the employment protections are too high so employees take advantage of their employers all the time (e.g. fake sickies for job interviews and other things).

Regarding your second point. Who is going to pay for all this? I hope not me.

I dont think employers do the right thing, otherwise you wouldn't have countries where children are working long hours without breaks in factories with limited health and safety, or going down mines for cobalt with zero health and safety.

We already pay for education and health. Stripping it back to a safety net only isn't necessary.

@Alexandra2001 we won't need to live in gated communities if the police is funded properly then the criminals can all do life! What's more likely to happen is for the middle class rules around topping up of care and education are removed so your outstanding school in the middle of a new build estate gets say 2k a year on top of basic funding per child from the children's parents. Hospitals will be similar sure you can have a private room it's X per night which will raise funds. Want to jump the wait sure that's Y

I was replying to @Emotionalstorm who wants a very small state, not you & a small state means the Police and justice are not properly funded.

but plenty of countries use armed response and gated communities to protect the wealthy.

The problem you get when you have vast inequality... is the poor have nothing to lose.. & for some, life in prison or even death holds no fear & they wont what you have got & your life means nothing either.. i ve lived in these places, i doubt you have.

Yes its an extreme vision of life in the UK but if you want a Tiger economy, very small state and very low taxes.... then this is what you'll end up with.

I'm ok with this. This is basically what America has, the most successful country in the world. There will always be areas with very low crime and it will motivate people to do better so they can get out of the grungy places.

Emotionalstorm · 07/03/2023 12:09

Without a strong deterrent most of this country will choose not to graft and just stick their hands out expecting freebies.

Enthrallingstory · 07/03/2023 12:13

You can keep your riots thanks very much, they just destroy the areas they happen in

Thesharkradar · 07/03/2023 12:15

Who are you trying to kid?
Businesses are driven by the need to make profit and will do whatever they can get away with.

Our government is absolutely shite at running things. Other governments are better.

I am all for personal responsibility. That's why I think that everyone who voted this lying, incompetent, corrupt Tory government who wrecked the country, should take responsibility for it.

What’s your evidence for this? Fwiw I believe in a larger state and I don’t, and never have, received any benefits.

Well the ones protecting women do. So it's only right they'll be the first to go.

You have to give folk the means to better themselves, it doesn't happen by magic.

So we had the work and poor houses, hanging for stealing... the birch... yet most people did not "better themselves" they died young, in poverty.

How people improved their lot was when the state provided universal education, better health care, free higher education.... in other words some hope.

I have a better opinion of the british people, given opportunity & the means, the vast majority will work bloody hard and achieve great things but time and time again, they are let down by the state.... look at the 7m on waiting lists, many of whom were in work but now cannot work... safety net? yeah sure.

Do you know how much 1 knee op costs in a Bupa Hospital? 12k to 16k... beyond the means of a care worker forced to give up work due to a totally treatable condition but you are happy with this.
