To be fed up of no actual news!

I am so fed up with the so-called news being full of non-pieces about the Queen's death and Charles as King. I know there will be some coverage, but there is so much we are hardly getting any other news.

It is hardly as if there is little news around. One-third of Pakistan has been flooded with devastating consequences, very little coverage. Russia has been bombing the nuclear power station in Ukraine. I think Russia now ceased control. Is it safe? What are the consequences?

And there will be lots more happening that I know nothing about. Why should virtually all the news continue to be dominated by the death of a 96-year-old woman? It is totally ridiculous and way over the top.

Loving the BBC coverage actually.
loads of places you can see other news if you look.

This is a very unique and special time for the UK why want other stuff in the way for a few days.

you can get all the other news you like even on freeview!

lookeelikee · 12/09/2022 12:10

Watch Aljazeera

Justcallmebebes · 12/09/2022 12:12

I've found the coverage on the BBC riveting and have been glued to it a lot of the weekend.

Our Sovereign has just died and millions are interested and it's wholly appropriate that the majority of coverage is given over to events surrounding the death and the proclamation of the new King

Darkstar4855 · 12/09/2022 12:14

Fed up WITH!

antelopevalley · 12/09/2022 12:17

Good point about Aljazeera, I had forgotten about them. Will ignore BBC.
And how the hell can you find BBC news riveting at the moment. They are finding things to say as so-called news. Loads of coverage of the transporting of her body to Edinburgh and all the places it passed through. Fine if you are watching a programme about the Queen, but five minutes about a coffin travelling is not news by any stretch of the imagination.

Even die hard royalists have to be fed up by now

Watch Aljazeera

Nothing wrong with Aljazeera, it's a respected news channel. Which I'm sure is why you suggested it, right?

antelopevalley · 12/09/2022 12:21

@SleeplessInEngland what are you implying?

Worriedaboutethics · 12/09/2022 12:25

@antelopevalley

i am finding it interesting seeing the history and giving me time to reflect on the loss of my two parents and those gone from Covid.

i worry it angers you so much when there are many other options that you have admitted already you have forgot about.

Royalist or not, the queen was an amazing woman and we are lucky in the UK to have the set up we have.

Worriedaboutethics · 12/09/2022 12:25

@Justcallmebebes

exactly well said

CapMarvel · 12/09/2022 12:27

Just avoid the BBC coverage, which is indeed ridiculously over the top to the point of being nauseating.

BobbysGirly · 12/09/2022 12:28

There are more TV channels than BBC. Just select another channel?

Blossomtoes · 12/09/2022 12:29

There’s never been a time when access to a wide range of news sources has been so readily available. Use one of those.

midsomermurderess · 12/09/2022 12:30

I'd also suggest Al Jazeera. You want 'proper' news, yet seem curiously in need of spoon-feeding.

antelopevalley · 12/09/2022 12:33

I have looked at Al Jazeera now thanks. Great to read some proper news.

@CapMarvel Agreed the BBC news has been ridiculous.

I normally get my news from BBC news and an online newspaper. Both have just been full of the Queen and Charles.
You might all be used to accessing other sources, I am not. I had forgotten about the existence of Al Jazeera, so thanks for the reminder.

@Worriedaboutethics I lost both my parents at a fairly young age for them in a car crash. The coverage of the death of a 96 year old woman does zero to help me reflect on my parents.

Yep

Just watched their lunchtime news, items on Imran Khan's problems in Pakistan, negotiations between Ethiopian government and Tirug rebels, Swedish elections and the current war in Ukraine.

The fawning coverage across all mainstream channels has turned into bingo now with points for 'nations grandmother', 'service' and 'duty'. No mention of paying hush money to sexual assault victims on behalf of her son though.

nachoavocado · 12/09/2022 12:38

You are on the Internet - try having a Google and seeing if you can find the other news

Thanks. I have to add the app to my smart TV. Just have to figure out how to do that!
I had wondered what had been happening with the Tigray war. Glad negotiations are happening.
Will be good to get actual news again.

No need to be nasty. Just a google tells me little outside the Queen and the King. I have tried.

We have sky q - so news channels include France 24, Euro news, an Indian news channel I can't remember name of but do like, CNN, Al Jazeera, and a couple of African news channels.

I'm skipping between them and ITV and Sky and BBC.

antelopevalley · 12/09/2022 12:46

What are the names of the African news channels? And can I get them on an ordinary Smart TV? I only have Netflix, nothing else.

Penguinfeather781 · 12/09/2022 12:55

The BBC have just had a news section on Ukraine. Much of the news is usually politics and there’s not much of that happening at the moment.

Personally I find the following of cars (I don’t mean the hearse yesterday, more “here’s the King going to the airport”), planes etc slightly absurd and would be happy for them to just cover actual events. The pontificating by random members of the public, interviews with everyone who’s got any kind of public role, Nicholas Witchell going on and on etc is not necessary. But it’ll be over by next Tuesday and probably won’t happen again - I cannot see this level of national interest and affection being shown to Charles, however good a King he turns out to be.

MercurialMonday · 12/09/2022 12:55

I can't remember the names just where they are for us - may be part of sky q package.

However quick google -
