Not really an AIBU but currently visiting family in Horsham and today I went for wander around the town centre.

Stunning, model like women everywhere - slim, tall, blonde and tanned, expensive looking clothes, well applied make up.

I felt so out of place in as an overweight person in my jeans, t-shirt and trainers. Even got a pitying look from the partner of one of the above mentioned women.

Lots of expensive looking shops as well.

Horsham seems a very posh place to live!

I lived in Horsham for seven years until 1995 and it was an exceptionally dull place. Had to travel to Brighton or Guildford to even buy jeans ! We moved to Guildford which suited us better as 30 somethings commuting into London. Horsham has expanded hugely and I heard someone talking about the Everyman Cinema so perhaps it's a bit better.

NC'd Blush

From Crawley, lived there from 1997 (when I was born) until I was 19. It was really fun to grow up in, lots to do and I lived in one of the 'nicer' areas (not Pound Hill nice though Wink). I went to the Catholic school there and it was nice. However, it did have a high crime rate which my friends that still live there tell me is a lot worse now. Most people I know that still live there wish that they didn't. I was sad to leave it at the time but glad in hindsight.

Me too since birth 1965 - now, also Pound Hill, I am guessing you went to St Wilfreds or Holy Trinity, I remember my dad talking to my mum about me going there but went to Hazelwick instead. The ones to watch were Thomas Bennett, we were all scared of them, although my DSIS married someone who went there and he is lovely, shes moved to Seaford now though. Just me and my DD left in Pound Hill now, she is likely yo move out next year too, my DS have both moved to Redhill and Salfords.

@welliam you are only a couple of years younger than my DD, be odd if you know her, as from Pound Hill too, My DSs were born in 1989, and 1993 and my DD in 1995

Not all of Crawley is scummy, this a house in my old road on sale for 740 000

@Jenasaurus and thats how you denote “not scummy”…?!!

that figure would buy you a house in the slightly scummy area in Surrey adjoining ours … it’s not a king’s ransom in SE house price terms?

Jenasaurus · 01/01/2023 22:10

best not show you my 2 bed scummy maisonette then!

As a former resident of both Horsham and Crawley and having family in ‘LA’; I’d choose Littlehampton every time now.

I lived in Horsham for twenty years, before it expanded. It was a beautiful market town; it’s now overblown and shabby.

And Pound Hill is not posh. No part of Crawley is - huge apologies to those of you under that illusion 😂

No-one said Crawley is scummy! There's good and bad parts of Crawley and Horsham.
