To wonder where to get a kitten from?

I really want a kitten but I am really unsure where to buy them from? Never see them for sale anywhere?

Cats rescue. They often have litters.

AverageJoan · 01/09/2022 23:03

Try local cat rescues. I have two cats which came from a rescue when they were 8 weeks old for a tiny fee which included their jabs and neutering. Looking online can be a minefield knowing who can be trusted and reputable.

CherrySocks · 01/09/2022 23:04

Local branch of RSPCA

Kayemm · 01/09/2022 23:05

Cats Protection. They will be spayed and injected and gorgeous 😍

Thousands on gumtree

ISeeTheLight · 01/09/2022 23:05

Our local cat rescues are inundated with kittens at the moment. Most of them aren't posted online though (eg their websites, catchat, their FB pages) so best to contact the rescues directly.

Some rescues won't home kittens to families with small children and some insist on adopting 2 at the same time unless you've already got a cat.

mondaytosunday · 01/09/2022 23:06

Good luck with that - I spent months trying to adopt a kitten but every shelter or charity (I live in London) said they had a long waiting list for kittens. I bought from a breeder in the end.

Toottooot · 01/09/2022 23:06

A farm.

upanddownandupanddown · 01/09/2022 23:07

Cat rescue. And consider an adult cat. A lot less work, you already know it’s personality and will come ready litter trained etc. Not as cute, but just as loving (can you tell I have a cat I adopted as an adult 😉 aged 7 when I got him) x

JohnsShirt · 01/09/2022 23:07

Ask around your friends, often people know someone whose cat had kittens.

loves2plan · 01/09/2022 23:08

Definitely don't get one from gumtree, so many people breeding for profit and not looking after the litters properly

BobbysGirly · 01/09/2022 23:09

Have you asked your neighbours if they will be happy to pick up after your cat OP? Or have you considered cat proofing your garden so your neighbours are spared cat 💩 duty?

Wolfiefan · 01/09/2022 23:10

If you don’t want a specific pedigree you go to rescue. Not buy from gumtree off someone who couldn’t care less about their pet’s welfare.

Squishy2 · 01/09/2022 23:28

@BobbysGirly well no because the stench from their garden is barely enough for me to bare! They breed puppies! They will barely notice

Our local rescue is inundated with kittens and, like a lot of rescues, it would rehome further afield if there were a genuine offer. I even know of rescues that advertise out of area.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 02/09/2022 00:53

If you contact the local vets clinic, I know where I live that they often have kittens on their fb page or talk to a receptionist. I got my two this way, they had someone who was giving away kittens and they connected us.

I took 2, another connection took the other 2 and the woman herself kept the mother cat and she was neutered asap but it wasn't possible for her to keep kittens too as already had an array of pets and a very full household. I still send 6 monthly pictures for her children as i promised to let them see the cats grow up.

itsCORN · 02/09/2022 00:55

rescue a cat, definitely do not buy from gumtree, no true animal lover would suggest that

Squirrelsnut · 02/09/2022 01:08

I volunteer in a cat rescue and we have 3 litters of gorgeous kittens at present. At one point there were 27 kittens! No shortage here!

what the fuck?! you absolute loon

WaffleIron · 02/09/2022 03:02

RSPCA as a first call, but their acceptance criteria can be prohibitive for some (i.e., location of property, adjacency to roads, etc.).

Failing that, Gumtree and Pets4homes. I've had an easy time with both.

You absolute psychopath.

I have a dog and don’t mind cats wondering in. Cats shouldn’t be locked up in homes, they should be allowed to wander.

And for psychos like this one here, you don’t own the world. We share it with animals .

Musti · 02/09/2022 03:34

*wandering

SophieJo · 02/09/2022 06:19

My cat died after 18 years and I was heartbroken. Decided after a few months that I’d like to have another one so went to local cat shelter as they put an advert out saying they were desperate for adopters.
I was turned away by them and many more because I live on a main road yet my cat had survived 18 years there. I felt so downhearted.
