Early hours of Saturday morning (48 hours ago) I woke with the worst stomach cramps. I’ve been pooing liquid ever since, over 50 times a day. I can’t keep anything in. I haven’t been sick but I feel sick. It’s getting no better, the stomach cramps are indescribable, I can’t even lie down they’re so awful. I feel like death and I’m scared of dehydration. Do I call 111? Go to A&E? DH meant to be away in London for work tomorrow and I have 2 young kids by myself. I need help.

Oh OP I'm sorry to say I know exactly how you feel I had this while pregnant and it was truly horrific. I did end up in hospital and they found I had campylobacter/cryptosporidium and was severely dehydrated.

Please do get seen ASAP I hope your over the worst of it Flowers

KevinTheKoala · 26/09/2022 10:28

It's all well and good to say that hospitals don't need D&V bugs in the hospital, and it's true that it's not brilliant, but people go to hospital with contagious illnesses like this all the time because actually while a normal D&V bug isn't serious for most people, sometimes they can lead to medical emergencies. Sometimes they can kill people, so if you are saying don't go to A&E no matter what if you have D&V are you saying that those are acceptable things to die from? OP isn't describing a typical D&V bug, she's describing blood in her stools, severe diarrhea and some symptoms of dehydration, those things can suggest a medical emergency.

2bazookas · 26/09/2022 10:29

If this is food poisoning from dodgy chickenburger, and assuming you usually fit and well, symptoms should pass in 36 hours.

Keep sipping a little plain water every few minutes.

Tell DH he has to cancel London and stay home. You're not fit to cope with kids alone. He needs to disinfect the lav and hand basin regularly, you need to use a separate hand towel and ideally, you chould not be preparing food for the family.

Coffeeandcake15 · 26/09/2022 10:32

I had similar about 3 months ago, I think it was food poisoning, I possibly should have gone to the hospital but I coped at home but I was delirious, hallucinating and couldn’t stand because I was really dizzy, dirolyte and water helped. I was sick about 12 times and 6 times the next day, then I just had awful diarrhoea, so was at the point of quite bad dehydration, it took me about 10 days to start feeling normal again, I never want to experience it again. I hope you feel better soon and ask your DH to take a few days off if you’re caring for two children.

AriettyHomily · 26/09/2022 10:33

I hope you are being seen OP, this sounds beyond the normal realms for food poisoning..

Minfilia · 26/09/2022 10:37

The blood is worrying and yes I would go to A&E for this if I couldn’t get a same day GP appointment!

Coffeeandcake15 · 26/09/2022 10:39

I just read about you having significant amounts of blood in your stools this morning, you need to get to A&E as a matter of urgency and there’s no need for your DH to be a twat especially seeing how ill you are. Hugs from me ❤️

Heidi1976 · 26/09/2022 10:43

This sounds like when I had campylobacter food poisoning. Have you had anything chicken in the 48 prior to it starting? I couldn't get away from a toilet for long enough for 4 days to take a stool sample to the GP it was that bad. And yes the cramps are excruciating. A week and a half I was out of action. No vomiting though, just try to keep up the fluids and get some dioralyte!

Sswhinesthebest · 26/09/2022 10:44

FGS woman, you need to get yourself help.

Doingprettywellthanks · 26/09/2022 10:47

Wouldloveanother · 26/09/2022 07:42

So?

I suspect that the past three months may have contributed to the OP’s husband’s shitty response

Sunshinebug · 26/09/2022 10:49

Sounds like a bug. The blood should raise the concern and I’d go to A&E or phone 111 as they can get antibiotics sent to you usually via your GP.

maranella · 26/09/2022 10:50

Definitely sounds like food poisoning and the fact that symptoms came on six hours after eating the chicken burger fits exactly. Could be salmonella or campylobacter - the symptoms fit for both. I really hope you have been able to get medical help as the significant blood in your stool indicates that you need it - probably hospital, drip, etc.

When you feel well enough, Environmental Health need to be alerted as that pub you ate in sounds like it has a serious health issue with its kitchen. Flowers and hope you feel better soon.
Contact Environmental Health on 020 7361 3002 or email [email protected]. An officer will get back to you to discuss the issues.

Youaremysunshine14 · 26/09/2022 10:50

I hope the lack of update means you're at A&E now - passing significant amounts of blood from your bowel is the definition of an emergency!

caringcarer · 26/09/2022 10:55

Imodium. Take 2 to start with then another after watery stools. Drink water to stop dehydration.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 26/09/2022 10:56

This sounds so horrible op. I hope you are now at the hospital. Much love.

adriftabroad · 26/09/2022 10:58

Christ. When I had pancreatitis and nearly died, these were my symptoms.

It is the not being able to lie down, the pain getting worse, that worries me.

OF COURSE OP should go to A&E. It[s an emergency.

Hope you are hospital now OP. Not all stomach ache etc is "a bug" by any means.

baky · 26/09/2022 11:03

I would go to A&E

Badger1970 · 26/09/2022 11:10

I had food poisoning from chicken once and it took nearly 12 weeks for my stomach to right itself and 3 courses of antibiotics.

Hence I'm now vegetarian.

I'd contact your GP and ask for a sample to be tested.

Louisa259 · 26/09/2022 11:11

I once got a telling off when I waited over night to see a GP with my toddler who I thought had a chest infection. The doctor immediately called an ambulance and gave oxygen when they saw her first thing. I held off because of the awful way we are made to feel about using these services. I did not want to be seen as a time waster. If you genuinely feel that unwell you really need to see someone. That is what they are there for whether people like it or not.

HangOnToYourself · 26/09/2022 11:12

Really hope you are in a&e this sounds very scary

JacquelineCarlyle · 26/09/2022 11:21

Hope you're ok Op & getting proper medical treatment as this sounds horrendous.

Tiswa · 26/09/2022 11:27

Yes this is exactly what A&E is for

please go

CaptainSamCarter · 26/09/2022 11:33

Another one saying A&E. Hope you are ok OP.

Deckthewallswithpaintandplaydough · 26/09/2022 11:35

Oh Sweetheart how horrid. A&E asap, could be food poisoning, could be something much worse. And the fact that there’s blood is a red flag.

Cupofteaonesugar · 26/09/2022 11:40

Really hope you're ok OP. Been thinking about this thread whilst I've been working today.
I really hope you're being made to feel comfy!
Hopefully the blood is just indicating an infection/irritation which can be resolved easily ♥️
