AIBU to think that if you want a big family party, and you live in a semi detached property, you hire a hall rather than subjecting your neighbours to hours of ear splitting kid’s screeching?

I am sorry OP - I think YABU as it does sound like a one off.

People are allowed to live their lives - cut them some slack on this occasion

Sorry

YABU and also a terrible curmudgeon. One off daytime party is fine, children are bound to be noisy at a party.

YABU to expect you'll never hear your neighbours having perfectly normal celebrations for their children's birthdays if you choose to live in a semi D.

These days you can also buy noise canceling headphones.

If you want to relax in your home after a long, stressful week, 52 weeks a year, then maybe Semi life in the burbs wasn't the best choice for you.

Yes, yabu.

It would be very annoying but I am assuming it is a one-off? You can't expect people to hire a hall for a party when they have their own house, everything cost a fortune at the moment and halls always cost hundreds to hire.

That said I shouldn't let the kids be feral I suspect your neighbours are the problem not the party

YABU

I've been to parties like this and the neighbours are always invited. The fact you weren't says a lot.
