I understand that the main stream news will be mainly about the Queen's death but surely they could at wmast have some time reporting on other items.

Something major happening in Ukraine, the energy crisis, Olivia the girl who was shot it Liverpool as gone fromthe headlines. There was a missing child todayand Scotland also no coverage of Chris Kaba death.

It's crazy.

Many don't and that's my issue. Lots will be missed.

Frankly that.is.a.problem.of the many others really can't do much about. If they don't want other news, they don't.want other news.
There will alsays be people who are not interested in something and will choose news sources based on that.

Bubblebubblebah · 10/09/2022 23:24

Dang it

I found it much worse when they covered Covid ad nauseam for at least 18 months.

porkmarkets · 10/09/2022 23:34

The news is so relentlessly depressing that I'm quite glad to have a bit of respite from it.

earsup · 10/09/2022 23:36

I only glance at news and papers....some of the rubbish is just awful....the story about the clouds looking like the queen etc....someone who knows someone who knows someone who lived next door to someone who met the queen etc etc....just waiting for paul burrell the slime to pop up....

All of which were discussed on various news programmes today.

Rapidtango · 10/09/2022 23:41

Earsup, weirdly, after my DDad died, I saw his face in a cloud. I'm the least woo person on the planet. It was incredibly comforting. I've never told a soul in real life because I'm sure they'd think I was nuts.

Harriet0101 · 10/09/2022 23:47

Ukraine has just been on the news now. So YABU. She has only been dead 2 days.

The visual channels do not have much else on for hours and hours.

It seems the cost of living crisis isn't being discussed much at the moment.

Higher energy bills and DDs will be coming very soon.
Businesses only get support for a few months.

Sparklingbrook · 11/09/2022 10:07

This is the ideal time to catch up on shows people have been raving about but you’ve never seen.

PinkiOcelot · 11/09/2022 10:09

Sparklingbrook · 10/09/2022 22:36

I have heard about the missing child in Dunbar, and have found other news on various sites.

Exactly! You’ve found other news!! We shouldn’t have to go looking. It should be reported as usual.

YADNBU OP!

YADNBU OP!

I don’t mind looking for it I don’t need it to be on my homepage or I’ll not see it. 🤷‍♀️

Oh God... It was horrendous. the constant news and being stuck at home feeling compelled to watch it because there was nothing else to do... (I know that was my choice but it was simply everywhere!)

It was the same with Princess Dianas death, but now we have the internet and can read other news. (And I know I could say the same about Covid - but that was something else!).

But, I do agree with you, if you aren't interested in the monarchy then it's annoying. Maybe in the future we can preference our life's more... I would never hear another football result again! That would be lovely.

Actually I take that back - A world where we all got to decide everything would be so much worse - Look at how personalising Social Media has got us.

I have a hangover and I am strangely compelled to talk nonsense. Apologies!

Well... actually the amount of nonsense I read on mumsnet I probably fit right in!

Awrite · 11/09/2022 10:21

Posters on this thread are being deliberately obtuse.

I know what you mean op. Also, the enforced deferential and sad tone is really getting on my nerves.

Yes, we know how to find news other than the Queen's death and Charles' ascension, it would just be preferable not to have to go looking for it.

Rapidtango · 11/09/2022 10:37

So you never look at any news story that is not presented to you at the top of a news service homepage or mentioned in the first 15 minutes of news coverage?

The protocol for the BBC on the death of the Head of State has been set for decades. It is an event of significant importance, historical and otherwise. There are plenty of ways of finding alternative news and entertainment.

Imagine if you'd been living in the seventies, with 3 TV channels - you may just have had a legitimate complaint. Today, not so much.

Ahhbiscuits · 11/09/2022 11:01

Chris Kaba is not getting anywhere near as much news time as should be happening. His poor poor parents, lost their son and he is not the name on everyone’s lips at the moment.
I understand the importance for a lot of people that the Queen has died, but this was a 24 year old that was killed for absolutely no reason. I have not stopped thinking about this for days, it is devastating.

NCHammer2022 · 11/09/2022 11:02

I saw coverage of all the things you’ve listed on the 10pm news last night. So the main BBC news programme, not exactly tucked away somewhere.

BeanieTeen · 11/09/2022 11:10

That’s the British media for you though, this is just a slightly more extreme version of what they always do - hone in on one news item to go on and on and on about it and drag out every tiny bit of inconsequential detail and drama. It’s just lazy journalism. News item is reported, cut to video footage of what’s been happening, cut back to the studio to conduct a pointless discussion with someone about what’s happening for 20 minutes where they basically just repeat what was in the news report. As if we as viewers can’t take in more than 2 or 3 news items a day.

cakeorwine · 11/09/2022 11:12

I haven't watched the news for several days - as it's been dominated by the Queen - I guess the 'other' news comes at the end.

Even the Guardian has half its website talking about it. And if you look at the DM website, it's full of the Queen. Of course, it's also Meghan and Harry as well now.

News is there. But you have to scroll down.

Cornettoninja · 11/09/2022 11:12

It’s not quite as simple as that though is it @Ahhbiscuits? A recently released (for possession of firearms offences) criminal openly part of a known gang with strong involvement in county lines was driving a car associated with a recent firearms offence and failed to stop.

whilst I don’t believe the police should act as executioners I understand the balance of risk individuals can present. Armed police aren’t deployed easily.

Re: the news; the group of people who are least likely to seek out news are the same people who are happy enough being fed whatever headlines top the day. If you want information it’s really not that hard to find in any medium. I have to conclude that those who don’t just aren’t interested and that’s their prerogative.

HeddaGarbled · 11/09/2022 11:17

Actually I take that back - A world where we all got to decide everything would be so much worse - Look at how personalising Social Media has got us

Absolutely - look at US news channels: politically polarised so you need never watch anything that jolts you out of your own echo chamber. It’s dangerous.

LakieLady · 11/09/2022 11:28

Chris Kaba is not getting anywhere near as much news time as should be happening.

And when he did, one news channel got it very wrong

Sky news apology
