Walking or cycling most days, even just as part of the school run

DenholmElliot1 · 20/09/2022 09:21

Doing occasional art workshops and joining a community allotment group.

It's very very easy to get stuck in the habit of sitting g on the sofa scrolling on your phone. You really do have to get out there.

Towcester · 20/09/2022 09:27

Plus one for cycling

TheHoundsOfHell · 20/09/2022 09:27

Going for walks daily
Getting into some good tv (The Capture at the moment)
Booking some days out. (I've booked a day out with a friend, family event in October and Christmas markets with friends late November, Christmas events with kids in December)
Reading a good book
Eating well

Volunteer? Local projects like community gardens, foodbanks. Reading with children in school. My life is different now because I’m retired, but I go to the pool regularly, and have been a volunteer in a variety of settings before I retired as wellas now. Just walking in a local park can lift my spirits!

Happygirl79 · 20/09/2022 09:30

Walking every day no matter how bad the weather is. I listen to my favourite music on Spotify
It certainly lifts my mood and improves my health too

AIBU123456789 · 20/09/2022 09:33

Walking, jogging, yoga. Arts and crafts - I like to try different things but not an expert in any of them, currently trying my hand at lino cutting

Emilizz34 · 20/09/2022 09:36

This was me until one month ago . No energy or motivation to do anything . I’ve started going on a 30 min walk every day. I found the first week an effort to bother but have kept it up and now I’m speedwalking . It’s made such a difference to my energy levels and motivation .
I now have the energy for all the other things that I was putting off.
I never believed people who said that walking had that effect

creamwitheverything · 20/09/2022 09:39

Turn off the tv,put the phone down and ditch social media, The bombardment of stuff constantly is very draining, damaging mentally and frankly boring! Put on some music, have a dance while you do chores and i promise you you will feel uplifted instantly!
Do a bucket list, anything at all be it big or small.Plan something you can do like a task daily and complete it,this could be tiny like cleaning out the junk drawer or painting a room anything at all and you wil feel so good when you have completed it. Read a book, have a long soak in a hot bath literally anything!
Plan ahead, plan something lovely to look forward to,a meal out,a trip or visit somewhere. It will give you something to carry you through counting down.
We have had years of bad news and struggle and its wearing.I limit myself to 10 mins tv a day news wise catch up what I need to be aware of and then thats it,We are all frazzled and bad news out we need a break ,its not going to happen so we need to take control of our own mental health and act,

Following. I’m so fed up and tired of my problems. No matter how much good attitude I throw at them, they never seem to change, and it takes so much effort to keep chipping away at them. I do try to stay positive, but it’s such hard work. Like that chap who had to push a rock up the hill everyday. That’s how I feel! Logically, I do know I will get there eventually, but I don’t really believe it anymore, so it’s not very helpful.

cheninblanc · 20/09/2022 10:19

A walk every day no matter what and having a 30 minute clean every evening of putting stuff away.

freakydeaky · 20/09/2022 10:29

20 minutes of morning sunlight (more if you can) without sunglasses, actually outdoors, walking if possible. Apparently the sun’s rays before midday are great for waking us up and increasing melatonin production which helps with a better nights sleep. Win-win!

MatildaTheCat · 20/09/2022 10:59

Book things up to put in your diary so you always have things to look forward to.
Make an active effort to see your friends regularly and remember the stuff they tell you to strengthen the bond.

Outofdepthmum · 20/09/2022 11:01

Got a (tiny) dog. Little walk most days with him but not the end of the world if we don’t.

onky planning ahead by 2 tasks and then focussing on those and nothing else has stopped me feeling overloaded.

Zippedydoo123 · 20/09/2022 11:01

Walking every day. Ideally an hour.

Unfollow many people on facebook.Saves hours of time lost.

Hollyhead · 20/09/2022 11:02

These are the changes which have been most positive for me

I exercise for 30 mins every day without fail, it’s transformed my life. Some days it’s just a walk, or you tube yoga/Hitt/weights.

I also read for 20 mins before bed.

ive also virtually given up alcohol, drink 1 glass of wine a week.

Movingsoon21 · 20/09/2022 11:05

30 mins of yoga every morning when I wake up. Just follow a YouTube video and do it in my living room. makes me feel energised and calm and ready to take on the day!

Blackbirdblue30 · 20/09/2022 11:06

I bought a yoga membership. It's something to go and do for an hour in the evening and it's got my pre-lockdowns core strength back. Never ever reading the news or anything negative at home ( I have to in work). Planning things to do and arranging them so weekends aren't voids.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 20/09/2022 11:10

Took singing lessons and then a year later joined a choir. It's 3 years since my first singing lesson and it's life changing the way it has made me feel.

jelly79 · 20/09/2022 11:11

Exercise most days
Planning my time and making sure there is a balance and time to myself
Reduce / stop drinking alcohol

Stressofherregard · 20/09/2022 11:11

After my sister nagging me for several years I joined the local leisure centre and started swimming most days with pilates once a week. It's transformed me. Better skin and eyes, and I feel comfortable in my body for the first time in ages. Highly recommended.

HandbagsnGladrags · 20/09/2022 11:21

Daily walks
Swimming
Playing with my dog
Nice candles

Neverendingmindfuck · 20/09/2022 11:30

Houseplants.
I'm going through some shit and home feels safe at the moment. So I've become slightly addicted to houseplants 😊
Having never in my life been green fingered I am enjoying the discovery of what each plant needs and chatting to them (I don't need the van just yet)

C1239 · 20/09/2022 11:31

Thank you for your replies everyone, I think I need to make a list of some things I want to put into action!

Agree with everyone else on walking and planning something nice at weekends. I would add stretching and reducing coffee intake to just one or two cups a day, but making sure they are good and really relishing them. Getting rid of Facebook entirely is another thing that has made me infinitely happier.
