To think I wouldn't be overreacting if I took DS to A&E?

DS is 17, he struggles a lot every winter with illnesses etc, he has ARFID which makes getting vitamins etc into him harder, he's supposed to take a vitamin supplement but I've tried everything dietician has suggested to give it to him but he knows and it makes him vomit.

He's been unwell since Monday although he seems to have gotten worse the past few days, on Wednesday night I was working and he refused to have any dinner and was in bed for about 6:30/7 DP says, I woke him up when I got home and gave him calpol as he had a temp and he threw it up not long after and went back to bed until 10am yesterday when he got up took his meds and went back to sleep and was asleep on and off all day, I tried to give him some toast last night, he took 1 bite and was nearly sick again. He was asleep early again last night and woke up today at about 12 and hes not had much to drink today apart from a bottle of water and a can of fanta (not ideal but I use this as a bribe for his meds) he seems very lethargic and is complaining he feels sick as he has what seems to be a chesty cough and he just looks poorly in his eyes etc.

DP has said I'm overreacting and to let him sleep as much as he wants as he'll sleep it off etc.

He doesn't have terrible d and v though.

CottonSock · 01/10/2022 14:16

Sounds worrying op. I hope he picks up soon..do call out of hours, 111, or a&e. You know him best

kege · 01/10/2022 14:20

I offered all his safe foods etc but he refused them all, were currently waiting to be seen, he's currently laying on the seats so he's clearly unwell

I lost weight when I had covid & didn't eat for a couple of days.

I can afford to lose weight!

I was also scarily tired!

Hope you get seen soon Op & some solutions.

Threelittlelambs · 01/10/2022 14:58

Hopefully it won’t be long but he’s obviously not right.

Maxineputyourredshoeson1 · 01/10/2022 15:23

Hope he feels better soon Flowers

Hope he gets seen and on the mend soon.

lljkk · 01/10/2022 17:56

How's it going, OP?

BetsyBigNose · 01/10/2022 18:05

I hope you get seen quickly and that your son feels better very soon.

My DD doesn't have ARFID, but when she's suffering from really bad period pain and is feeling nauseous, she will gag on any tablets, so I still keep a bottle of both kids Calpol and Nurofen handy, as it's so much easier for her to swallow and more likely to actually stay down. She's nearly 16, and says several of her friends still have Calpol rather than tablets.

YetAnotherNameChange52 · 01/10/2022 18:11

Sorry you (and he) are having such a hard time OP - it does sound like it's getting urgent, particularly if he's not drinking.

Also - less than 6 stone for a 17 year old is really underweight (unless he's very small for his age) - if he's not eating and his weight is still decreasing, that's pretty serious.

I hope you've been seen, and he's getting the help that he needs. Please let us know how you're getting on, and please do ignore some of the people on here who are being less than helpful, they obviously don't have a lot of experience of these kinds of additional needs.

Stripyhoglets1 · 01/10/2022 09:26

My dd can't swallow tablets so we still use calpol - and an alternative would be useful!

@Stripyhoglets1 I suppose you've tried the SixPlus Fastmelts (same stable as Calpol) already? We rely on them as paracetamol for DS as he can't take tablets (ASD) either. They melt in the mouth and are strawberry flavour.

A younger child might still balk at them as they are in tablet form which could be awkward, but worth a try if you haven't.

wellhelloitsme · 01/10/2022 18:55

Hope he's doing ok OP Flowers

Your post reads as if he is 7 years old.

He is practically a grown man and has a bug/ virus. Get a grip.

It sounds as if this young man has several other things going on, as the OP has described. Plus, young people are supposedly not needing care from others when sick are they?

Teadrinkingmumofone · 02/10/2022 20:44

It's gone very quiet on this thread...I'm hoping all is ok.

Verytirednow · 02/10/2022 20:48

I hope your son is being sorted OP . Ignore the negative comments…some people just lack empathy!

CoastalWave · 02/10/2022 20:49

Neither an accident nor an emergency.

However, you do need to make a Doctor's appointment.

Plus, surely if your 17yr old is 6 stone he needs help much sooner than before he has a bad virus?! My 11 year old weighs more than that. Surely actual paracetamol too would be much more appropriate rather than Calpol which is for small children? (and basically does nothing for anyone over about 3 stone!)

This is why people should not ask for medical advice online. This post is full of incorrect and frankly dangerous "advice".

Thought I’d check in and wondered how you’re getting on with your son? Hopefully he’s getting treatment and improving and also hope you’re ok too 🍀♥️

CornishTiger · 02/10/2022 21:12

@kege how is he doing.

babysharksb1tch · 02/10/2022 21:18

Have been thinking of you both OP. How's your boy doing?

cooolio · 02/10/2022 23:39

My god. Post after post tagging the OP asking how he is. Ghoulish. Leave her alone now, her question was answered but is irrelevant now.

Mind your own business. Awful

Seriously? What’s Ghoulish about checking in with someone to see how they are and how their ill child is?
Some people here actually care!

Sorry, I've only just gotten round to replying, DS was diagnosed with a chest infection and was very dehydrated, he seemed a bit better on Monday, he went to college fine yesterday so I thought he was getting better as the cough seemed a bit better, but today he was sent home early due to him being sick due to the cough, he does seem ok in himself though
