How to be more “prestige”

yumyumchocobun · 11/09/2022 15:57

The title says it all, how can I become “prestige”. If you can think of someone prestigious , how would you describe them?

Then exactly, what is prestige? Is it someone well spoken? someone with money? is it looks? Is it etiquette? Is it a combination of all? If you know someone that you’d think of as “prestige” or “high status” or “high value” what are their key attributes?

NippyWoowoo · 11/09/2022 16:22

Why do you care?

VictoriaConcordiaCrescit · 11/09/2022 16:22

You want to become a car, a Rolls Royce maybe?

Gretchen, stop trying to make prestige happen, it's not going to happen.

Not dismissing people as mardy menopausal lard-arses is a start.

By being the very opposite of your comment 🙄

picklemewalnuts · 11/09/2022 16:25

Prestige is something conferred by others. It's not something you can have.

It's in others attitudes, not your own.
It's unusual to use it with reference to an individual.

Can you give an example? It may make it easier for people to help.

David Attenborough is prestigious. It would be an honour to be associated with him, it would mend me prestige. I wouldn't become prestigious- it would be reflected glory.

Dictionary definition explains it perfectly

noun. Britannica Dictionary definition of PRESTIGE.

the respect and admiration that someone or something gets for being successful or important. e.g. Her career as a diplomat has brought her enormous prestige.

the things you have included certainly add to it, IMHO.

This is a fair point

SpoonyMcFace · 11/09/2022 16:25

I'd say skill is important. Being valued because you are really very good at something whether it be your career or a a leisure activity.

Class is feeling comfortable in almost any situation as well as being able to put people at their ease. I think that comes with being exposed to a lot of different things and being in all sorts of situations. EG You meet someone from Sienna, you have something to talk about because you've been there. You don't have to stand there agape scratching round for something to say.

Based on this and your previous thread, you’ve got a very long way to go. So far that you might never get there in your lifetime.

LOL.

OP prestige is not the same as status or class. Status and class are socioeconomic markers which (up to a point) you can adopt or copy.

Prestige is not simply socioeconomic window dressing, such as driving the right car or speaking with the correct accent.

Prestige is something you earn due to an accomplishment (scientific or musical for example). You can’t wing it.

And in the nicest way possible if you can’t tell the difference I suggest weighing into people who point this out by calling them “fat” with increase neither your prestige nor your status.

Prestige is a range of not so great saucepans hth.

My mum met my dad at the Prestige factory. They have been married nearly 60 years and still have some pans they got as a wedding present so I will not hear a word against Prestige cookware thank you

Honey if you can't even use google I doubt anyone will consider you 'prestige' in your lifetime

The term has a definition

Maybe understand what it is before asking how you can be it

JaneJeffer · 11/09/2022 16:29

I can give you all the help you need to be prestige for a one time special offer of €1,500. Package includes a special module on how to avoid insulting the people you are asking for help. Terms and Conditions may vary.

O11 · 11/09/2022 16:29

Probably by becoming eminent in a particular field and winning awards or writing books.

Somehow OP I just can't see it happening for you.

Well that comment definitely wouldn’t be said by someone who had prestige, class and elegance. Why the insult?
