AIBU to be angry my hairdresser took so long?

I just need to vent. I'm just feeling really frustrated.

Went to get my hair cut this morning, It was a half head of highlights and a trim. My hair is fine and shoulder length, so definitely not a lot of it.

My appointment was at 11, the girl took until 12 to do a half head of foils, then said she'd leave it in 45 minutes and went to do her next client. Over an hour later she came to check on my foils, got the Saturday girl to wash it (another 5 minutes later) then I was sat for another 20 minutes before she came to do the cut. I asked her not to blow dry it as I said that my parking ticket was due to expire and left. At this point it was 2 o clock.

By this time I was so hungry and just angry that I had been sat without any attention for so long during the appointment. I have a young baby, so it's rare that I get out on my own to do appointments like this and the way I'm feeling now I don't want to ever get my hair cut again. I just feel like my whole day was ruined.

Am I being silly?!

Sorry my comment was unclear. I guess i expect them to go to someone else and then come back to me after 40 mins, not after 70 min, i think they of course have to slot people in between but not leave me waiting too much longer. I hope that makes sense. So do a cut in between but then come back to me, not a cut, blowdry, straighten etc.

Just thought of the thread. Have booked a ‘regrowth’ colour appointment and the email confirmation have just arrived saying ‘duration: 2 hours 45 mins’.

Man alive! Just WHY? How? Hate it.

I’d love a quick turnaround ‘hair bar’ type place for the non-complicated stuff and for those of use who want to be in and out with no fuss.

I know this is another matter but the lack of pricing transparency gets me too. There seems to be an assumption that cost is not a factor and it’s very hard to get an actual price ahead of the appointment. Anyone else find this?

My trim and highlights usually take around 3 hours. I thought that was about normal?

Yes it sounds about normal to me as well, and that's without the blowdry as I have a rough dry, and without the cut, as I don't like them cutting the colour out the minute they've done it (I know they're not really, but I'd rather get my hair cut and then get the highlights done a week or so later).

My bigger gripe is that they never seem to get close enough to the hairline so the highlights grow out really quickly. My previous hairdresser was better but she went on mat leave and didn't come back after covid.

No, I alternate between two salons depending on who has availability and they both have their prices on their websites.

BIWI · 07/09/2022 15:03

Like @gatehouseoffleet, the salon group I use has all the prices on their website, so no issue with transparency,

Flyinggeesei234 · 07/09/2022 15:19

@gatehouseoffleet and @BIWImine has ‘prices from’ on their website. Get this! General transcript of recent conversation at salon. I booked a ‘regrowth’ colour via their website. Called in on my way past to change the date.

Me: can I just check what the price will be please?
Hairdresser: Sure your booking says ‘regrowth colour, cut and blow dry’. It will be £80.
Me: I only booked a regrowth colour!
Hairdresser: oh the computer automatically adds a cut, we assume you will be having a cut and finish.
Me: No, just the regrowth colour please. What will that be?
Hairdresser: Well the colour and blow dry will be £70. We don’t let clients walk out with wet hair
me: no blow dry thanks, just a rough dry. Also would the haircut really only be an extra £20?
Hairdresser: erm, let me just go and ask… (returns with a colleague and they both tap away at the computer) … Ok, regrowth colour only and rough dry will be £40. £50 if we do a toner.
Me: OK that’s great, thanks.

i absolutely hate it.

Most, if not all hairdressers around here quote’from’ prices-short hair from x, medium from y, long hair from z. I have long hair so the sky is the limit- I have to make sure I have well over my guess in the account and generally it goes even higher. Hate it!!!

Tierne · 08/09/2022 07:37

Hairdresser pricing along with the length is what drove me away from them too. They have a really bad habit of basically upselling in a really natural way and then billing you for something you hadnt realised you had agreed to.
Eg you ask for an ashy brown colour. It's time to wash it out and they're like "so I'm just popping a toner on to neutralise any brassy tones". They wash it off, then: "....the ends really are very dry, this deep conditioner is going to do them the world of good".

Add on: an extra fifty quid for toner and deep treatment. Personally I think those should be included, if I've asked you to do a colour then it's on you to make sure it's the tone I asked for. Why do I need to pay extra for the toner?

BatshitCrazyWoman · 08/09/2022 07:46

I love my hairdresser because she's quick - a half head of highlights, cutting and drying takes an hour and a half. A full head takes two hours. They will offer to get you food from the sandwich place next door, too, if it's lunchtime.

Flyinggeesei234 · 08/09/2022 07:59

Agree @Tierne or at least they should say ‘to achieve the colour we would need to dye and then use a toner, the cost will be £x’.

The sneaky up selling is so wrong.
