I’ve had one of those days...

Would really appreciate hearing some good things from people - anything you’d like to talk about, really:

happy/heartwarming/fun/funny/exciting/quiet/content/cosy things.

Ideas for topics:

Food (always a favourite)
Pets + photos
Happy moments
Funny stories
Interesting facts about obscure things

Only rule is no discussion about previous threads. Wink All is forgiven, no grudges will be held.

I’m hungry. Yorkshire pudding batter is chilling as I type (is it called typing when you’re on a tablet?). Leftover brisket is ready to re-heat.

All is good in the world.

@Qik I take a similarly wide-eyed view whenever I’m in the Post Office. The Post Office is extraordinary. All the packages that represent business, birthdays, forgotten items returned to owners; there’s a story in every box. The Royal Mail is astounding. I give them 85p for a stamp and they take the card I’m sending all the way across the country and right to the front door of the person I want to send greetings to! It’s astonishing! People grumble about the post. It’s completely amazing. 85p and by the very next day, my letter is in someone else’s house!
(I am not a secret member of Royal Mail staff btw. Just a weirdo post enthusiast)

I have just walked into work and a little boy, maybe 4, ran up to me, beamed at me and said "good morning!" and ran off. Oo it did my heart good.

@NiqueNique their dad is exactly like that! He's my best boy! He just came when I shouted him with the promise of Cheerios!

Aww he's far too much cuteness!!! I'd get nothing done with him around.

Needmorelego · 04/09/2022 10:52

@TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination there is some film of the baby capybaras online from Chester Zoo. I think it was on tik tok cos my daughter showed me.

SpikeyHatePotato · 04/09/2022 10:52

@KimberleyClark @Needmorelego Llamas are larger, with longer ears, and to be fair can be pretty offensive! They are def not at sweet natured as alpacas, they spit a lot (like camels) and apparently the stink lasts for a good 24hours!

I love watching little children at junior parkrun.
The big ones are amazing too and run far better than I ever will.
But I love that childish way the young ones run and their total sense of achievement.

BitOutOfPractice · 04/09/2022 10:57

Yes @BogRollBOGOF I am lucky enough to be able to watch junior parkrun from my home on the odd occasion I am up early enough and it is indeed a wonderous thing. Then again, I get a bit emosh about parkrun in general. It's just such a marvellously wholesome thing I think. Free, supportive, good for you, inspiring. Love it!

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 04/09/2022 11:00

@PuppyMonkey I love your gorgeous boy with his teddy!

I have part shared in a gorgeous choc lab, but hate his teddy behaviour (destroys them) so I won't buy him anything with a face!!

I'd post a photo but as he's technically not mine, I'd better not.

BogRollBOGOF · 04/09/2022 11:02

I'm totally a fully paid-up/ volunteered up member of the parkrun cult 😂

It's so healthy, body, mind, soul and community.

At one of my regular runs there's a care home on the route and prior to Covid there'd often be a couple of residents blanketed up in their wheelchairs marshalling and it was so wonderful seeing them involved in the community. I miss them.

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 04/09/2022 11:06

a friends baby boy was born yesterday & he scrumptious!!! Absolutely gorgeous. Two girls (2.5 & 4.5) blonde mini mum's! Little fella dark mini Dad, mum doing well, everyone over the moon!!

sadly have to get my fill via video/FaceTime as they're overseas. But it's enough to know he's here safe & mum is well.

Leafblow · 04/09/2022 11:07

Found a few suitcases of old clothes while me and my sister were clearing out my mums attic yesterday. There were lots of outfits I remembered from being a child like a stripey jumper our brother wore at christmas one year and a baby grow I was wearing in the only picture I have of myself with my grandpa, my sisters favourite pink boots, a green onesie with dinosaur feet sewn on the bottom.
I brought them downstairs and mine and my sisters children spent the afternoon dressing up as us and it was so sweet to see them and see all those clothes I remembered but didn't know she kept.
Our children look a lot like us and it was like getting to watch us as kids again. That felt very cosy.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 04/09/2022 11:08

i watched a family with their dogs yesterday
they had a springer spanial, happy
a puppy so happy and eager to please, they were training it with treats
and a middle one who was also eager to please, but they all ignored it Sad
i wanted to remind them about their middle child - but then i diecided perhaps it was the oldest

NiqueNique · 04/09/2022 11:35

Ah this thread is wonderful!!

I wish i remembered the username of the OP whose thread hit a nerve yesterday and whose head I bit off (not entirely unreasonable of me, tbf) as I’d like to offer Flowers and make sure there are no hard feelings. If you happen to read, next time I’ll try to remain calm and not let my anger get the better of me - it’s not your fault that you don’t have any personal experience from which to make judgements on things you don’t necessarily know much about, so I should have just explained from my perspective.

Anyway, today is a new day and thankfully I am in a much better place than I was yesterday. Thank you all for such lovely comments. Smile

Later today I'm going to go out for a walk and pick some blackberries. It’s a grey and gloomy day so I’m hoping I’ll be able to get a good haul as hopefully there won’t be hordes of people with the same idea! Wink I’ll leave plenty for others too, of course...

Oops I realise I broke my own rule and referred to previous thread! But it needed to be said. Sorry mysteryusername (hope that’s not someone’s real username Grin ) for being overly combative. Flowers

@Leafblow that really made me smile. What a lovely way to relive memories and connect with the past. It made me think of my grandparents - My grandfather took so many photos and I love looking at them to remember my childhood. That reminds me I must get some old school photo albums! Has anyone seen any nice ones recently that they could recommend?

Lovely foals. It is awesome to realise that what you do with them over the next 12 months will determine their character and relationship for life. Whether they are scared of the farrier, difficult to handle, nippy etc. That is a powerful thought.

NiqueNique · 04/09/2022 13:35

There are brambles in my garden. Didn't plant them, they are just there, all wild and prickly and making delicious fruit. I spend a few minutes a day picking them and always feel better afterwards.

Also - bunnies! We have two and they are just the cutest. They get all excited asking for snacks and it is SO hard to resist those wee faces!

My ddog had cancer in May. She got the all clear this week.
