Neighbours cat sh*ting in our garden

Sasha818 · 20/09/2022 13:37

Does anyone know how I can stop this from happening pls? I have a toddler who loves to be outside playing in the garden. Next doors cat for months now has decided our garden is it’s toilet.

There is sh*t everywhere around my child’s toys, on our cobblestones just everywhere around the grass in the garden really. My partner is picking it up every night.

they have 2 small kids 2 big dogs and artificial grass so I’m guessing that’s why the cat comes to ours (was told they don’t usually toilet on artificial grass?)

please give me some tips to get this creature out of our garden without me constantly being afraid of my child falling or rolling in it’s poo! It’s also a very scruffy outdoor cat.

Why are the neighbours lazy pet owners? What do you want them to do? Train it to shit on its own garden, have a word & ask it not to do it?

i feel for you OP but I don’t think you’ll easily stop it unless you had a cat or dog of you own.

If you don't want your pet to upset others/meet it's end under the wheels of a car, then cat proof your garden or keep it in.
As simple as that.
If you don't care about others or fluffy being crushed to death then carry on.

Put lemons and lemon juice around the perimeter. They hate that and it works 🍋🍋🍋

sjxoxo · 20/09/2022 15:56

If you can’t beat it (and I doubt you can) you might be better offering it a set place to go!! A little pile of gravel and at least the poo will be all in one place 😬 could you even set that up outside of your property.. like a poo decoy 😂😬

LunchBoxPolice · 20/09/2022 15:59

chilli powder around the parameter and where it had already crapped worked here.

Ludo19 · 20/09/2022 15:59

Jeyes fluid is highly toxic please DO NOT use this to deter the cat. I understand its annoying for a cat to be shitting everywhere but it's something else to poison it!

If you know it is their cat i.e. you see it, then take the shit back to the owners.

Cat owners can fuck off.

DontStopMeNow1 · 20/09/2022 16:05

Motion activated sprinklers and a good hosing for the more determined little bastards worked for me.

Also, if you have a neighbour with dogs, put some poo into a small plant pot and place where the cats access your garden - the smell puts them off.

carefullycourageous · 20/09/2022 16:05

I also agree with fence spikes and you can spray with water. You can hiss at the cat and scare it away. You can't physically harm it or use anything that would poison it.

We used to criss-cross canes over the ground so there was no where easy to go.

Sometimes you have to just break the habit - if you can get it to switch to someone else's garden then you can then dial it down a bit.

Amelia891 · 20/09/2022 16:05

This happened to us EVERYDAY last summer. We tried everything, motion sensors, granules, every weird suggestion I could fine on Google. The only thing that worked was my parents dog coming over every now to bark at the cat and I guess spread a dog scent all round the garden. Only took a few instances of the dog barking to scare the cat off for good. Do you have a friend that could bring their dog over a couple of times?

Belladonnamama · 20/09/2022 16:05

Get peppermint pellets. I think it's called get of. I had the same problem when we moved into our home and had two young kids. There was a stray who used out garden as a toilet. I put the pellets down, they are like little gel balls and it worked.

bellabasset · 20/09/2022 16:09

I have every sympathy with you if you have small dcs and a small garden. PLEASE do not buy spikes. I hav a garden that wraps round my two next door neighbou

jeaux90 · 20/09/2022 16:11

I use the motion sensors that give off a screech small animals hear. Keeps the bastard cats out of my garden

bellabasset · 20/09/2022 16:15

Phone posted too soon. Spikes were left loose on the wall to stop the new *kitten next door from going into their garden. He knocked them into mine. A friend and I tried on them when pruning. I has words with the neighbour, next ones I found were thrown back which they found whin outside with the 8 year old.

As your garden is small cat proof it with netting and posts.

*Said kitten is now 5 and upstairs asleep on my cat's bed with her on my bed.But I have a big garden.

Technonan · 20/09/2022 16:19

Get a dog. It's the surefire way to keep them out of your garden. Some cat repellants do work. Throw water at them. A big soak them water pistol will help scare them off, and it won't hurt them.

I don't get having cats and dogs, and having artificial grass.

bellabasset · 20/09/2022 16:20

As for me, you can't possibly think I use the garden. I have a smart litter tray cleaned and disinfected every day.

The only way to try and stop cats shitting in your garden is to get a cat yourself.

Or a vicious dog

carefullycourageous · 20/09/2022 16:21

As your garden is small cat proof it with netting and posts.

You could probably do a lot with netting actually, it would be better to have to put up cat defences than have to pick up cat shit.

Wouldloveanother · 20/09/2022 16:24

YellowTreeHouse · 20/09/2022 13:55

Put the shit back on their doorstep every single time.

Install spikes on your fence.

Hose the fucker when it comes in.

This.

I'm sure you could Google this problem.
Award for boring post.

And yet you still took the time to click it and read it...

I'm guessing you're a cat owner.

NewMum0305 · 20/09/2022 16:31

Motion sensor cat alarm - we got ours off Amazon and worked a treat

Okbye · 20/09/2022 16:33

I feel your pain OP.
I HATE cats because they're pests that are just left to roam around and shit everywhere and 'no one can do anything about it'.

I actually very recently said to my husband that the next time our next door neighbours cats shit in the garden I'm going to throw the shit back over their fence. Then if the little cunt does it again I'll post the the shit through their letterbox.

BettyOBarley · 20/09/2022 16:33

We have the same problem OP, neighbours two cats come and shit right in the middle of our lawn and DS then runs right through it and trails it in the house - fucking disgusting.
I'd like to give you a solution but none of them worked for us. However, I've not seen them for a while so fingers crossed they're ruining their own garden (but probably someone else's tbh).
The only thing I did was chase them off every single time and throw water at them. Not sure if it actually did anything or they just moved on...
