But it's out of stock everywhere 😫
The Ninja air fryer dual.

The day we received it I made chips. One tablespoon of oil and they were delicious!
Last night I made jacket potatoes, which stayed warm while I quickly roasted four pork chops, everything was fantastic!
Tonight I'm trying chicken and maybe some healthy muffins, im type 2 diabetic so that's really why I bought it. And of course I can stop using my electric fan oven, you can cook practically everything in it!

If you’re Type 2 you should probably be limiting white potatoes…….

I've been considering buying an airfryer but I only have a small kitchen. Do they create steam/upwards heat? I'm just wondering about how they will operate under a wall cabinet.

GasPanic · 22/09/2022 13:17

@charabang

They do need a bit of space. They vent some hot air. It's hard to say how much space you would need because I guess it would depend on the model. I have mine on an upturned baking tray to protect the work surface it is on atm, but I will get something better soon. I think you would have to look at the instructions for the model you wanted to get their recommendations.

My vent is at the back and I just pull it forward on the worktop when it's in use.

I'm on the waiting list for the Ninja with two drawers. However the Ninja flip looks very interesting too @DriveMeCrazy1974 does it fit a frozen pizza in it I hate the oven on for one. And does it take a small casserole dish to bake in? I think I like this one more.

ohsuzannah · 22/09/2022 15:33

@OverTheHillAndDownTotherSide
Yes, chips are a treat for me , I got a bit overexcited 😂

OP posts:
FlowerArranger · 22/09/2022 15:40

Can you use them for baking? Muffins, cupcakes, scones, banana bread, etc......?

DriveMeCrazy1974 · 23/09/2022 15:26

@MrsCarson - yes, the Ninja Flip is big enough to cook a whole frozen pizza in - in fact, ours gets a lot of use for that very reason. It's great for cooking half cooked baguettes too (on the bake mode) actually cooks them better than our cooker did.
It would depend how big the casserole dish is - we use a small roasting tin in ours to cook things, but a larger casserole dish with a lid might not be so good. Mind you, we have a slow cooker for casseroles, so it's not really an issue for us! I definitely recommend the Flip though, especially for 'easy' food that seems a waste of energy when heating a regular sized oven up to cook it!

I see everyone talking about air fryers but I can't help think it's just another gadget that will take yo counter space and the novelty will wear off quickly??
Also, do you have to cook all your food in grease?!

No... thats the point of the air fryer, that you don't cook everything in grease. 'Air' is your clue there...

People want them as they heat up fast, heat a far smaller space than an oven and as a result, cost much much less to use to cook the same amounts of food (unless you are ramming your oven full every single time you switch it on).

I wanted that one and didn't want to wait, as I suspect the price is going to go up too... so I got the Instant Pot Duo Crisp instead, which combines air fryer and pressure cooker. Absolutely love it, haven't used the oven in a week! Which has probably saved me a tenner.

handslikebirds · 23/09/2022 15:57

Gah this is the exact one I've been waiting to buy but so annoying it's out of stock

handslikebirds · 23/09/2022 16:00

How did you get one off the ninja website? I've had it on alert to tell me when back in stock but never had an alert and it's still showing out of stock 🙁

The word fry literally means to cook in fat/oil. So the marketing is a bit off imo.

It's a powerful, small cooker then?

absolutehush · 23/09/2022 16:15

Is there an air fryer big enough to do a whole chicken in??

Sorry to be dense!

GasPanic · 23/09/2022 16:20

A better name for it would be mini/micro convection oven.

Although you can tell from that mouthful that I don't work in marketing. Maybe they didn't want to call it micro convection oven because people would confuse it with microwave, which it really isn't.

It is just a very small convection oven and because it is small and self contained you can put oil in it much as you would in a roasting tray (if you want too, not absolutely necessary) although adding a bit of oil produces a frying effect so is useful for cooking stuff that doesn't already come with a bit of oil (think making roast potatoes). Generally beige s**t (I love that term) comes with a bit of fat so you don't need the oil but adding a bit can help crisp it up a bit more.

Anything you can do in a convection oven you can do in the same way, provided you can fit it in of course. Stuff like fish which you might want to keep moist and not dry out you can wrap in foil, much the same way you would in a convection oven. Mine does salmon really nicely if you wrap it.

Frazzlerock · 23/09/2022 16:29

It had better get back in stock before Xmas as I'm getting one for DP's birthday/xmas pressie! I looked at it a few weeks ago and forgot about it until now.

Jarstastic · 23/09/2022 16:54

Interesting article in the Spectator a few days ago. Hopefully link will work.

The foodie grill is better and easier to clean imo. Would never go back to a drawer version again.

ohsuzannah · 23/09/2022 18:41

This is the one I got, and a few of the things I've made. I also did a cheese toastie for lunch today, it was very good 😋

Have you not been warned of high carb foods? 😬

laloue · 23/09/2022 19:10

Bought our Ninja Foodi 9 function 5 litre in February . After initially being a bit scared of it (the pressure cooker in particular) I now love it. Oven goes on maybe once a month to do a big batch of stuff to put in soups and salads and a roast (only because the oven is on, otherwise it’s in the Ninja as there’s no “first heat the oven”)It takes a bit of thought and planning if you want to use it as more than an air fryer, but worth the money definitely. We’re only 2 people though,I do wonder how it would work for a bigger family.

handslikebirds · 23/09/2022 20:33

@ohsuzannah have you been bothered by it being single not dual? I was holding out for the dual one but you're making the single one sound amazing!

Did the OP ask you for your advice on their diet? You seem determined to food police when you've no idea how she manages her diabetes!

felly2020 · 24/09/2022 07:06

I’ve just bought mine from kitchenmaster.co.uk

I know several people that have reversed T2 with diet. It’s very well known that cutting carbs is the best way to manage it. Just trying to help in case OP is missing some support.
