To wonder why Irish people love Garth Brooks so much?

He’s currently playing in Dublin (a series of gigs over this weekend and next). Apparently 1 in 14 people on the island of Ireland will attend 1 of his concerts… 1 in 3 in Monaghan and 1 in 5 in Tyrone.

I’ve been living in Ireland for 20 years but haven’t met a fan (that I’m aware of). I find it fascinating that people here are so into him!

SiL (Limerick) is going - they're hiring a coach / minibus as there's 25+ going in her group
I think it's compulsory

Aren't there strong cultural links between the Western/southern US states and Northern Ireland, country music is heavily influenced by Irish/Ulster Scot traditional music.
Which could explain why it's so big in both NI and ROI
I seem to be the only person in my family who can't stand Garth or any country music, the rest are heading to the concert!

He is a great entertainer. Fantastic to watch live.

I don't know if this link will work. Colin Farrell definitely looks too young to be out of school and doing this for a living.

I'd completely forgotten that I went to line dancing classes in Break for the Border! I think Colin Farrell would have done his Leaving Cert in 1994 so the baby face might be deceptive.

My uncle and family will be travelling up from the Midlands for at least one night of Garth. I remember their deep disquiet from the failed last attempt to play Croker.

It's a pity the hotels are costing a fortune for visitors.

Tell me about it! 😂

Where I live every hotel is full to the rafters with ukrainian people so I'm glad to know that it's still possible to get a hotel place in town

Tbh there wasn't much available at all and the hotels with accommodation were extortionate.
The tourist trade has taken a huge financial impact.
My cousin is closing her city centre café she really depends on tourists for an Irish breakfast with all the trimmings.
There is no accommodation for tourists who wanted to visit.

It’s always been difficult to find a hotel room in Dublin when there’s something on!

Difficult yes, no it's closer to impossible.
