Men can’t look or find anything themselves

Is it only me?!

Dh drives me insane with asking where everything is, if I say I don’t know, he says ‘Well you had it last’ or something…he never just looks for things properly.
I feel like shouting ‘Just fucking look for it!’

Why am I the holder of all
things 😫

DH has few flaws, but one of them is coming home and emptying his pockets onto the kitchen counter where the main food prep is done. I refuse to clear up after him so if I want to prep food, it all gets shoved to one side and then “isn’t where [I] left it”. It gives me the white hot rage sometimes.

SausagePourHomme · 10/09/2022 20:02

it's not being unable to find it so much as not even bothering to try because 'you'll know where it is'. not even so much as glanced around the room before asking.

so you have to stop what you're doing and think about where you last saw their wallet, keys, socks, whatever, and then try to refocus on your own stuff.

it was one of many straws for my marriage

my teenager does the same, but i now say 'if I find it within 1 minute, you owe me a pound'.

Yeh, all those cars just abandoned in the road everywhere.

To be honest, I can't believe you fell for that.

Thesesoundsfallintomymind · 10/09/2022 20:03

@TisnotI YES!! The implication/accusation directed at you without saying it…when they’ve lost it/can’t find it. I sit there feeling almost like I have or nervous I have…it’s bonkers

@HeadacheEarthquake 😊

newjobwhodisperhaps · 10/09/2022 20:07

There's a theory noted in National Geographic that men struggle with close range static items due to hunter gatherer ancestry, and women are better due to the need to discern detailed close range items in gathering. Whereas women were worse at distanced fast moving items on a general basis!

www.nationalgeographic.com/culture/article/120907-men-women-see-differently-science-health-vision-sex

Whether that's true or not, my DH had CSS syndrome (Can't See Sh*t Syndrome) also. Even if it's literally right in front of him. V annoying.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 10/09/2022 20:10

@newjobwhodisperhaps that does (very annoyingly!) make sense.

Did you have to be so reasonable as to find the article? Could it be hidden behind a female only sensing filter?🤣

Your man can’t. Men are not one homogeneous group.

This. Not all men are feckless wastes of space.

Drivebye · 10/09/2022 20:14

'Man looking' is only a thing because it is enabled. My stock answer is 'don't know', DH once said under his breath 'of course you don't'. Nope that's right, I don't know because I don't waste my energy knowing where peoples stuff is, luckily I always know where my stuff is Smile

Sunnyqueen · 10/09/2022 20:14

Some men are like your DH some men are not at all. But I don't think it can be denied that on the whole men are far far worse than women for this.

We have the fruitbowl of doom for this purpose.

after a few Instances of using some,Very Important Paperwork as chopping board, he puts everything into the bowl.

autienotnaughty · 10/09/2022 20:21

I just say "I don't know " to everything

Casual sexism and stereotyping is funny!

Women can't park. It' s funny because it's true!

Um. I can park very well thank you. It's DH who can't!

UrghBlahBlahBleugh · 10/09/2022 19:29

Don't get me started on this. It drives me up the fucking wall!

"You've lived in this house for 5 BASTARD YEARS, you KNOW where the such-&-such lives ffs!!"

What he means is "go fetch me the such-&-such because I'm a lazy twat and an entitled shit who thinks my wife should fetch and carry for me"

This

badbaduncle · 10/09/2022 20:26

having a 'manlook' is a common expression where I live. Men say it, often.

Bestcatmum · 10/09/2022 20:27

When I was married I used to say: No idea.
This went on for 15 years. He never ever twigged that I didn't know where it was and I wasn't going to help him look for it no matter how many times I said it. Ridiculous.

pastypirate · 10/09/2022 20:27

Simply reply 'eyes are good for looking'

JustACupofCoffee · 10/09/2022 20:27

I now say if I look for it and find it you will have to make lunch and dinner all weekend or you have to take our child to visit your parents on your own or you have to clean the fridge or hoover the entire house. You get the picture. Now he doesn't ask me where anything is! Try it! Works a treat! 😃

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 10/09/2022 20:34

Other way round in our relationship.

And sometimes I'll admit I'm just too lazy and cba making any effort as its easier to ask

wb3 · 10/09/2022 20:43

33goingon64 · 10/09/2022 20:25

Um. I can park very well thank you. It's DH who can't!

What's your point?

Bessica · 10/09/2022 20:50

We call it man vision, can't see for bloody looking lol

TheodoreMortlock · 10/09/2022 20:52

DP (we're both women) is terrible at looking for things. She made the huge mistake of sending me the Tom Cardy song about it and now my inevitable response is "have you checked your butthole? ski-bap, ba-dap...." and now she asks me less frequently 😁

The song is here for those who are extremely puerile and who don't have colleagues / children listening nearby

Tabbouleh · 10/09/2022 20:52

You are all lucky. My DH has gone one step further and accused me of moving whatever he is looking for. I am not having it.

Toottooot · 10/09/2022 20:54

Nope - it’s me that canna find things and my husband always kens far they are. 🤷🏻‍♀️

safetyfreak · 10/09/2022 20:55

Total rubbish but if it makes you feel better to to play the .. "my husband so useless hahah" card then good luck.
