To want a travel mug that doesn’t make tea taste awful?

For work I have to have a covered travel mug. Coffee tastes fine in the one I have ( Chilly’s) but tea tastes absolute vile. Why is this? Why can’t it just taste decent??

Anyone got a good recommendation so I can have a very much needed brew throughout the day?

Is the interior of the chilly's one metal or plastic?

They only exist in the land of unicorns.

SierraSapphire · 08/09/2022 10:22

My Contigo one is good too, but I have to have one for coffee and one for tea otherwise the tea tastes of coffee.

HumbleApe · 08/09/2022 10:22

I have a ceramic travel shaped mug with a lid which is just about acceptable for tea. It came from the middle aisle of Aldi or Lidl. Mostly I just drink coffee if it has to be from a travel mug

AryaStarkWolf · 08/09/2022 10:22

I have a metal one and I find that much better than plastic ones

GunsNShips · 08/09/2022 10:24

Do you need it to keep it warm or just need a lid on it? I have a ceramic mug with a rubber lid that is great but gets cold as quickly as a normal one (which is better than my metal which still burns the roof of my mouth hours later 😂

MassiveSalad22 · 08/09/2022 10:24

Polar mug! The only one I’ve tried where tea tastes like tea. Only annoying thing is you can’t close it so always a spill risk.

WelcomeEverythingIsFine · 08/09/2022 10:24

It’s so annoying but I don’t think this product exists!! I’m disappointed every time. Maybe we can invent it. The Taste-Tea Travel Mug.🤣

A glass keep cup might be ok too.

I use contigos for coffee but tea just isn't right in them.

I find my bamboo one acceptable. Ceramic the best but I break those. Plastic tastes yuck (and using it for coffee as well tea also makes tea taste yuck).

MassiveSalad22 · 08/09/2022 10:26

This one! Can’t find online annoyingly as it is really good and seemingly a unicorn!

Also, my work also require a covered mug for moving about the building for H&S reasons (people spill drinks in corridors if moving from canteen back to desk). It’s annoying but as I’m one of the prolific spillers I do get it!

Meant to say, ceramic will only keep it warm if it’s double walled otherwise it’s just like a regular cup as a previous poster said.

I think basically plastic is unusable, and anything heavily insulated means the milk "cooks" in a way that makes it taste funny if you leave it ages. Metal is okay, glass and ceramic best but I can't be trusted with them in a "travel" scenario.

PuppyFeet · 08/09/2022 10:34

I hear you, I have a whole cupboard of ones I’ve tried and failed with. I eventually settled on chilly’s mugs which allow tea to taste of tea., absolute bliss. I used to have a first generation one but due to the lid and the drinking hole it was easily spilt… so when they launched the 2nd generation with the revolving closing lid… I spoiled myself!! It stays hot for ages and it’s quite large so a home made cup of tea can last me ages at work! :)

BellaBoo20 · 08/09/2022 10:37

Costa do a nice ceramic one-no handle, removable rubber insulation with a lid - it's great for tea and I even use mine when I'm at home xx

LowDownn · 08/09/2022 10:39

Maybe I’m ultra sensitive but I agree with you OP. I find anything out of a travel mug or plastic bottle is awful. I have a glass water bottle and a glass keepcup and they taste fine out of those.

choosername1234 · 08/09/2022 10:40

Are you using the same one for tea & coffee? Once coffee has been in there it is tainted forever in my experience

BellaBoo20 · 08/09/2022 10:42

The Costa one I use x

This might sound daft, but if I make mine in a mug, then tip it into the flask, it tastes better...

Rainbowshit · 08/09/2022 10:52

Don't put them in the dishwasher and don't make coffee in them.

Leftleg · 08/09/2022 10:59

I used a ceramic mug with a rubber lid, I think I git it from QD, but there are plenty of ceramic mugs online. It's just the same as a normal mug at home.

Crumblierthanfeta · 08/09/2022 11:03

Sounds random but make your tea in the usual mug and decant it in to the travel mug. You get the correct tea strength and quantity of milk that way.
