To go to A&E? I’m desperate.

Early hours of Saturday morning (48 hours ago) I woke with the worst stomach cramps. I’ve been pooing liquid ever since, over 50 times a day. I can’t keep anything in. I haven’t been sick but I feel sick. It’s getting no better, the stomach cramps are indescribable, I can’t even lie down they’re so awful. I feel like death and I’m scared of dehydration. Do I call 111? Go to A&E? DH meant to be away in London for work tomorrow and I have 2 young kids by myself. I need help.

OP -

  • ring GP
  • tell them your shitting blood for the last xyz hours and feel faint
  • they SHOULD call an ambulance for you and get you admitted.
  • they'll take a stool sample and see what's going on.

This happened to my mum.
She ended up in hospital for 2 weeks.
It was Campylobacter caught from chicken in a restaurant.

RING YOUR GP ASAP

Go to A&E. Its not as simple as just having diarrhoea, your u&e's will all be messed up and you're risking acute kidney injury and haemolytic uremic syndrome.
A gp can't manage this.

Summerfun54321 · 26/09/2022 08:27

Call your GP and ask for an urgent phone appointment. They may want a stool sample. I had this with E.coli food poisoning. Was off work for 2 weeks and had bloody diarrhoea. I would push for a GP call above A&E for this one, no one will want you in a waiting room and it won’t be where you’ll want to be either.

HermioneWeasley · 26/09/2022 08:27

For the love of god, go to a&e. your husband will have to sort out work

Mfsf · 26/09/2022 08:29

Go to a&e blood on the stools os enough reason . Might be salmonella or similar food poisoning and you might need treatment

Rubyupbeat · 26/09/2022 08:30

Thinking of you, really hope you have seen someone medically trained by now and that your symptoms have eased.

reesewithoutaspoon · 26/09/2022 08:31

Sounds like campylobacter . Chicken is a prime suspect and your symptoms fit

blondieminx · 26/09/2022 08:32

You are passing blood and have severe pain. Hospital, please.

Your husband needs to realise that you are ill and he will need to sort DC. You need care and support. I’m sorry he’s being a twat, that really isn’t ok.

Timeandtune · 26/09/2022 08:35

I really feel for you . Have you done a COVID test? I had similar symptoms when I was away from home overnight for work. Pain worse than childbirth. I phoned 111 who said take paracetamol.
I was eventually well enough to leave by mid morning the following day. My son had to collect me and wait 5 hours till I was stable enough to get the the car.
Anyhoo I tested positive for COVID and spent the next 2 days asleep.

Ship · 26/09/2022 08:35

It is definitely an a and E job now op. I hope you get there asap

Paleshelter · 26/09/2022 08:36

Please go to A nd E now. I'm a nurse,, don't want to scare you but potential serious complications could occur, hopefully not. Can you get a taxi if you can't get a lift? Just please go. X

Chouetted · 26/09/2022 08:36

I ended up in resus with similar issues. Please go to A&E.

spiderlight · 26/09/2022 08:36

My partner had campylobacter last November and your symptoms sound identical. I've never seen him so ill. Speak to your GP today at the very least.

PlantDoctor · 26/09/2022 08:37

This sounds horrendous. Go to a and e! I'm shocked that your husband is being a dick about this! Any normal person would do anything to help a severely ill spouse.

Try to get yourself there. Ambulances have ridiculous wait times in many parts of the country.

Please go, you sound so poorly 💐

littlemissalwaystired · 26/09/2022 08:39

I'm not one to encourage people to A&E unless really needed but it definitely sounds like the right place for you. You poor thingFlowers hope you get care soon and start feeling better.

JustlookingNotbuying · 26/09/2022 08:40

Definitely A&E. Our friend had the same symptoms as you have, from eating prawns. He was going 80 times a day, he ended up delirious and in hospital for 5 days. You can’t treat this yourself you need medical help. Hope you feel better soon op.

swgeek · 26/09/2022 08:41

Please go to A&E. Sometimes peritonitis / ruptured appendix can seem like a very bad stomach bug, it has to be checked.

Sally090807 · 26/09/2022 08:42

Could it be the chicken burger you ate at the pub, did anyone else have the chicken burger and if so, are they ok?
Hope you feel better soon. 💐

harriettenightingale · 26/09/2022 08:48

Also could be campylobacter. Not fun.

Yes, it's really awful and is what it sounds like to me. Painful cramps in waves, liquid runs every couple of hours at least without end. I was scared by the blood when wiping as well but it was irritation. I would call the GP if you can rather than 111 unless you think you need A&E. When I had it my DP popped into the surgery to get a sample pot and dropped it back for me, they had the test results back and wrote me a sick note. Doctor was very reassuring and talking to her calmed me down.

Believe it's specifically related to poultry. If it is it is a notifiable disease so you may get a call from DEFRA so they can try to pin down where you got it.

HailAdrian · 26/09/2022 08:48

Your husband should be staying home to look after the kids?

user7817811 · 26/09/2022 08:48

I'd go to A&E or at the very least try to get an emergency GP appt today if you can, blood in stool is serious. If you're unsure and 111 are no use try phoning a local pharmacy when they open?

JestersTear · 26/09/2022 08:50

Get yourself to A&E and while you're there, fill in divorce papers as your husband is sounding like the least supportive man ever at the moment!

PornographicPriestess · 26/09/2022 08:53

When you say blood IN your poo, do you mean your poo is a tarry colour or that you're seeing red blood when you have a bowel movement?

GagaBinks · 26/09/2022 08:57

Definitely sounds very similar to my symptoms when I had campylobacter. The cramping pain was unbearable. See a GP at the very least. Good luck.

Lalliella · 26/09/2022 08:57

Please go to A&E right now OP
