To ask how much you would expect to pay for this school trip?

Trying to work out if I am just being tight! I know the attraction as we have visited it recently and it is only £4.50 per child general admission to get in - and I would expect an educational visit to have preferential rates?

  • Trip to Museum
  • Transport there and back (50 miles each way)

What would you expect to pay? ( I know that we aren't obliged to pay it. I will, as it wouldn't feel right not to.)

£33

Angelinflipflops · 21/09/2022 15:02

£20?

AntlerRose · 21/09/2022 15:02

Coaches are really expensive so I'd think around £18-25

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 21/09/2022 15:02

£25

TrashPandas · 21/09/2022 15:02

How many children going?

Assume the transport is a coach?

rosesinmygarden · 21/09/2022 15:03

Hopefully not more than £35.

Coaches cost an absolute fortune and it's rising due to fuel costs. That will be the majority of the cost.

Icanstillrecallourlastsummer · 21/09/2022 15:03

Around £20

Talipesmum · 21/09/2022 15:03

Coaches cost thousands. So if they’re going by coach, at least £30 per head maybe? It’ll all be the transport, not the entry fee.

Shiningstarr · 21/09/2022 15:04

£35

Mistlewoeandwhine · 21/09/2022 15:04

20-25

youngestisapsycho · 21/09/2022 15:04

Maybe £10… our PTA fund would subsidise the coach cost

soupmaker · 21/09/2022 15:05

For a hundred mile round trip at least £20. It does raise the question though about how school funds these types of trips. The Parent Council at the school mine go to raised funds all year so that transport costs for trips could be subsidised.

RoseslnTheHospital · 21/09/2022 15:05

Preferential rates for schools are often just that the teachers get in for free, so I would expect full price for the child plus the cost of coaches for the day. So £30 ish perhaps?

Christmascaroll · 21/09/2022 15:05

Schools aren't allowed to make a profit when charging for trips like this.

PAFMO · 21/09/2022 15:06

Coaches WERE costing between 400-600 pre-Covid where I am. For a 33 seater. So..give or take £20 a head.
No idea now, but I imagine considerably more. £35-£40?

edwinbear · 21/09/2022 15:06

I'd expect about £30, primarily due to the coach.

amylou8 · 21/09/2022 15:07

£20 ish...not more than £25.

hedgehoglurker · 21/09/2022 15:08

Depends on numbers, but if travelling by coach I wouldn't be surprised at £40/ £50. Our children's schools have managed to arrange many cheaper trips by utilising public transport.

WotsitsQuavers · 21/09/2022 15:10

£30-40 but wouldn't be surprised it it's gone up to £50. Hiring a coach is the expensive part.

PatriciaHolm · 21/09/2022 15:10

A coach big enough for one class could easily cost £1000 for a day right now, so you are looking at £30ish each just for that unfortunately.

I think it's going to mean a radical reduction in these types of trips for many schools.

Acunningruse · 21/09/2022 15:10

This is so helpful thank you. Its £22 which felt a little steep given the low entry price but the transport cost explains it. Thanks!

SummerHouse · 21/09/2022 15:10

£21

Beamur · 21/09/2022 15:12

Quick Google suggests a 70 seater coach is maybe £4 a mile to hire. Not sure if that includes the driver.
So £4 x 100 miles = could be as much as £400
30 kids?
Travel could easily add £20 to the cost

rongon · 21/09/2022 15:13

I'm a teacher and we recently tried to book a coach for a day trip (less than an hour journey time and within the school day) that came back at £25 per pupil! That was just for the coach.

FruitToast · 21/09/2022 15:13

Well we're paying an extra £12 to admission price to get a coach for a 3 mile trip. The destination in question is one we visit frequently as it's literally around the corner from us. Was shocked when I saw the price! So I imagine at least £25-30 if not more.
