Want to scream - online supermarket payment

Pillowqueen · 01/10/2022 07:23

I'm about to lose it.

Tried to pay for my online shop with sainsbury's. Said they didn't recognise my card details. Tried credit card. Same thing. Tried instead with Asda. Sane thing again.

Rang TSB. They said it was a problem with the 3D security that Sainsbury's and Asda were now using. They couldn't override this apparently. It was down to the supermarket so ring them. Rang them. They say I just need to speak to my bank.

Both said just use another payment method. I don't have another fucking payment method! And need my shopping!

I'm literally speaking to idiots. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Not quite the same but I had an issue completing a payment to RAC earlier this week. Had to change browser from Firefox to Microsoft Edge then it went through perfectly.

Sophieleigh26 · 01/10/2022 08:58

My Halifax card gets blocked every time I pay my phone contract to Vodafone!

worriedatthistime · 01/10/2022 08:59

I can't get mine to work at asda sometimes so i have to log in and do ot as opposed to app , other times I have to use the app
Its very annoying

TheYearOfSmallThings · 01/10/2022 09:02

I agree it is annoying OP. Yes, you can spend time finding out what is wrong and then sorting it out, and yes, we should all have different cards with different banks...but should it really be difficult to spend money at the same supermarket you always shop at, using the same card you always use? No!

worriedatthistime · 01/10/2022 09:03

@GloriousGlory she had two payment types not one and you know not everyone can open multiple accounts
Maybe live in the real world and not middle / upper class england
Its on the supermarkets to sort this out , well between them and the banks as the end user and customer to both it shouldn't be your problem

What's middle class got to do with having PayPal/Apple Pay or more than one account?

worriedatthistime · 01/10/2022 09:06

It is an issue with the supermarkets/ banks nothing to do with people forgetting security ID
Happened to me multiple times at asda and I had to switch between app and online and pot luck which would work , and I tried 5 payment types
I spoke to asda and they were pretty useless , yet it seems a common problem so you would think they would have some suggestions
Mine seems stable now though once I have had a few shops sorted

The person she was talking too did not cause the fault! They're not idiots, and should be treated with respect.

You do understand that don't you? Or are you another rude fucker who believes they've got the right to call others idiots?

worriedatthistime · 01/10/2022 09:07

@SavingsThreads well asda don't take apple pay
But having multiple bank accounts isn't possible for many, how do you not get that
Some people cannot get a credit card

worriedatthistime · 01/10/2022 09:07

Well shall we call them idiots because they can't get a credit card? Why can't they? Bad credit? Makes them idiots if that's the reason.

worriedatthistime · 01/10/2022 09:09

@GloriousGlory you aware not everyone can get a credit card ? Not everyone can open a couple bank accounts ?
Credit history, being in benefits etc all sometimes restrict that
The fact you are totally unaware that not everyone can have a string of accounts open says it all
Also your on about rudeness yet your the one swearing

No she came in a forum to say she was talking to idiots, can you imagine what she was like when addressing these people? Probably very rude!

worriedatthistime · 01/10/2022 09:11

@GloriousGlory wow keep on coming the only one looking bad is you ?
So someone on benefits is an idiot are they ?
Someone who maybe lost everything because a partner / husband died or walked out is an idiot?
You really do not live in the real world do you and understand people are struggling and many through no fault of their own

About her actually.

I'm an adult and I can swear if I want too!

gogohmm · 01/10/2022 09:12

@Raidtheice

I had a MasterCard and a visa, different banks then NatWest went and switched my visa to MasterCard grrrr. Can't change my cc as won't get a decent limit now I'm divorced (no balance on my cc I just like to know there's credit for a genuine emergency)

girlmom21 · 01/10/2022 09:13

@GloriousGlory OP called them idiots because she was frustrated with everyone just putting the blame onto each other rather than actually helping her.

She won't have phoned them angrily.

worriedatthistime · 01/10/2022 09:13

@GloriousGlory you have been nothing but rude on here so god knows what you talk to people like in real life
You have no idea how the OP spoke to them , she let off her frustrations on here
Apologised and thanked people for their help
Where as you have name called and classes those with bad crecit idiots , all why slating the OP for it

Getoff · 01/10/2022 09:16

Much less of an issue, but Santander refused to care that the bank card they sent me doesn't work in the cash machine I use. Machine just does not recognise it as a card. It works in other machines, and other cards do work in the machine I use. I opened another account with a different bank, their card does work. I now keep most of my money there.

MacaroniPoni · 01/10/2022 09:18

I had an issue a while ago with my card repeatedly being declined on the sainsburys website (but worked elsewhere) - their online help eventually told me to take the middle initial out of my name when putting in the card details (so change A N Other to A Other) - randomly it worked!

no idea if it’s the same issue, but worth a try?

Yes but generally if you have what you need to open one account you can open two. Never heard of anyone being denied a second debit card.

Plus then things like monzo/starling where you're not credit checked. Plus apple and PayPal as we say. It's really not a class issue.

Worthyornot · 01/10/2022 09:30

JellyTeapot · 01/10/2022 07:44

Ocado accepts PayPal.

Well this Is absolute nonsense. I use my debit card.

Does anyone know why Asda can’t be bothered to take Applepay or PayPal or their alternatives? It seems like a bit of a no brainer to have alternative methods of payment in place these days so that your customers have the choice of not being inconvenienced.

Pillowqueen · 01/10/2022 10:40

If it's possible to please move on from the 'idiot' saga which again I apologise for (and which appears to have taken on a thread of it's own!)

I am just appealing again for any other suggestions here. I've tried clearing the cookies etc. Restarting phone. Trying the app/not trying the app. Tried on my laptop using a Microsoft soft edge browser. Tried re-entering my card details. Nothing is working. The bank is saying there's nothing wrong with my cards. I have money in my account that's not the issue. It's the 3D security measures which are causing the issue and noone from the bank or supermarket seems to be able to give me a solution. I don't have any other cards to try.

I literally don't know what else to do. Obviously I can run out and get supplies but I need to be able to book my shopping online in the future. Has anyone else been in this situation and found a way to overcome it?
