He's 17 - we just spent a day in Paris. Did the usual tourist sights. But there was one thing he saw that fascinated him and he couldn't stop talking about it.

Can you guess what it was?

Yes - that's it.

Watching people throw away good money - because of over confidence

Seriously, that can't have been the most interesting thing he saw
Good God , my kids should have been swept away by SS years ago

Jim Morrison's grave

We’ve just come back from three days in Paris and I didn’t see this at all! Mustn’t have looked in the right places.

My 8 yo DS was a bit obsessed with junk souvenirs though 😂

We had a great time - went up the Eiffel Tower (walked around beside it an addition three times…), visited the Pantheon and the Louvre and even went to a big water park. Also had some lovely food.

Id never liked Paris the other two times I was there - once as a school trip and once with my exh and some friends - but this was the first time I was in charge of arrangements 😁

Just by the Eiffel Tower.
Along with the people who want you to sign a petition, sand art etc

And a lot of souvenir sellers

Always seems to be happening near Sacre Coeur too. They have them on blankets and when the police come round the corner they scoop the whole lot up and walk away.

A double-decker train?

My ex studied in Paris so I visited quite a few times. I was entranced by the double decker trains. I took DD to Paris a few weeks ago and was delighted that I got to ride them again.

@cakeorwine @Lancrelady80 ah that would explain it - I let 14yo dc go to Oxford Street London with a friend yesterday and they said no signof card sharps etc which is an abiding memory for me!

whynotwhatknot · 02/09/2022 20:42

yeah seen them in london for years now always a con

MintyGreenDreams · 02/09/2022 20:45

Oh god I fell for this years ago in Spain.Never again.

I thought the police were cracking down on this in London - based on my YouTube research!

Nah, westminster Bridge and around that area is packed with them.

For my DS the most interesting thing in Paris was a policeman with a gun chasing a thief. In Venice it was seeing a dead rat in the canal.

Superbabe64 · 02/09/2022 20:54

They were all along Westminster Bridge when I cycled across the other say...about 30m apart

cakeorwine · 02/09/2022 21:01

Apparently it's been going on since the time of Ancient Greece

I was going to say something to do with a bin lorry (but then saw you had posted what it actually was).
I immediately thought bin lorry because when I went to Norway with my ex and we had a real adventure and saw amazing scenery, reindeer, Northern Lights, hiked in the Arctic etc... the thing that most excited him and which he constantly talked about when we got back was how the fucking bin lorry had to go on the ferry to cross the fjord.

IWasFunBeforeMum · 02/09/2022 21:25

Condom machines in the streets.

NameChangeLifeChange · 02/09/2022 21:26

We went to Paris as teens with my parents- the main memory my brother talks about is seeing a hobo take a dump in the street and having to all politely step over his stream of wee.
Ah Paris!

For me - the most interesting thing was returning to where we parked the car. There were people selling street food which they were cooking in shopping trolleys. Fascinating

OMG YES!! I saw this in Paris a couple of weeks ago! That was the most fascinating thing I saw. A group of people (I’m guessing mostly migrants) had set up an outdoor market selling peanuts, and random stuff. Loads of people were crowde around one man skewering kebabs on a shopping trolley. It was an incredible sight!

Did you see this near Montmartre?

Justwantanicepeacfulholiday · 02/09/2022 21:53

Disappointed it’s not the poo vacuum.

Thats my lasting memory of visiting Paris at 16.

Before anyone asks, it’s exactly what is sounds like. For removing massive poos off the streets.

FlippertyGibberts · 02/09/2022 21:55

Who does the poos?

I saw this - but at a station where we had parked the car.

Fascinating - it reminded me of some of my travels in Asia. Not Paris

For poos read dogshit. It has always been bad in Paris. Several years ago they invented bikes that pulled up and vaccumed up the shit. They also wash the streets every morning to get rid of the (human) piss. Paris can stink in the summer.

Basically the premise of the tv show , called hustle,

Huntswomanonthemove · 02/09/2022 22:22

Dog shit, would have been my guess.

venusandmars · 02/09/2022 22:27

My teen dc was most impressed by being able to go into a pet shop and look at little kittens and puppies. Dreadful practice. But not something that happens here so they were captivated by it!
