Am I the only one who thinks that the sight of the queens hearse covered in tatty thrown flowers looks so awful and disrespectful.

Me too. How many times are they going to rewatch it?? And if they’re desperate to, just watch it on iPlayer ffs. It’s just for the saddo’s who are desperate to put it on FB and say ‘look at me, look at me. I was there, I was the saddest’ 🤔

Fancy getting up early and making your way to London just to risk actually missing the moment as you jostle to try and get a few fuzzy seconds of a car going past rather than watching with your own eyes and taking in the atmosphere. I feel the same way about people filming during concerts, especially those holding the phone in front of my face blocking my view.

I'm baffled as to why the crowd is cheering and clapping when she passes in some places.

Agreed! I found this very distasteful!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 19/09/2022 16:25

I think holding a phone up is the only way lots of the crowd will see anything at all!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 19/09/2022 16:25

I really like the throwing of flowers.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 19/09/2022 16:27

throwing a single flower is fair enough if it’s tradition, it’s the shouting “whooooo” as she goes past that’s disrespectful.

Beelezebub · 19/09/2022 16:33

I find the whooping and cheering far more distasteful

I suppose it's showing appreciation but I wouldn't do it .

SofiaSoFar · 19/09/2022 16:34

@Dollydea

It's tradition to throw a single flower, traditionally a carnation...

It's not and never has been tradition to throw flowers at a hearse. A single flower onto the coffin at the interring, perhaps.

And with regard to the Queen's funeral, spectators have been specifically asked not to throw flowers. I suppose for those living this whole thing filming and viewing it through their phone screens it will be critical to film themselves throwing flowers though, so they'll carry on regardless.

UWhatNow · 19/09/2022 16:39

Throwing anything at a hearse is disrespectful. It was awful at Diana’s funeral - thank God it wasn’t as bad today but still awful. Not dignified at all - just attention seeking.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 19/09/2022 17:02
Hmm
MistressoftheDarkSide · 19/09/2022 17:08

At my DPs funeral earlier this year at least two people punted their single floral tributes into his grave golf style with their umbrellas. My DP was not a golfer.

I’m pretty resigned to the fact that these days “anything goes” ….. and I’m a curmudgeonly old dinosaur who has to “respect” how “other people grieve”.

What a time to be alive eh? 🙄

diddl · 19/09/2022 17:26

I agree.

I thought the hearse looked a mess when it arrived at Windsor.

I'd have felt like removing the flowers!

Annualleavecancelled · 19/09/2022 17:32

It's a French custom apparently, as is clapping the hearse.

They did it at Lady Di's funeral.

gatehouseoffleet · 19/09/2022 17:35

Not disrespectful, but people were told not to do it, and it was probably a hazard for the outriders.

If everyone who'd thrown flowers or laid them as tributes had planted trees instead we'd have a lot of useful trees in 20 years time! A more useful legacy.

ha ha when I saw the crowds along the Long Walk. all with their phones, I said to DH if they'd said no phones allowed the crowds would have been a tenth of the size! No point being there if you can't show off on social media about it.

CaptainBarbosa · 19/09/2022 17:39

Re the phones, I hope people know from a wide lens view where the camera phone isnt obvious in the hand, genuinely looks like hundreds of people doing the Nazi salute 😂

Right arm, stretched out straight to above head height 😂

Maybe think about that next time before you decide to live your life through a 6" screen 😳

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 19/09/2022 17:43

People were asked not to throw flowers a few times.
Clearly they didn't get the message or felt that the request didn't apply to them.
At one point it looked like someone chucked some shrubbery.

Suzi888 · 19/09/2022 17:43

Notanotherwindow · 19/09/2022 15:55

It's the phones that are pissing me off. It's a funeral for Christ's sake, why are you filming it? Would you want people filming your mother's funeral with their phones? Show some decorum, people.

I thought the flower throwing was beautiful and touching. I thought the hearse looked lovely.

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/09/2022 18:05

Talipesmum · 19/09/2022 15:55

I am not sure it’s the right thing to do to throw flowers at the hearse, but actually I think they look really lovely!

Yes I did too, as she was coming into Windsor especially.

chaiteaforme · 19/09/2022 18:12

It’s the people shouting hip hip hooray as the hearse went past in London who I thought were disrespectful. Who goes to a funeral and shouts that at the coffin and family?

elizaregina · 19/09/2022 18:14

I loved them!

I loved them and thought they looked beautiful, a wild un planned element in a tightly controlled scene.

Sparklingbrook · 19/09/2022 18:15

I thought it made the hearse look messy.

Mummyoflittledragon · 19/09/2022 18:44

I loved the flower throwing and the cheering of the hearse. The crowds didn’t cheer the gun carriage, which was solomn event. They were showing appreciation and wishing the Queen on her way as she left London for the last time. I thought the whole thing was incredibly touching.

Mada1985 · 19/09/2022 18:48

Thought london would be better behaved than Edinburgh seams I was wrong everyone in Edinburgh stood quiet apart from a couple and only a few flowers thrown
