Neighbours cat sh*ting in our garden

Sasha818 · 20/09/2022 13:37

Does anyone know how I can stop this from happening pls? I have a toddler who loves to be outside playing in the garden. Next doors cat for months now has decided our garden is it’s toilet.

There is sh*t everywhere around my child’s toys, on our cobblestones just everywhere around the grass in the garden really. My partner is picking it up every night.

they have 2 small kids 2 big dogs and artificial grass so I’m guessing that’s why the cat comes to ours (was told they don’t usually toilet on artificial grass?)

please give me some tips to get this creature out of our garden without me constantly being afraid of my child falling or rolling in it’s poo! It’s also a very scruffy outdoor cat.

@AllThingsServeTheBeam

A cat would be more likely to harm the birds in my garden than some fence spikes.

Obviously I wouldn’t want any wildlife to come to harm in my garden, but if they did it would be the fault of the cat owner not keeping their pet on their own property. Cat owners that let their cats roam instead of cat proofing their own gardens clearly don’t give any shits about wildlife considering they let their cats out to kill birds and mice and frogs and anything else they can find just for fun.

I think 2 things help (1) sharp long shock with a freezing cold water pistol and (2) sonic scarer. We have used both with good success. You don't need to do the water pistol thing for ever just a few sharp shocks.

The RSPB says that cats don't have a significant impact on bird numbers. What's killing birds is the destruction of their habitat and chemicals used in agriculture

We had a problem with next door's cats using our garden as a litter tray.
It stopped when we got a dog, a lurcher. Our lurcher is a lot quicker than a cat so the cats learned that entering the garden is high risk.

Why is this not working for me!!

Nah it really wouldn't. Cats tend to kill birds that would never have made it anyway. Have a read up on it.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 20/09/2022 20:10

Meseekslookatme · 20/09/2022 19:28

It wouldn't. They are much smaller and lighter than your normally shite factory.

Foxes? Really? Smaller than my cat? Wow you must have some really small foxes. In fact the pigeons we get are bigger than 2 of my cats

LicoricePizza · 20/09/2022 20:16

Just read you already have 2 dogs!

Do you let them do their business in your garden? Maybe a good idea to leave it overnight before picking up so as to deter the cats??

Sure you’ve already tried it tho. Just the presence & smell of my dog stopped my neighbour’s cat.

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 20/09/2022 20:21

Jeyes fluid is no more toxic than many household or garden chemicals. Should everyone using it to disinfect poultry sheds and animal runs stop using it because some people can’t be arsed to look after their cats properly?

I look after my cats fine thanks duck.

Alexaplaysomething · 20/09/2022 20:26

I started sprinkling my used coffee grounds round the edge of the garden. Helps the plants and stopped the cats coming onto our front garden even tho it's exposed on 3 sides. It's created an invisible force shield.

The phrase 'cat proofing their garden' always makes me chuckle. How do you suggest people do this? Cats can jump. If I so much as leave a window open my cat will get out. He likes being in the fields and woods around our home.

Cats have a legal right to roam. Stop being so entitled. Animals and wildlife have a right to the planet as well.

Sunnyqueen · 20/09/2022 22:09

How the fuck do you cat proof a garden?? 😂😂😂I'm not a cat person but that's just ridiculous. Those fuckers can jump like 8 feet ffs.

Sunnyqueen · 20/09/2022 22:12

Also surely cats killing birds and mice etc isnt because they are doing it for fun it's their natural instinct. It's literally nature, cats are also animals ffs.

Pr1mr0se · 20/09/2022 13:47

The only way to try and stop cats shitting in your garden is to get a cat yourself.

Doesn't work. I have two cats of my own and neighbours cat comes and does it in the middle of the lawn.

StacyNotGavin · 20/09/2022 22:16

For one day, just one day, be on hose pipe duty. Spray it every time you see it. We've had this problem. It has since stopped but it still has a look from time to time but never comes in. Good luck.

I feel your pain OP.
I HATE cats because they're pests that are just left to roam around and shit everywhere and 'no one can do anything about it'.

I actually very recently said to my husband that the next time our next door neighbours cats shit in the garden I'm going to throw the shit back over their fence. Then if the little cunt does it again I'll post the the shit through their letterbox.

I loathe cats too. Despise them, evil looking things.

HickoryStump · 20/09/2022 22:29

I had 2 or 3 of the neighbourhood cats competing for rights over my garden. I bought a motion activated water pistol. I did have to leave a note out to warn the postie (still got him a few times) but gave me endless pleasure watching the offending mogs get jetted just as they popped a squat! All clear after a week or two, they all keep their distance.

Sasha818 · 20/09/2022 22:40

Thanks everyone !!

I’m going to definitely purchase a motion detector to squirt it! Driving me nuts. I agree I don’t want to buy anything that will do it harm but also don’t want it’s sh*t doing my child any harm.

The neighbours have 2 big dogs so I don’t think it would care about any other dog... plus I won’t be paying out for an animal for this pest I don’t have the time for a dog !

I agree with the people saying it’s not my responsibility to be cleaning up their animals sh*t.

My child is too young to understand to watch out for it ...I just want to be able to go out in the garden in the mornings without having to do a check everywhere while my toddler has a tantrum wanting to play as she doesn’t understand she can’t play yet due to dirty cats sh*t laying around somewhere.

We bought the house a year ago we live in a new build and the neighbours moved in about 3 months after us it’s only a recent thing tbh.

I don’t even know if it goes in there house or is completely an outdoor cat that just gets fed and lives in their garden. There dogs live in the garden. It’s a pest

How the hell have you got the barefaced cheek to say not wanting someone else's cat crap in your own garden is 'entitled'?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/09/2022 23:36

I'm sorry for your conundrum. BUT, it's such fun reading the responses and ideas!
"Are you sure it's cat shit?" killed me!
Oh, how I needed this thread today!
My idea: if you don't think you can approach your neighbours take the cat in and keep it. Make the poor thing your house cat. Seems like this cat prefers your place anyway. Maybe the cat is actually trying to signal to you to take him in? 🤔

That would be harassment and then YOU would be the pest.

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 21/09/2022 00:37

I must be tired. I just read that title as neighbours start shitting in our garden instead of cats shitting in our garden 😁
Was thinking WTF 🤣

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/09/2022 03:38

Oh. My. God. Now THAT would be a great thread! 😭
