For those of us lucky enough to have the day off with our kids, who don't want to watch the funeral. I would love to hear anyone's idea of how to make the most of a bonus day off. In particular if you know of anything fun that's open.

I'd prefer not to spend the day in the local park, have done that enough in the past 2 years. The only thing I've seen that's open so far is Hawksmoor which is a bit fancy for a family day!

We have officially lost the plot. Along with several of my brain cells after reading this.

Exactly.
20/30/40 years time.
’What did we do Mum on the day of Queen Elizabeth’s Funeral? Did we watch it on TV? Tell me what the day was like’
’Went to the swings dear. Because I hated the Queen’
70 years time when the queen has been off the throne as long as she was on it:
’Grandma, I can’t believe you were actually alive when Queen Elizabeth was alive. Wow what did you do on the day of her funeral?’
’We went to the playground my dear. Because my mother hated the Queen’

Dammit. That was in reply to this post 🙄

I respect anyone who wants to mourn anyone else's death.

Shortly after I told my child the Queen had died she said to me but why do the royal family get to be the royal family. Why can't anyone have a chance. Exactly that. I will only personally mourn for people who I have loved and lost. Not those born into privilege who we all have heard about because of their privilege. I don't feel the need for my children to buy into how it all works.

The Queen appeared to do a good job. I have also known others to spend their lives working hard and doing a good job with all that they have. They died and their families are still paying off the debt from their funerals. All humans are equal in my opinion. But, others can do as they please.

My hairdressers will be open and seeing all clients who were already booked for this date.

fizzypop100 · 16/09/2022 15:38

That's where we will be heading (Sheffield)

Benmac · 16/09/2022 15:45

Our local pub is opening. Think it is the only place in town that will be open. I am so grateful to them as I could not bear being stuck in the house with nothing but funeral coverage. Finding it very depressive.

Really? Do you just have terrestrial tv? There will be loads of options of stuff to watch bar a few channels.

I am planning a run, batch cooking, looonnng and walk with the children, a roast and a film. Bliss

The day should be used to watch the Queens funeral. Nothing will/should be open in respect of the late Queen. I would recommend you stay home and watch the funeral and maybe go to the park after.

Utter batshittery! Are you remotely able to critically think for yourself???

stillherenow · 17/09/2022 07:51

I've found a solution, taking the dog to a secure field , traffic will be quiet and the dog needs his exercise !

stillherenow · 17/09/2022 07:51

And dd has her music lesson as usual thankfully

PupInAPram · 17/09/2022 10:09

I missed the Charles Diana thing by going out in a rowboat with my boyfriend. I have no regrets about history passing me by.

PupInAPram · 17/09/2022 10:10

*thing = wedding

fizzypop100 · 18/09/2022 15:23

Anyone in Sheffield? Is there anywhere to get a coffee tomorrow in city centre?

NCFT0922 · 18/09/2022 15:34

@fizzypop100 I am! I think most places are closed but there may be some independent ones open near eccy road. Are you dropping a DC for uni?

Doingprettywellthanks · 18/09/2022 15:44

Prets are opening 🎉

MargeSampson · 18/09/2022 15:45

Restaurants are open late afternoon onwards.

NCFT0922 · 18/09/2022 15:45

Typical; there isn’t one in the city centre anymore!

Doingprettywellthanks · 18/09/2022 15:48

Pizza express from 3pm

Mumofaprince21 · 18/09/2022 19:20

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is wondering what to do tomorrow. Can't believe half of these comments. Really tickle me. The "how dare you think about anything but the Queen" oh dear! The Queens funeral will get coverage for years to come. So even those that are not watching tomorrow will see it at some point.... I love the fact your thinking of your kids. Hope you get to do something fun. Still not sure how we will spend ours but will deffo be outtttttttt.

jimmyhill · 18/09/2022 19:25

The Royal Vault

CherryGenoa · 18/09/2022 19:42

It will be recorded so I will probably watch the highlights the next day. We will planting out our over wintering veg and tidying the garden.

nomoreflyingfucks · 18/09/2022 20:18

I think they covid stay home brigade have become watch the stay home for funeral brigade. Isn't funeral an interesting word 'fun for al'.

Is not answering the OPs question.

BruceHellerAlmighty · 19/09/2022 00:01

There's a bird watching place about an hour's drive from me. I imagine the roads will be quiet. No cafe or guided walks obviously as all the cafe and guide staff are deeply mourning rather than getting the economy on its feet again.

It's the only thing open anywhere within the county as far as I can tell. Will be nice.

gemma19846 · 19/09/2022 09:38

I feel the same. We are both off work and kids are off school, like hell do we want to be sat in watching a morbid funeral all day! Children have only "known" the Queen for a few years not decades like us and very few would want to be forced to watch her funeral (or any funeral) Trampoline parks are open in my area OP so maybe check there :) We will be enjoying time together not depressing our little ones with doom and gloom all day
