Income tax - top 45% rate scrapped! Bonkers!

1000 replies

HoppingKangaroo · 23/09/2022 12:29

The 45% top rate of tax (which currently applies on earnings above £150,000) will be scrapped entirely. How will this help the economy? It will just add to the government debt and it just helps out the very weathly.
Why not have more help for the poorest in the country and not have tax cuts for the very wealthy.

It's amazing how people just couldn't care less about the prosperity of our country all they want is for us to be fair and earn a similar amount. Socialism doesn't work in progress it's been tried and tested.

No-one’s suggesting that you do that though, only that you stop being so resentful of people who made different choices to yours.

Hold on - that's exactly what the poster was saying we all needed to do in order to compete with China.

I'm fairly sure that there are plenty of people in this country who have worked those hours anyway for little reward who have every right to feel resentful.

MyStarBoy · 23/09/2022 21:55

The good news is they won't be re-elected after this complete and utter corker 😂

I’m getting very bored with referring you to Scandinavia.

Facts, @Luckydip1 , facts! And reasoned analysis. Still waiting

@Luckydip1 it is certainly amazing that the spongers who presented the budget today do not care about the prosperity of the country.

It’s insane, I really wish sensible Rishi was prime minister, he at least knew basic economics. Trickle down economics doesn’t work and the additional tax from bankers in the city isn’t going to scratch the surface of the debt the government is getting us into with this budget.
They are kicking a debt problem down the road. Theresa May needs to tell Liz that the magic money tree doesn’t exist. The Tories are usually the party of caution and sensible spending,
thank god they still know what a woman is.

You have to give him the benefit of doubt. He is the most qualifies Chancellor this country has ever had. Highly educated with a phd in Economics.

I'd quite like a country that is both fair AND prosperous - obviously that makes me a crazed communist\socialist\loony lefty though.

Something must have dramatically changed since the start of September then to make you so sure. What is it?

Scandinavia taxes high earners a similar amount to what the UK does, but taxes middle and low earners far more highly.

If people like you paid your fair share we could have Scandinavian-level services, but instead you want to keep your taxes low and have the wealthy pay far more.

How dare you. People like me? I’ve been paying my fair share for 50 years, 20 of them as a higher rate tax payer. My taxes probably educated you.

No, we don't want everyone to earn a similar amount. We want everyone to be able to afford at least a basic standard of living so that they can live their lives with dignity and without worrying about where their next meal is coming from.

Yes, but if people can't be bothered to work hard enough, why should I pay for them to eat?

Luckydip1 · 23/09/2022 22:05

I think the average Brit does the bare minimum amount of work they can get away with because of our progressive taxes.

I think that depends on your definition of 'hard enough'

No, they didn’t, and drop the performative outrage please, your posts on here paint a very clear picture of how you operate.

You make some very bigoted and ignorant assumptions about others. It does not reflect well on you.

The Tories are on the rob - well - more so now.
They know that they're going to be annihilated in the next election, so they're on a smash and grab spree while they can.

Yes. - let’s all vote Labour, who will reverse the tax cuts and probably increase taxes…which will make people have less take home pay….Labour who want to reduce the inheritance tax threshold from 500k to 350k, Labour who want to add VAT onto Private school fees…..yes, wonderful.

@Caps0218 Are you aware that whilst these tax cuts will mean people have more take home pay, they also mean that people will have less money to spend?
The pound is plumetting so the cost of fuel and any imported goods will rise, the cost of household borrowing is going to soar, so this budget will make everyone poorer.

Well yes, I am reacting to how you post. You must understand how ignorant it is to claim that your taxes paid for my education. Can you honestly not comprehend that not everyone here was educated in the UK?

How small-minded.

yep - lets - sounds fine to me.

I think I have worked out why the Tories have elected Liz Truss as Prime Minister, someone who has less charisma than my sponge.

They have seen how successful Keir Starmer has been and so wanted someone who would make him look like a party animal.
