I've been clearing out some of my children's books on a local whatsapp small community group village yesterday. All books get snapped up, mums turn up to collect and pay.

One mum texts me and says she will come to pick them up the next day. When she arrives she says " I don't have any money on me" (it's eight pounds). Then she mentions the school name that our kids go to.

So split second decision and I had to hand over to her and say you can transfer it to me later.

what a bloody nerve. Well, I will never sell to her again.

Isn't it rude, entitled, and shameless ?

Must be nice being perfect and never ever getting anything wrong or forgetting anything.
Perhaps you could write a book, or start a blog?

And perhaps you could put in a little practice at accepting different people have/are entitled to different opinions?

OP why did you create this thread when you had already been paid?

Am I missing something?🤔

Clever little post. I wonder if it's really about books or about behavior?

You are entitled to have all the biased, based on no evidence, opinions you want, of course. As I am entitled to point out how silly they are.

If it happens again, just ask her if she'd do the same thing in a shop.

Again, OP is not a shop. And you can totally do this in some shops.

Imagine if shops allowed people to 'pop in to collect and settle up later'...

FWIW I agree with you.
I've had it happen too many times when selling on Facebook marketplace etc for it to be a total coincidence.
There are a lot of chancers out there.
If you go to collect something you check your wallet/purse before you go to make sure you have enough m obey to cover it. That's just common sense, you don't open your purse on the doorstep and look like an idiot by discovering you have no cash on you.
Popping in to collect? Why would you expect someone to hand an item over with no assurance that you'd ever be paid?
The reason a LOT of people do this is in the hope of embarrassing a seller into letting the item go for nothing, a reduced price, or in the hope that they will be paid later.
Sometimes it is genuine (I guess) and you are always able to say no, but many people don't like confrontation and some chancers know this and take advantage of it.
Selling for 20 years+ on these sites has shown me this is not a coincidence.

I can't fathom this thread at all.
It IS cheeky to turn up to collect an item with no means to pay for it at time of collection.
Why should a complete stranger trust that you will pay even if you fully intend to?

Good news is she sent her mother in law to come round and pay in the end.

But who goes out and not carries cash ?

Me
always

but if I knew I were picking something up I’d have cash
