To think my GP practice shouldn’t shut next Monday?

I’m not anti-monarchist but was surprised when I got a text from my medical centre saying out of respect for HRH, they will be closed on Monday. Can’t they have a 2 min silence and then see the patients who need them? It’s just going to put strain on OOH and A&E departments.

Eerrrr it's a national bank holiday. You'd expect it to be like any other bank holiday and they be closed

Its not like any other bank holiday - those are known about as they are the same every year. Work would not have been booked in for those. The NHS will really struggle to absorb this bank holiday being thrown at them short notice.

All that needed to happen is reschedule appointments between 11 and 12 and watch the funeral. No need to close for the entire day

But it’s a bank holiday. What don’t you get?

But it didn't need to be a bank holiday. What don't you get?

Ha ha, yeah l agree it doesn’t need to be a bank holiday. But it is. So places close.

Ive just had my hospital appt cancelled. But it is what it is🤷🏼‍♀️I don’t even support the monarchy. But bank holidays mean on the whole people don’t go to work.

I work in general practice but not on a Monday. Toying with bringing up with my manager that all non-Monday workers should now be owed extra hours leave pro rata in lieu of this.

You should get that anyway - read your contract.

Sadly I'm having to work. I don't want to - I want to be at home with my family watching the funeral but I can't

So you want people to work the most historic day since Churchills funeral

Loads of us sadly HAVE to work and cannot get the day off

The NHS and GP surgeries did not make the decision on whether it was a bank holiday
