I've seen several now, I understand some will like them but I just feel it's all a bit OTT!
Here is the latest one I've seen...

I prefer Wordsworth.

crosbystillsandmash · 11/09/2022 13:13

I'm cringing so much at the moment generally.
I can't believe that people are wailing about someone they didn't bloody know.
I overheard someone at work saying they 'felt lost as the queen was her one constant in life'
So sad really, I have so many things in my life that are a 'constant' I'd never describe a total stranger that way.
The whole affair is becoming grim.

OneFrenchEgg · 11/09/2022 13:15

I was very lucky to have an enthusiastic English teacher and then to study literature (incl poetry modules). This is my favourite poem about death, really resonates as my father died young although I suppose also relevant to the Queen losing her father.

@Ahf22

Hardly racist when it's descriptive.

I've never seen a fellow black woman partake in this misery olympics currently being played out.

It's a bit WI

Just because you haven’t seen it doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.

also your whole tone is deeply unpleasant and offensive to women and to older women, easy target I suppose plus I expect you think it’s alright to be racist about white people

Suedomin · 11/09/2022 13:18

I am finding the over the top mass mourning very odd and unhealthy.

TroysMammy · 11/09/2022 13:19

@pickledpotato thanks for the nasty stereotype.

Most of these verses, can't call them poems, are usually found in a greetings card. That is one of the reasons I make my own cards. For example "Happy Birthday" on the inside is sufficient.

RampantIvy · 11/09/2022 13:20

I just scroll past them. I really dislike poetry so I just don't read it.

Sparklybutold · 11/09/2022 13:21

Everything is over the top

StopStartStop · 11/09/2022 13:22

To find all the poems about the Queen, too much?

Don't read them. I'm applying that tactic and it's working for me.

@Suedomin
Were you around when former Princess of Wales (Diana, urgh) died? Now that was over the top...

The entire of tik tok is filled with videos of generation z’s “black and brown” mothers and grandmothers displaying a lot of grief. Maybe these women aren’t your right kind of black woman.

No worries there @RampantIvy. This isn’t poetry 😂

Becute · 11/09/2022 13:29

And I'm guessing you could write a better one?

OneFrenchEgg · 11/09/2022 13:33

Becute · 11/09/2022 13:29

And I'm guessing you could write a better one?

Well I just wrote a fab and kind limerick and thought best not. I'm sure with five minutes and a pen I could do her justice.

ChagSameachDoreen · 11/09/2022 13:34

We've become an absolute simpering mess of a nation. These poems are utter rot. I'm embarrassed.

Breakfastisjustporridge · 11/09/2022 13:38

These threads just come across as really snobby. Is there an official mumsnet approved poem that is ok to like, maybe a guide detailing how upset we are allowed to be.

FetlocksBlowingInTheWind · 11/09/2022 13:39

Yeah they are truly awful. Hideous and cringy. But some people love that stuff and for them it captures the current mood 🤷🏻‍♀️

Better to have an outlet (that you've chosen to come to) rather then post catty comments on the mass mourning threads? I for one am really pleased to see I'm not alone in being bewildered by all the ongoing grief being shared.

I agree. And that awful one in particular which is full of punctuation and spelling mistakes. 'Phillip' not 'Philip', 'King's and Queen's' instead of 'Kings and Queens' and 'Monarch's' instead of 'Monarchs'. If you're going to write a poem, check your spelling and grammar fgs!

That was truly impressive. If I remember correctly, the only time that there should have been a possessive apostrophe it was missing. Probably used them all up already.

OneFrenchEgg · 11/09/2022 13:43

I like that one.

Thank you, I don't think it's very well known. I was very ill when they went to see the Liverpool poets and my amazing teacher got me a signed copy. I have this one down for my funeral.

BestCatMumEver · 11/09/2022 13:45

They are terrible, no doubt about it.

TheKeatingFive · 11/09/2022 13:49

They are awful.

I expect we'll get a proper one from Simon Armitage though.

ShirleyPhallus · 11/09/2022 13:49

Luredbyapomegranate · 11/09/2022 13:10

@ShirleyPhallus

You didn’t realise you hate poetry from stuff like this. This is just shite.

It’s like seeing someone’s granny’s insipid watercolour and saying you hate art.

I and not saying people shouldn’t paint and right poems by the way, it’s a nice thing to do, just that most amateur efforts aren’t designed for public consumption

Lol. No, this poetry wasn’t the thing that tipped me over the edge and made me declare a hatred of all poetry. I just meant, I hate all poetry.

I don’t get any enjoyment from it, fail to be drawn in by any kind of storyline or meaning. I hate the way it’s always performed which is with a faux sincere look, heavy pauses, intense eye contact, stage school chuckles and an all-round over performance.

Spikeyball · 11/09/2022 13:49

That is not as bad as the one that mentions Paddington's little phone and Facebook.

Boxowine · 11/09/2022 13:50

How about haiku instead:

Let the nation mourn
Double rainbows in the sky
As the crown is passed
