Whether it's texts or forum messages, what's your honest opinion of people who constantly do this? Does it give you the warm and fuzzies? Or do you just wish they wouldn't?

OP posts:

It’s fucking naff.

RustyShackleford3 · 26/09/2022 02:22

It depends on context. Sometimes it seems warm and fluffy, other times it seems patronising and passive aggressive. Other times it just seems pointless and odd.

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/09/2022 02:34

It's weird and I hate it.

Sunnytwobridges · 26/09/2022 03:51

Annoying for the most part

Roselilly36 · 26/09/2022 04:39

I do it automatically to my friends, kids, even by mistake to my window cleaner the other day 😂

merrymelodies · 26/09/2022 04:44

Sickly sweet

Why? It’s so naff

SpinCityBlue · 26/09/2022 05:59

I can't stand it. That and the 'lols' at every turn, and those creepy wee humphy faced emojis everywhere either 'crying with laughter' or seemingly being the disembodied facial representation of inanity.

Not for me, no.

ScoobyDoNot · 26/09/2022 06:53

I mean, you wouldn't kiss a person after every sentence whilst speaking to them so for that reason, I think they're a bit pointless.
I get why people use them though. I only ever use them for my mum & kids (though my son never reciprocates) cos I'm a cold hearted bitch! Grin

itsaich · 26/09/2022 06:54

I do it on special occasions with very close female friends only and one male gay friend.
People do it to me constantly but I like it, it just says they are being warm.

DramaAlpaca · 25/09/2022 23:46

I don't like it much on here, but don't mind it in personal texts at all.

I'll admit to very occasionally using a x on here, if a poster is clearly very upset and needs support. Many random xxx at the end of a post shows a lack of understanding of forum etiquette IMO, it's not the done thing on here.

However, it's not half as annoying as using !!! at the end of every sentence, or even worse, punctuating sentences with 'lol'. That really irritates me.

I use way too many !!!! You would hate me!!! It's like I can't help it, it's texting tourettes!!!!

Betahydroxybutyrate · 26/09/2022 06:57

I think it makes you look a bit soft in the head.

It’s irritating and naff.

Everydaywheniwakeup · 26/09/2022 06:58

Can't stand it. It's either twee or overly familiar. I don't want people I wouldn't hug and kiss as a greeting sending me kisses. If I barely know someone and they do it, they are immediately marked as socially inept, needy, or fucking weird.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 26/09/2022 06:58

A lot of my female friends do this all the time and it doesn't bother me. It's just habit. I'd find it strange of my male friends did this.

xxcatcatcatxx · 26/09/2022 06:59

Omg do this all the time sorry! Feel so rude if I just end in a full stop, also do it at work on internal Teams messages, should probably stop that one but it’s like my equivalent of a full stop. Have ended with just a full stop due to the nature of this one and feels very strange.

girlmom21 · 26/09/2022 07:01

x is fine
xx is affectionate
xxx is bordering on sexual harassment

Aprilx · 26/09/2022 07:04

I don’t do it, but doesn’t bother me on personal messages. I would not expect it from a colleague or boss though!

sjxoxo · 26/09/2022 07:06

Not every sentence, I think that’s a bit ridiculous but at the end of a text! xx
This is a thread for @ loveofhuns Instagram 😂

oopsfellover · 26/09/2022 07:10

I like it for personal messages to friends as I think it conveys affection. Not needed in many other contexts really. I think they can be used a bit passive-aggressively too, although tbf that amuses me

CongratulationsBeautiful · 26/09/2022 07:14

I do it sometimes. Including sometimes at work - but only with people I know pretty well and in informal messages. I'm very senior in the business, so I hope people don't think it makes me an 'idiot'! I never call people 'hun' however. What a thought! Shock

I also use emojis.

Menora · 26/09/2022 07:16

I don’t really do it. I can’t do this for work no one else ever does it and I would be odd. No one else I text does it either!

DisplayPurposesOnly · 26/09/2022 07:16

Loathe it. Really really loathe it. It's fucking twee, infantile and vomit-inducing.

FangsForTheMemory · 26/09/2022 07:18

I think some people do it to indicate they are ending the conversation. It really gets on my nerves.

UnderCoverFieldAgent · 26/09/2022 07:19

DH’s ex-wife uses an ‘x’ as a full stop. Weirdly, she only started doing it after we’d been together about three years and when DH asked her why she was sending her kisses, she said they were full stops…weird 🤔

ChagSameachDoreen · 26/09/2022 07:23

It's a bit people-pleasery.
