We’d bought flights to get there, booked a hotel for 2 nights…yes we can still go to Leeds but we were going to see kaiser Chiefs, Nile rogers, elbow…I was looking forward to it.

we could have had a 2 minute silence, the national anthem. I’m not sure what cancelling it does really? You can show respect in other ways.

Am I being unreasonable?

What I don't understand is smaller events being cancelled "out of respect", such as a local fete near me. Virtue signalling at its worst!

Do you resent other types of virtue signalling as well or only this occasion? Give over, please

Yep, when it's for no other reason other than jumping on the bandwagon and being seen to be "doing the right thing", such as the small local fete and examples in other pps, such as ice skating & bake off. No reason why they can't show respect in other ways without cancelling the whole thing. Glad my fitness class wasn't cancelled this morning. The instructor did say a few words at the beginning about the Queen and some people were wearing black. One member said on Facebook that she wouldn't be attending as too upset. Fine, but no need to cancel for everyone as many of us were happy to attend.

Not enough Police resources. All rest days and annual leave with exception to be cancelled. World leaders flying in, high security required. Mass crowds in London = Terror threat heightened. Potential for public order offences. Police convoys needed. Tubes will require additional security for terror / potential crushing. Just logistics are crazy right now. Resourcing something on this scale with not enough Police as it is.

I agree re just be honest and say why the event has been cancelled - ie resource issues, security etc. Not that it’s out of respect. Lots of things are still going ahead so it’s complete nonsense that excuse.

Look, a rich old woman who lived an extremely pampered and privileged life has died. Show the proper respect by cancelling any and all forms of entertainment, regardless of the cost to ticket holders or businesses. Sometimes we have to make sacrifices for the greater good, the royals don’t, of course, they’re our betters after all.

Agree with it or disagree but the notion that a period of mourning for the death of a monarch is 'new' is factually incorrect.

Shall we give you some suggestions on things to do in Leeds?

If you're thinking you might like Leeds castle, you'll be very disappointed....

(As was I. Bloody stupid name 😡)

I would suggest that you don't go to the Thackray Museum, as it's on the list of things that my DC and I compiled when they were younger ("Places never to go to again")

I quite enjoyed the Thackray Medical museum, but DS hated it.

this may be what we did when previous monarchs have died, but life has changed a lot in the last 70 years. I won’t be able to work as it’s bank holiday & stand to lose £200 now, which I can’t afford to do. I’m fucking furious tbh. The Queen means nothing to me, never has, and now I’m out of pocket.
anyone who thinks that’s disrespectful can please send me the £200 I need to pay for food, fuel & everything else that week. Thanks.

I quite agree!
