To wonder what the hell happened to me (medical related)

This morning I got up, normal time about 6am.

Had breakfast (bowl of cereal with milk- normal) about 6.20 on the sofa watching the news. Got up about ten minutes later and had the worst stomach pain I have ever had aside from being in Labour. By the time I got to the kitchen I couldn't stand up straight and the pain felt like it was shooting up my bum into my stomach.

Climbed the stairs on my knees and vision was blurry because pain was a 10/10. Sat on the loo expecting a stomach upset but nothing- just more pain. At this point I'm dripping wet in a cold sweat and considering calling an ambulance. After about 20 minutes and some paracetamol the pain has subsided although it still feels 'tight'- probably a 4/10 pain wise and more in my bum. My stomach is hard and bloated.

Honestly, it's the worst pain I've ever been in (and I've given birth twice with nothing but paracetamol- I'm no wimp!). AIBU to ask what it could be?

YABU for not calling 111 why are you writing long posts on Mumsnet if the pain was a 10 you'd be calling for help

The pain was a 10/10 for about 20 minutes at half 6 this morning. I took paracetamol and it's now a 4/10- I wrote the post over an hour after the awful pain. Wouldn't have crossed my mind to ring 111 but if you read the post I did think about calling an ambulance in the middle of the 10/10 pain.

Constipation? Hopefully you feel better now.

Loocheeyar · 04/09/2022 08:30

Gallbladder ?

MollieTD · 04/09/2022 08:31

I used to get something similar and eventually was told by the doctor it was bowel spasms - it happened occasionally for a couple of years and then never again! Insanely painful, would have me sweating on the floor in the middle of the night, exactly as you described, like I was in for a terrible stomach bug.

Hope it’s a one off for you!

chalkyc2 · 04/09/2022 08:31

The pain I got from gallstones was similar in intensity to your description - with the sweating too - but was higher up my abdomen/chest, with diarrhoea and vomiting. I honestly thought I was having a heart attack the first time it happened.

Prinnny · 04/09/2022 08:32

Sounds very bowel-y. Maybe ibs spasm type pain. As a one off fine but if it becomes recurrent see a GP for investigations.

ExtraOnion · 04/09/2022 08:32

Trapped wind, or biliary colic (gallbladder)

First time I had a gallbladder attack I thought I was dying

Musti · 04/09/2022 08:34

I experienced similar once but it lasted longer and I’m pretty sure it was an early miscarriage.

A quick Google shows that it should be taken seriously so may be with getting checked op www.healthdirect.gov.au/amp/article/what-causes-abdominal-pain

BabyDreamers · 04/09/2022 08:34

Some kind of obstruction? See how you are next time you eat. Fingers crossed you are fine.

Hohofortherobbers · 04/09/2022 08:34

Severe episode of javelin arse? Can't remember correct name, something like proctus fugux I think

Hohofortherobbers · 04/09/2022 08:35

When I've had it you can't do anything to relieve it, just gave to ride it out, catches me in the middle of the night occasionally. More common in perimenopausal women apparently, and around ovulation

Eranzer · 04/09/2022 08:37

Wind? I get extremely painful trapped wind now and again, especially with you saying the bloating and the pain going up your bum, I call them sharp farts.

daretodenim · 04/09/2022 08:37

Sounds like gallbladder attack from the scale and suddenness of the pain.

Apparently it's not uncommon if you're overweight, light skinned, female, 40+. If you're not those things it can still be that too, just more occurrences in that group.

Best call your GP about it to be sure.

The pain of it is quite something.

saywhatwhatnow · 04/09/2022 08:38

Sound like endometriosis from experience.

Sharp farts!
I'm laughing so much 🤣

My gall bladder attack sounds like that but it was more up my back. I was rolling on the floor in pain. Worse than labour as at least in labour you know whats happening. Also my friend had a kidney stone and was literally screaming in pain.
Have it checked out with your GP as they can check if gallstones present as it will happen again if they are there.
Just recently l had a tremendous pain up my back..no gall bladder any more and it was Covid.

GlitteryFluff · 04/09/2022 08:42

Sounds exactly like a gallbladder attack. You may get more attacks (I did). I had mine removed in March and I'm perfectly fine now. I'd speak to GP.

SallyWD · 04/09/2022 08:42

I've had exactly this pain. It was so severe I actually passed out. Got an emergency appointment with my GP who diagnosed constipation. I've had similar experiences since - always constipation. Do you think it could be that? My friend was hospitalised was this. She thought she was having an ectopic pregnancy but it was constipation.

MollieTD · 04/09/2022 08:43

@saywhatwhatnow that’s interesting! I was diagnosed with endo after fertility investigations a long time after having these ‘bowel spasms’ - wonder if that’s what it was all along?!

mynameiscalypso · 04/09/2022 08:45

Gallbladder attack would be my guess too. I thought I was dying the first time it happened.

DessicatedWithering · 04/09/2022 08:45

I get that with some dairy - I too have given birth twice without even a paracetamol - there's usually one attack without anything coming out and then the next one is when I evacuate my entire digestive system. The painful contractions and sweatiness ease off after the first couple of hours. Never an issue until I hit 45, now it's down to cheese and milk.

Loachworks · 04/09/2022 08:46

Search 'javelin arse' a MN favourite.

I'm being tested specifically for endo and also get these bowel spasms, along with very heavy periods.

RebeccaCloud9 · 04/09/2022 08:55

That level of pain out of nowhere sounds like when I had kidney stones. Never had gallstones but friends have and they sound similar - Google the position of each and see how it relates to your pain.

Also, the first time I had an ibs attack I fainted from the pain. I often get sweaty from pain when I suffer with them, but using the loo always helps the pain to pass.
