To want to rip my boobs off...

Couldnothappenlater · 16/09/2022 12:38

Posting here for traffic more than anything.
My boobs, or more particularly the skin around them are driving me insane.

There like an intense itch, constantly. I am scratching but it's not doing anything, I feel like I need to take them off and have a good scratch inside.

I've spoke to my GP who said it's just one of those things, take an antihistamine and it'll calm down. Done that, and nothing has changed. It is honestly driving me insane

You are 50
So it would be menopause

Or a fungal infection perhaps

Yellowtulips33 · 16/09/2022 23:40

I had this, was definitely peri menopause in my case, it went away eventually

Couldnothappenlater · 16/09/2022 23:53

Tbh perimenopause is what I'm putting it down to. I've got an appt with my GP on Wednesday, and in the meantime will try every single cream recommended... All at the same time

Don't let anyone hug you too tight, you'll shoot up like a firmly-grasped bar of soap.

TwoBlondes · 17/09/2022 09:06

I'm suffering from the same thing. Changing deodorant has helped a little but it's early days. Is your itching worse at night ?

Couldnothappenlater · 17/09/2022 09:18

@TwoBlondes not really, it's pretty much constant throughout the day and night at the moment. It's driving me absolutely insane, no matter how much I scratch its just not going away. I could honestly cry

Also, not wanting to alarm you but I've just been diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer following my first routine mammogram and have recently had very itchy boobs especially under my arms, which I put down to menopause or thought I'd not change my razor blade or something. I didn't realise it was a symptom until after diagnosis.

Might just be your razor. your deodorant, new wash powder lots of things.

rainbowmilk · 17/09/2022 09:44

I have this. I’m menopausal, and have psoriasis. The only thing that works for me is a cream with steroids in it, unfortunately.

Definitely get it checked out.

Couldnothappenlater · 17/09/2022 11:04

I have an appt on Wednesday at the doctors, and I had a mammogram about 3 months ago or thereabouts. It came back clear, so assume that takes care of cancer worries? X

Is the skin actually sore?

If not, I get a neuropathic itch on my foot. It is the most unpleasant thing, scratching does nothing. I've lightly stabbed it with a knife before. Anyway... I read that pressure helps so now when it starts I tape it up as soon as I can (or when I eventually remember it helps) and it WORKS!

Obviously if the skin is sore this won't help.

If the skin is sore aveeno anti itch is good. I think it's an American version I use.

Couldnothappenlater · 17/09/2022 11:53

I wouldn't say it's sore, maybe just a bit tender from all the scratching and nearly ripping my skin off lol

amylou8 · 17/09/2022 12:21

I had this the summer before last. The only thing that fixed it was hydrocortisone cream. I was more proactive stopping it this year with deodorant and medicated powder.

Try some gentle tape on it? Like the kind you'd use to secure a wound pad. Actually maybe put it over the wound pad. It's worth a try.

While I was googling this and found the pressure solution, I saw a story where a woman had a smiliar itch on her head and scratched all the way through to her brain. I can totally believe it, it's bloody awful!

Couldnothappenlater · 17/09/2022 13:36

I honestly wish I could take my skin/boobs off, give them a damn good scratch, rinse in some nice cold water and stick by on. I know I can't but it's nice thought lol
I've just had a nice cool bath and put some oats on a stocking and laid in that for a while, it was nice and soothing.
I may be living in a bath with some oats for the foreseeable 😂

Again, not trying to freak you out but inflammatory breast cancer (a particularly rare type) doesn’t always show up on mammograms and is particularly fast spreading. Looking back after my diagnosis my boob had been itchy. I’m sure there is a much simpler explanation but a clear mammogram three months ago would not be a guarantee so make sure your doctor is thorough.

SlouchingTowardsBethlehemAgain · 17/09/2022 13:59

I had terrible itching - really affected my quality of life. I was referred to a consultant who said it was an auto immune response and he gave me buckets of steroid cream and said don't be too spare with it. So, even though I know there are risks with steroid cream, I did use it and the itching stopped completely and I stopped using the cream. Since then I have always worn cotton bars and tops.

Could inflammatory BC cause itching on both sides though, or would it just be one breast? I don't know anything about it…

Rowgtfc72 · 17/09/2022 14:10

I quite understand the trying to scratch your boob off. I get this every month two weeks before my period. Just the one boob, no rash or lumps and bumps. Just The Itch. I'm also perimenopausal but reading some of these comments I may take my( currently non itchy) boob to the docs.
Hope all goes OK Wednesday.

Flatandhappy · 18/09/2022 10:19

@ClumpingBambooIsALie I don’t know tbh but it is a cancer that is often missed or misdiagnosed, especially as it doesn’t always show on a mammogram, so my only motivation here is to make the OP aware of it. Obviously I hope there is a much more benign explanation.

ememem84 · 18/09/2022 10:32

Are you anxious/stressed at the moment? When my stress levels get too much to deal with I start itching. Like I want to take my skin off itching.

Onestepforwards2back · 18/09/2022 10:40

I don’t know if it would help but given how you are feeling it might be worth a try. Would cabbage leaves help? The cooling soothing properties are utilised for painful boobs during breastfeeding.

aloris · 16/09/2022 23:18

I have very small breasts and can feel a lump as small as a centimeter in diameter, which pop up for me as benign cysts periodically. However my doctors have told me that most women, because they have more breast tissue, cannot feel a lump until it is at least an inch in diameter.

Now, I'm not a doctor so your mileage may vary. But just because you can't FEEL a lump, does not necessarily mean a lump isn't in there. You have had a sudden, persistent change in an area restricted to the breasts. I think it's worth checking out a little bit more.

My surgeon can't feel mine but is there.

Couldnothappenlater · 18/09/2022 12:05

Thank you all for the comments and helpful suggestions. I will make sure that the GP considers all options when I see her on Wednesday (well I'll try). The cream has arrived from amazon so just slathered that everywhere, so far so good.

Was sat up at 2:00am with boobs in bags of ice to help with the itching, it's taking over my life lol

I just wanted to pick up on your previous post OP about trying all the different creams at the same time. Frustratingly what you really need to do is try one for say a week or so and if it's not helping then move on to the next etc. Because you won't know if something is going to help unless you give it at least a few days go first and using a few different creams in tandem mean some/all of them can't actually work effectively/the way theyre intended and risks none of them working.

Coastalcreeksider · 19/09/2022 09:14

I tried the vaseline tip and I seem to have not had any itching for the last two days. I'm really impressed and am crossing my fingers that this continues to work.
