Income tax - top 45% rate scrapped! Bonkers!

1000 replies

HoppingKangaroo · 23/09/2022 12:29

The 45% top rate of tax (which currently applies on earnings above £150,000) will be scrapped entirely. How will this help the economy? It will just add to the government debt and it just helps out the very weathly.
Why not have more help for the poorest in the country and not have tax cuts for the very wealthy.

Well yes, I am reacting to how you post. You must understand how ignorant it is to claim that your taxes paid for my education. Can you honestly not comprehend that not everyone here was educated in the UK?

How small-minded.

I said “probably”. So now you’ve called me ignorant, bigoted, small minded and performative. What audacity you have.

Its amazing how people who have nothing more to add to a discussion resort to personal insults.

Buy equally, you must understand how ignorant it was to assume that "people like" @Blossomtoes are not paying their fair share of taxes. Can you honestly not comprehend that not everyone who pays high taxes wants to pay less?

How small-minded.

Yes, it is indeed a great shame that the Tories sold of all our natural resources to other countries at greatly reduced prices.

100% agree!!!

HRTQueen · 23/09/2022 22:19

What a message they have sent to the electorate

Out with populist policies to win over voters

it’s very clear the party isn’t the party for the poorer and more vulnerable in our society or even those on an average wage

I'm reminded of that favourite MN phrase, "when someone tells you who they are, believe them".

The Tories have undoubtedly told the electorate who they are and what they stand for today. The question is, will the electorate believe them, or will they keep voting for them as blindly as they have done previously?

yep - lets - sounds fine to me.

Nope - Thankfully if that’s their manifesto they won’t get voted in.

Don't be so sure. Polls look OK to me and today's budget isn't going to win over anyone other than the Delboy millionaires (this time next year Rodders....)

To be fair, Truss is working even harder than Boris to ensure it doesn't matter what is in Labour's manifesto.

Polls at the end of August suggest that the constituency that I live in that has never had a Labour MP will have one after the next General Election.

Now it may be that something significant has changed since then that I have missed to change that.

A lot can change in 2 years…..yes Labour are ahead, but fingers crossed the Tory party pull a rabbit out of the hat. Maybe increasing the threshold for the 40% tax, now that will be huge for almost all the country.

@Caps0218 I don't know if you missed the news today, where the Chancellor in the not budget announced all the steps he is taking to make the cost of living crisis worse?

Notonthestairs · 23/09/2022 22:47

Honestly I want budgets based on more than fingers crossed. I don't think I am alone in hoping for more than a wing and a prayer from the government.

An OBR assessment would have been a decent start.

basilmint · 23/09/2022 22:47

Have they completely given up on the "levelling up" agenda? Are the red wall votes no longer considered important?

They haven't given up on levelling up.

That's because they never meant to do any levelling up.

Disagree….he’s the most qualified chancellor this country has ever had….let’s see what inflation is like in 6/9 months.

No one seems to realise how hard the average person works in China compared to us. We have all become so slack. We all need to start putting the hours in and improving our productivity.

Is this Be more like China a new Tory thing then?

Yes, lets. I might just pop into the bookies tomorrow to see what odds they’ll give me on the country being bankrupt and bailed out by the IMF by April.

As far as I understand how this thread has gone, he is the most qualified and brilliant because he is being paid the most.

Just don't ask who is paying him.

You can’t judge him on 3 weeks. You need to see how is plan will turn out.
you may not like the mini-budget, but the Economics Phd Chancellor believes it will.

SonicHg · 23/09/2022 22:55

Isn't it obvious? It's incentive for people to work.
