To not want to suck snot out my child's nose?

My 8 week old has a blocked nose and I've read that lots of people suck the snot out of their babies nose. Tbh, I really don't fancy trying to pin down my baby while trying to suck snot out of her nose! Is there another way or do I have no choice? 😩

It's vile but it works a treat. Suck and spit.
Not for everyone but least worst option if it eases their suffering and you get some sleep.

I don't think anyone really wants to suck snot out of their baby's nose. It is disgusting. But since my baby couldn't breath comfortably, I did it.

If your baby's nose isn't that badly blocked, then crack on.

I never once used one of those things. Totally not necessary at all. You can get children’s olbas oil to get them breathe. I just used to put a little drop on each of their pyjama shoulders so it was close enough to be breathed in but not anywhere they could rub it into their eyes or anything like that. Vapour plugs are also good if they’re really bunged up.

Tickle their nose with cotton wool
and make them sneeze !!

Have a tissue on hand!

I got the snot sucker which does it well but the best thing I found is the saline nasal spray. A squirt or two and then a minute or so later they sneeze and the amount of gunk that comes out is incredible

Make sure you get the child version not the adult version and also keep it up high because the lid is easily undone by a toddler.

People suck their kids snot? That’s grim

Lancrelady80 · 16/09/2022 20:35

Saline spray up the nose, plenty of tissues at the ready.Snufflebabe on chest and feet. Never once needed a snot sucker.

Saline spray; olbas oil (the adult one is actually OK for babies 3 months+ in very small doses). Teach them to blow their noses as early as possible - mine has been able to do it from about 18 months.

I really hate other people's snot. Even my own children's. I would take dealing with the grimmest, most explosive nappy over sucking snot any day.
