It has to be said that life in the UK on low or middle income is much harder than it seemingly is in other western countries of similar wealth. I dont think the Tory party is making this country a nice place to live in at all. But they keep getting voted in.
So if you vote Tory:
Why do you vote for them?
Would you ever change your vote and for what reason?
Do you feel uncomfortable at how Tory policies batter the most vulnerable in our society? For example making it impossible for people to get on the housing ladder, high rents and low tenant protections, no energy bill caps, etc?
NB: I dont want this to turn into a Tory bashing thread. I'd just like to hear how Tory supporters feel about their party.
AIBU?
To ask why people vote Tory?
Tierne · 07/09/2022 14:25
Am I being unreasonable?
AIBUYou have one vote. All votes are anonymous.
swimlyn · 07/09/2022 17:01
They vote Tory because they are Fat Cats, or they are 'wannabe' Fat Cats.
On this thread however, none of them will admit that. It will be “no viable alternative” etc, etc.
It’s been like that for decades now. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose…
The wannabe Fat Cats eventually spot the BS and change their vote, but are soon replaced by the next generation who are swayed into ‘wannabes’ by the lies on the Party Political Broadcasts.

Hysterical at people thinking Labour are left wing. They are the centre party, there isn't a left wing party any more. People who are politically left don't really have a party to represent them now. Unless something changes dramatically over the next 2 years, they won't vote at all, or will vote for a minority left wing party, allowing the tories in once more... You can tell I'm pretty depressed about the whole thing.

I used to be more of a Labour voter. However since Tony Blair Labour have become more and more insufferable. Champagne socialist hypocrites who preach a do as i say not as i do attitude. They do not support the working class, instead they sneer at them and treat them like uneducated, idiots who need to be told how to behave. They label anyone who is concerned about immigration and how quickly the demographics in this country have changed a racist and if you refuse to call someone with a penis a woman then you are a bigot!! Given all that i voted conservative last time, however after witnessing the absolute shower of shit that this government have caused then i shall very likely not bother voting at all next time!
notdaddycool · 07/09/2022 17:03
Interesting, I work for a charity, I hardly want to be a fat cat. But as I said, so much bile on the left, can’t have civilised debate with those they disagree with.

Being a Jewish, rural, disabled single mum working for the LA in child services I think they’re right now, the best option to run the country - not fulfil a pet project or two.
also I’m a massive thick racist who wanted Kemi and actually voted Rishi.
LateSummerLobelia · 07/09/2022 17:06
No @slick. I thought and had faith that Labour was the party of equality, empathy and humanity. I was wrong.
And do not fucking dare to paint me as a racist who hates others until they came for me. Don't you dare. Thank you. I believe in equal rights and workers rights. I believe in a better world for people - all people. I clearly beleive in the rights of refugees and immigrants to find shelter and make their lives anywhere. I believed that Labour believed that. I believe that Corbyn and his mates lifted the rock to show that their veneer of humanity and equality was only that, a veneer.

@LateSummerLobelia
I didn't paint you as a racist. More like misguided. Really a classic Norrice Lea kinda Labour voter who had an identity crisis when Corbyn came on to the scene.
Progressives were always about delegitimising and dehumanising the opposition. They cloak their hate in a veneer of empathy, but it's jealousy and hatred.
There is a good reason Conservatives give far more to charity than progressives. Especially local charity which helps the people rather than grand global gestures.
Conservatives have a strong sense of morality - which isn't to say individuals always live up to their ideals, but on the whole they have morals. Their actions are guided by their morals, by the understanding there's something bigger than themselves and they must strive to uphold a wholesome society.
Whereas with progressives it's about the person wanting to feel good and relevant in themselves, and they aim to achieve this by 'being kind'. But the goal isn't to actually be kind and help out fellow man, but to feel worthy. Progressives' main motivations are selfishness and jealousy.

"KassandraOfSparta name calling does often seem to be a feature of left. They mark themselves out as people not worth listening to."
According to Stewart Lee latest "guardian" rant, it goes
like this:
'Boris Johnson’s “victory tour” is the insane peacock parade of a monster of a man who has ruined everything, trolling the entire country, rubbing the noses of those whose lives he has destroyed in the filth he has wall-spaffed into their faces.
The fact is that Johnson, something of a vile jelly himself if the truth be told, is a massive psychopathic bastard. And if you support him, or voted for him, you must be either evil or ignorant.'
Whoever even dared to vote Tory or God forbid Brexit
for whatever reason can only be one of the two.
Simple.
Take your pick and feel for yourself the gentler
and also the kinder side of politics.
(Personally, I can't vote for any of the available lots.
Voted Labour for years until JC the messiah
entered the stage...)
KassandraOfSparta · 07/09/2022 17:33
I also wonder what the Guardian writer mentioned upthread is hoping to achieve with his wee rant. Does he really think that calling people "evil or ignorant" is going to make them think that they've got it all wrong and that they need to vote a different way? No, he's just stoking up the nastiness and bile in the same way as Angela Raynor did when she was ranting about "Tory Scum".
It's no surprise that there is such a high level of disengagement with politics. You see all these people ranting and being nasty and offensive and insulting and most decent people would just think fuck that, who wants to spend time engaging with that sort of person/speech?
