Just got back at 6 this morning from a week in turkey. Im knackered we’ve just had a takeaway OH is going mad at me as we need to crack on.
but my gosh it’s too much for me to Face I would rather ease into it all. First wash on maybe have a nap and come back to it later but no it’s all GO GO GO with him.

Yes I do multiple loads on day of return. However I wouldn't force DH to help me. In your case I would tell him to crack on if he wants to but I'm off to bed.

We tend to get the clothes cleaned and ironed and packed by someone/company on the penultimate day... Get the suitcase(s) delivered back to us the morning we leave.

Then it's just shoving the clothes we wore in the meantime into a bag/small case and putting them in the normal laundry when we get home.

Then 98% of our clothes are ready just to put it the drawers whenever.

It depends on what time we get back and if I have managed to sleep on the plane or in the car on the way home.

We came back from a longhaul flight in July, we landed 8am ish and were home by 11am. I hadn't slept much but I was feeling quite awake, I came in the door, kettle on, suitcases in the spare room, dirty washing separated in to colours and the first load on whilst we had a cuppa and dozed on the sofa. We had the full weekend ahead of us and we came back to the UK in all the hot weather so I wanted to get all the washing done and out on the line as it was drying so quickly.

Ok hands up I’m one of those sad people that cleans the house to a inch of its life before I go on holiday as I can’t stand to come home to a messy house.

then when I’m packing to come home I sort out all the washing out into whites , coloured and darks , so as soon as I get home I can put the first wash on, even if it’s in the middle of the night. Try to get all the washing and ironing done in the first day I’m home.

but I don’t cook , will go and do a food shop, but usually get a take away for tea first night home.

And yes I know I’m sad, but I really hate a messy house and just want suitcases, and cloths all put away. I don’t do well in mess I need a calm sorted home or I get stressed.

can’t stand it if it’s rain the day I get home I’m so happy if it’s a good drying day and I can get it all sorted.

I’m a slattern. I haven’t fully unpacked my case a month after I got back from my holiday. I’m going away again next week!

This is why I love doing a wash on holiday (we usually self cater) just before we come home. Especially if it has been a hot country as it dries so fast.
Get home and unpack clean clothes into drawers, then travel clothes and any small bits I didn't get to wash (last day clothes etc) go in the wash as soon as we are in. One wash and done and dusted.

I might put a wash in but Ive also been known to have the full suitcases cluttering up the hall for a couple days. Then they go to the upstairs hall for another day. Then my bedroom. Then eventually about a week later get emptied.
Tell your husband he can crack on by himself.

AlwaysLatte · 21/09/2022 23:46

I can't bear taking dirty clothes home. I always wash as I go and bring them home clean.

iekanda · 22/09/2022 00:19

I put a wash on as soon as I come in the door. It takes almost no time at all to start a washing machine. And it does the work for you, whilst you do whatever else you need or want to do.

When we get back I get DH to take DC to soft play or swimming etc so they are out of the house all morning and then crack on (from about 9ish if its a late flight - no point getting up early after a late flight especially if DC jetlagged.) I get to potter in peace, play music etc and the house is lovely when they get back. Usually I get them to bring something easy for lunch too. I'm terrible on flights and won't sleep no matter how long or overnight but DH will so I'm on child duty on the flight and then he has all the energy to be the fun one the next day.

I sort the washing into separate loads when I pack it into the suitcase and then only the washing suitcase goes to the laundry room and is emptied and the first load put on. The suitcase with everything else goes upstairs and is unpacked. So all unpacked within about 15 minutes of getting home.

I like to have all the laundry washed, ironed and put away as quickly as possible. I couldn't imagine it all hanging around for a week or more.

Oblomov22 · 22/09/2022 04:31

Yes I would put a couple of loads on as soon as I got home.
