Just got back at 6 this morning from a week in turkey. Im knackered we’ve just had a takeaway OH is going mad at me as we need to crack on.
but my gosh it’s too much for me to Face I would rather ease into it all. First wash on maybe have a nap and come back to it later but no it’s all GO GO GO with him.

I leave the house sparkling before we go away with fresh sheets on the bed. I’m literally mopping the last bit of the floor while ushering the kids out to the waiting taxi. I also have our first meal planned (could be takeaway or something I have in the freezer).

When we get in I make the kids give me all their dirty washing and put a load on a nanosecond after getting in the door. Only then can they relax.

Findahouse21 · 21/09/2022 15:35

I pack the dirty washing in coloured loads in the cases, so washing when we get back is a 2 min job. I get it on ASAP, can't relax until it's done.

onemouseplace · 21/09/2022 15:35

DH does this and it drives me mad - everything has to be unloaded and put away and tidied up before he'll sit down. I quite often need the sit down before I tackle it (and then a few interim sit downs along the way).

AtomicBlondeRose · 21/09/2022 15:36

Yep, washing on, cases unpacked and put away ASAP otherwise you flop and they end up hanging around for days getting in your way.

AlisonDonut · 21/09/2022 15:37

Wash on, including what you are wearing to travel home, then straight to bed for a nap. That's how I roll.

10HailMarys · 21/09/2022 15:40

We unpack the cases and put the dirty stuff in the laundry basket. We (well, DP) might put a load of washing on, depending on what time it is. But no more than that.

Icanstillrecallourlastsummer · 21/09/2022 15:46

He can get on with it then.

minidancer · 21/09/2022 15:46

Get it done, then relax. I hate having stuff lying around

Cameleongirl · 21/09/2022 15:53

I can't stand suitcases lying around in the hall so I'll unpack them quickly. I may not put the washing on right away if I'm exhausted, though, it'll go in the hamper.

FastFood · 21/09/2022 15:57

I do crack on but 1) I'm on my own and 2) I always clean before leaving so there's just unpacking and washing to do.
I empty my backpack, I put the clothes in the washing machine, everything else is put back where it belongs and within 15 min, I'm in the bath, relaxing and ready doing nothing for the rest of the day.

SunshineLollipopsRainbow · 21/09/2022 16:49

I empty the suitcases of the clothes into washing baskets in the hallway to save lugging them upstairs and then will usually get the first wash on quite quickly

zingally · 21/09/2022 16:53

I'm a bit like your husband I'm afraid!

I unpack fully before I let myself sit down and rest! Otherwise, it just doesn't get done for days and days!

HintofVintagePink · 21/09/2022 17:00

To pack coming home, all clean stuff goes in one case and other cases have sorted laundry in; whites, colours whatever. As soon as we get in I put the first load on. Suitcases stand next to washing machine until empty, then they get put away.

We clean before we go away, so whilst the first wash is on we open curtains and windows, start the Zoomba and put travel mugs etc in the dishwasher so that gets a good run.

Everyone has a shower, in to pjs (no matter what the time!), so travel clothes get washed too. We bundle on the sofa, pop a film on if it’s not too late and enjoy the last dregs of holiday.

DH or I swap out the laundry during the film and we usually get 3/4 loads done during that time.

It sounds a lot but it really isn’t; we make it part of the last bit of our holiday.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 21/09/2022 17:22

I will unpack the same day but laundry just goes in the laundry basket to be done the following day or thereabouts. Everything else is either unpacked and put away or stored in the suitcase (in the case of stuff I have specifically for travelling) which is put back in the cupboard.

But WTF is all this cleaning? I don’t clean before I go because I don’t have time (unless you count emptying bins so nothing goes off while I’m away) and I certainly don’t start cleaning when I’ve just got back!

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 21/09/2022 17:33

I don't understand, don't you clean everything before you go away, so it doesn't all go mouldy while you're away? What cleaning is there after a holiday? Have I missed something obvious?

Cranarc · 21/09/2022 17:36

I clean before I go. Rather along the lines of having to have clean pants on when going out in case you need an ambulance, I worry that if I go under the proverbial bus while away I don't want anyone seeing my filthy hob and cobwebby corners. When we get back I like to crack on with laundry but it depends what time it is and how tired I am.

greenhousegal · 21/09/2022 17:38

Oh FFS. MN is full of cleaning freaks, daily sheet changers, washing and floor moppers.

I think my handluggage still has stuff in it from my last trip. Not clothes. It's great to find long lost items in there.

I don't unpack for a day or two, and only then if I feel like it. Too fkn depressing really.

I have a DP on the other hand who is well trained, likes to be "doing" things, so I either have a nap or sit on the sofa and watch him do his thing. Everyone's happy.

MumCanIDoThat · 21/09/2022 17:40

I'm like your dh. In fact one suitcase is only with dirty clothing.I also factor in a laundry service. So it's booked for the day we return and delivered in 24 hours. We also make sure that the house is spotless before we leave.

PuttingDownRoots · 21/09/2022 17:42

We are due back from our next holiday at 3am on Christmas Day.

The conservatory will be empty before we go so the bags can be dumped there until boxing day. Or New Years, since we will likely go to visit family on Boxing day....

BrightYellowDaffodil · 21/09/2022 17:52

don't you clean everything before you go away, so it doesn't all go mouldy while you're away?

You think your house will go mouldy while you’re away? Hmm

Cameleongirl · 21/09/2022 20:03

Sorry, @PuttingDownRoots , that’s not good enough. The washing machine should be on by 3:30 a.m. at the latest. 🤣🤣

girlfriend44 · 21/09/2022 21:54

First thing is to go shopping.

Shitzngiggles · 21/09/2022 21:56

I haven't even unpacked yet and I've been back a week. DH has unpacked and washed his.

PercyPigInAWig · 21/09/2022 22:08

So people are itching to get their washing done? I really did not know this, our cases just get unpacked over the next few days after we get home.

UmbilicusProfundus · 21/09/2022 22:37

Erm I do the washing on holiday…
