To wonder where to get a kitten from?

I really want a kitten but I am really unsure where to buy them from? Never see them for sale anywhere?

Use a local animal shelter. They usually have kittens. They will microchip and neuter the cat and check it for any kind of health issues.

Sometimes you can also get a discounted pet insurance plan for the first month through some of the shelters.

The big shelters have websites where you can view the cats they currently have for rehoming.

You will usually need to be approved for adoption first though and someone will interview you/check your home. I got my cat through Battersea Cats and Dogs home.

Below are links to some of the big animal shelters:

I’m worried about this as although we don’t love on a main road, we have an industrial estate at the end of it and quite a few lorries go past

Please don't buy a kitten, adopt one if you have to. Animal shelters are inundated with them after spring kitten season so there's no excuse for buying in my opinion. Have you had kittens before? Believe me they can be bloody hard work, so you need to be totally prepared, they're not just a cute accessory, they're a huge responsibility, I've worked in an animal shelter and also foster cats/kittens, it's not a decision to be taken lightly. Kittens were often brought back to the shelter because the new owners couldn't cope with them or didn't realise what caring for them entailed.

We got our kittens from a rescue, we had to try a couple of rescues as the first one had no kittens available but eventually got our beautiful cats.

RSPCA as a first call, but their acceptance criteria can be prohibitive for some (i.e., location of property, adjacency to roads, etc.).

Failing that, Gumtree and Pets4homes. I've had an easy time with both.

There are hundreds of cat rescues aside from the RSPCA.

Try all the cat shelters but they can be fuasy about ehere they rehome. If cat sheltera no help look at pets4homes website, there’s loads on there. Many aren’t looked after properly 😭 but many are and you can tell quite quickly from the videos if the owner is ok.

Got ours from cats protection. They were older kittens, 5 and 7 months so young enough to be giddy but not young enough to be absolute arseholes Grin

As an empath, I'm sensing @BobbysGirly is not a fan of cats. Or Facebook posts about cats.

QueenoftheNimbleFlyingCat · 02/09/2022 08:21

Bobbysgirly are you okay hun?

OP, contact a local rescue as they always have kittens, I was put on a waiting list but my name came round very quickly. Whatever you do, don't go on gumtree.

pennysarah · 02/09/2022 08:21

A rescue, a big one like cats protection or a small local one. Lots of kittens available at the moment near me. Generally kittens get rehomed in pairs as it's better for them and you (they keep each other entertained).

CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 02/09/2022 08:29

If you're in Somerset or nearby let me know - my sisters cat just had kittens and still has a couple available.

Adversity · 02/09/2022 08:30

We adopted a 1 year old she is now 13 from the RSPCA. Our previous cat was a really old chap of about 10 when we got him from Cats Protection League.

Go to a shelter and see which cat chooses you whether kitten or full grown.

No positive experience with cat rescue centres. We wanted two young kittens as we have 3DC. I was offered rescued feral adult cats,no thanks. The youngest one we were offered was 8 months and obviously had behavioural problems. I actually found them irresponsible and judgemental. We bought two kittens from a site like gumtree in the end.
