...to believe that Rupa Huq's ‘superficially’ black comment aimed at Kwasi Kwarteng is utterly reprehensible?

Apparently Kwarteng doesn't sound 'black' enough. I wonder if Ms Huq will now demonstrate for us what a black man should sound like? I also wonder why the , er, shadow equalities minister Anneliese Dodds didn't step in and reprimand her colleague?

'Dodds never said a word at the time' - I think everyone who was not present who also never said a word at the time acted reprehensibly and should resign. It looks like as well as Dodds, that would include Truss and all the Conservative Cabinet. I will look to my position, OP, as should you OP as a presumably disinterested observer.

YANBU and she has been suspended so obviously the Labour Party agree. What more do you want to happen?

And she has apologised unreservedly, including to Kwarteng. It was wrong and stupid. Why create another thread on it?

I didn't know that there was an existing thread on the subject.

I believe Labour has a problem with racism and antisemitism and that needs to be discussed - regardless of the fact that there are many on here that don't wish to.

Just an honest broker looking for a conversation about racism and anti-semitism in Labour? Sure.

Are you also concerned about racism and islamophobia in the Conservative Party? Can you direct us to the threads on these issues that you started?

And what response by Labour would indicate that they don’t have a problem with racism?

Your questioning of my motives seems rather desperate. Labour clearly has a problem with racism and anti-semitism going back several decades.

Huq has shown her true colours by essentially criticising Kwarteng who is black, for doing well for himself, whilst studiously refusing to level the same accusation at a black Labour MP.

The reason Lammy was so unusually subdued when probed on this, is because he knows Huq's comments could also apply to him. This shows me there's a problem within Labour and the nasty, divisive identity politics game that they love playing.

YANBU, OP. I've just been on the other thread but I'll put my 2p worth here as well.

Huq wasn't initially apologetic - in fact she doubled down as shown here mobile.twitter.com/breeallegretti/status/1574739936540082182

I also have no truck with the idea Starmer immediately stamped down on racism because Huq has a history of antisemitic comments.

Comparing the Tories' actions on Pincher is irrelevant: it's not like-for-like behaviour and I'm certain those using it as a defence don't really want Labour's record on sex offence allegations to be scrutinised.

Every political party must do so much better. They can't do worse - I hope!
