To wonder if friend is lying about private jet?

So I’ve never had my friend down to be a liar but I feel like this doesn’t sound true.

She told me the company she works for has their own plane and she travels from London to Glasgow each week.

Shes on a salary below £40K (earns more than me) and I just can’t believe a company would pay private jet prices for someone on that salary . I work for a global company and the private jet is only used by the ceo and executives.

Tell her how fabulous it sounds and you must see pics

Thatboymum · 05/09/2022 00:23

My immediate response would be to say what would she have to gain by telling such a weird lie to a friend

FOJN · 05/09/2022 00:23

Is she cabin crew?

fairlygoodmother · 05/09/2022 00:26

the private jet costs pretty much the same however many people are on it, so if it’s doing the journey and they want her to do the journey, it’s probably cheaper than paying her train fare. So it doesn’t sound completely impossible. Is she a PA to someone high up? If so totally plausible.

Hawkins001 · 05/09/2022 00:26

I guess it depends on the role, e.g. Official cover art historian, unofficially, Cia etc

Hawkins001 · 05/09/2022 00:27

Jp morgan and chase, has their own private aircraft etc

Harlowwolrah · 05/09/2022 00:30

No she’s not a PA.

Ok? She doesn’t work for them.

What sector?

If Fed Ex then quite likely

Hawkins001 · 05/09/2022 00:35

What industry is the company in ?

FirewomanSam · 05/09/2022 00:36

Just flying her, solo? Unlikely.

But seems more plausible if she’s travelling with colleagues, especially someone much more senior.

This happened to me my first job out of uni, I was on 18k. Basically every quarter the C-Suite execs would make the same journey (I did it monthly) & on those occasions I got to fly with them as there was usually a spare seat. The rest of the time I had to get the train 😂

Hardly corrupt, more likely knowledgeable about what they do

PutinSmellsPassItOn · 05/09/2022 01:05

A lot of companies have their own aircraft.....my brother in law isn't on a massive salary but he often flies on company planes to different sites (( We call them fart boxes, I couldn't be paid to go in one of the teeny tiny things )) he definitely isn't lying as we know others who use them as part of their job.

VIPNanny · 05/09/2022 01:10

Definitely possible depending on who she works for and if she is traveling alongside other higher up individuals in her company.

If she says she is flying solo then highly unlikely (though still possible depending on her job).

I wouldn’t dismiss her as a liar until having more details on the nature of her job.

ThePumpkinPatch · 05/09/2022 04:04

The company will be chartering one for multiple employees. The size of private keys (as most people know them anyway) varies quite a bit but they can take 12-15 passengers so it would certainly work out more cost effective to pay £5/10k to charter a private jet than pay air or rail fare (in addition to risk of delays), for 12-15 employees.

I used to work in Aviation and this is very, very common for businesses. Some private jet companies now offer up empty seats on flights, to the general public and depending on the route, it can sometimes work out much cheaper.

Have you seen the prices of some domestic routes these days? I saw a flight from LBA to LHR the other week - £690 one way!

ThePumpkinPatch · 05/09/2022 04:04

*Private Jets, not private keys... 🤦🏼‍♀️
