It's a Universal, not PG, so I just put it on with popcorn as a treat for the last day of the holiday. But I've Googled it and it says 6+. What do you think?

My 4.5 year old has never watched a film so I have nothing to compare it to!

It's fine. Enjoy!

Soubriquet · 06/09/2022 15:41

It’s fine

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 06/09/2022 15:42

My 3 yo love the dinosaur one. Not sure where they’re getting the 6+ from

10HailMarys · 06/09/2022 15:42

'U' is the official BBFC classification. Whatever Google says is not official.

If the BBFC thinks it's a U, it's OK for any child to watch, with or without an adult present.

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 06/09/2022 15:44

Your next one will be watching it from being able to sit up 🤣

BeALovingFamily · 06/09/2022 15:45

@TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination haha the next one is currently napping!

How have they got to 4.5 and never watched a movie? I can understand not having been to the cinema or something given C19, but never seen a movie?!

Twizbe · 06/09/2022 15:53

It's fine. My two have seen all 5 of them.

BeALovingFamily · 06/09/2022 15:54

I mean they have watched things, but not a full movie (1h+). We have even been to the cinema but it was to watch the Gruffalo, just 30 mins long. And they just watch some cartoons on TV but again they are just 20 mins long.
Is that weird?

it's fine a whole film is a really long time for a little child to concentrate for so its normal that he might not have sat through a whole one yet

Pawpatrolwereonaroll · 06/09/2022 16:06

I think the 6+ just means that’s the age they recommend it for, ie under 6 they might not concentrate as well and follow the plot etc. My just turned 4 year old is fine with most 6+ stuff but is still often keener on stuff aimed at slightly younger children

MasterBeth · 06/09/2022 16:18

If your 4.5 year old hasn't watched a film all the way through yet, they may well not watch this all the way through either.

Never watched a film?

Have you recently escaped a cult op?

JustACupofCoffee · 06/09/2022 21:32

A lot of the Disney movies are 6+. Only really noticed once my little one and I started having Disney days. It's fine. Some cuddles for bits that he considers a bit scary.

Hymnulop · 06/09/2022 21:35

Forget ice age, get them on disney! Fun for adults and kids. My personal favourite is Tangled and Frozen. My 5 year also also LOVES the greatest Showman.

IMustMakeAmends · 06/09/2022 21:35

Yikes, I have a 4.5 year old and she is word perfect with some films 😂

The best place to look is common sense media. They are very thorough and quite conservative I think, so depending on your child's nature you can take your cue from what they say.

Isn't that the one with the brilliant song? OPEN THE DOOR, GET ON THE FLOOR, EVERYBODY DO THE DINSSAUR.
I say they're great for a 4 year old and us parents. The plot will go over their head but the antics are funny.

Creepymanonagoatfarm · 06/09/2022 21:42

We took ds for his second birthday to see the new Lion King. He was so entranced he didn't even eat his popcorn! Now 8 absolutely loves a good film!

I use common sense media too but take the reviews with a pinch of salt, e.g. I won’t be upset about a fart joke or mums drinking wine.

All kids are different, and the most innocuous things can get to them in ways you wouldn't expect. My then 5yo ds1 absolutely hated the Ice Age movies, the Scrat character on the asteroid at the beginning utterly freaked him out and he's hated them ever since! And he also was deeply distressed at Puss In Boots when Humpty Dumpty goes over the wall at the end. He had nightmares for weeks. Whereas ds2 who's autistic would get always get very cross at Tangled when Rapunzel disobeys her mother and leaves the tower! He couldn't handle the not following "the rules".

NovaDeltas · 06/09/2022 22:25

Nothing bad happens in it - there's a very subtle death, though, and some threat. And some kids utterly freak out at threat. Some just end up scared of weird shit like mammoths or fire or something. So you never really know how it'll go. But there's no headshots or f-bombs

Yes. (I may be saying this because it makes me feel guilty for letting DD3 watch Frozen at least once a week)

BuffaloCauliflower · 06/09/2022 22:34

My 22mo watched all of Aladdin today, I’m impressed you’ve made it to 4.5 without them watching a film!

PugInTheHouse · 06/09/2022 22:39

I am shocked that at 4.5 yo they haven't watched a film before. My DSs had watched pretty much all Disney films plus all the Star Wars films by the time they were 3 but we are huge film buffs in this house lol. I found they loved to rewatch certain ones also. Peter Pan was DS1s favourite, he watched it at least once a week. First time we went to Disneyland Paris he wore a Peter Pan costume for the whole 5 days. Weirdly he was scared of the ride.
