This will probably rile up the troll hunters but Aibu to ask if you have a story that people are like “yeah, sure that happened!”

I’ll go first.

I was chatting to a guy on WhatsApp, we had met a few times and I was really into him. I was replying to a message to him and was sat on the toilet at the time. I dropped my phone and in the scramble of grabbing it before it fell on the (tiled) floor I had deleted the message I was typing and pressed the little microphone button next to the text box. So instead of sending him the flirty message asking for date number 3, I sent him a very panicked fart int he form of a voice note. I blocked him and never saw him again.

I saw a puma like animal (massive sandy coloured cat) jump over our fence and run into the fields a few years ago.

I've seen triangular orange lights over the fields at night also. Always in the small hours. One of these times was while driving home through the village next to ours at about 2am. These trio of orange lights appeared and were so low and silent, and moving together so slowly that me and the only other car around on the road that night stopped to watch them. I wound my window down and watched. They weren't flashing lights. Just on steady and moving as one. But spread apart. The guy in the other car actually got out and just left his door wide open and walked a few steps into the other side of the road, they were so mesmerising. He looked back to me and said ''are you seeing this?''. I nodded. I felt like we were both dreaming tbh.

One of the lights disappeared. Then came back. And then all 3 just shot up and away into the night sky. Gone. No sound. Guy looked at me for a moment before getting back in his car and we both drove away.

I once went for an interview for a job and the receptionist showed me a seat and then went off somewhere.
While I was sat waiting a wasp flew in. I tried to sit still and ignore it, but it kept flying round me.
It flew really close to my ear and in a panic I stood up and started running round the room trying to get away from it.
I ended up shouting ' just fuck off you bastard ' then turned round to see the man who was interviewing me looking shocked at the doorway.
I didn't get the job and I still cringe at it to this day.

This really made me laugh 😂

I won a Facebook competition for a signed copy of a new book. The competition organiser (who was the publisher not the author) messaged me and asked for my address.

10 minutes later the book came through my letter box. The signed message inside said "I didn't want you to wait for it to be delivered". Impressed, I messaged back and it turned out the author lived in the next road.

Why is everyone so fucking miserable on this forum. I just want some funny stories to cheer up after a horrible day.

Ignore the miserable cows, OP. Let them stew in their own bile. This is a great thread!

ScruffMuffin · 02/09/2022 23:31

Agree with the PP! And if it weren't for this thread, I might never have remembered to figure out how I saw Tiny Grandad! Sweet man, he was. He died about ten years ago, aged 90.

When I was younger, I used to think that Judy from The Tweenies was inside the wall opposite my bed. Never told anyone this though.

Of course my memory is hazy regarding where exactly she was as this was years ago. but it was definitely Judy. Haha.

i had similar. i bought a book on eBay at around midnight, had a knock at the door the next morning and took a parcel from a man who wasn’t my usual postman but thought nothing of it and then realised after I’d opened it that it was the eBay seller. I felt pretty bad and messaged him to say thanks for insanely fast delivery

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 03/09/2022 00:57

Was it Kurt Cobain?

Hah! I wish!

happinessischocolate · 03/09/2022 01:06

If it's Duran Duran I'm SO JEALOUS! I always had a crush on him when he was younger 😊

It can't be as Duran Duran became famous in the early 80s, planet earth was 1981, Rio 1982 so too early.

Lived in a shared apartment. Went out with roommate and her boyfriend and a few others. Work up and boyfriend was next to me in the bed. (definitely didn't have sex!) Told him to get back to roomates room.

Next morning I found his watch on the floor. A rolex or something ridiculous. I threw it in the bin on my way to work. Didn't want to look guilty and cause a row ( even though nothing happened!!).

That evening, roomate says her boyfriend lost his watch, he was really devastated.

Argh

You threw away a Rolex watch? Why?? Why not quietly give it back to him? (Or maybe ask him what the hell he was doing in your room?!)

stillvicarinatutu · 03/09/2022 02:16

I do t get that one either ? Why is it unbelievable?
You know a Rolex is worth around 5k ?
That makes you a not nice person- not a great tale to tell ?

I, along with 2 other family members, were struck by lightning. We were huddled together, ironically hiding from it, we were ok apart from strange bruising on our skin afterwards but no one believes us

Just remembered another weird one. My parents and 2 siblings went on holiday a few years ago to Spain (I'm a bit older than them so had grown out of family holidays by that point) and were out walking one day. They passed a restaurant and saw someone sitting inside that they were utterly convinced was me - same type of clothes, same hair, same build, same facial features. They thought I'd flown out to surprise them. They actually went into the restaurant and it was only when they got up very close that they realised it was someone else, but still to this day they say that the resemblance was uncanny and it was definitely my doppelganger.

My eldest daughter has a doppelgänger, My daughter 6’ tall with red hair. Quite opposite to me in looks.
We were in a pharmacy one day collecting a prescription, this pharmacy is always busy as it’s right next to our doctors surgery, there’s always a wait to be served, I was seated, dd was stood next to me. The assistant said to dd, “Are you Mrs Thinkings daughter? How is she?
Dd replied “Yes I am, she’s here” and pointed to me. The assistant looked puzzled and said that’s not your mum. I spoke up and said I was indeed xxx mum. She called another woman out from behind the counter to see DD, this other woman calls dd by her name, “Hi xxx, lovely to see you.”
The first assist said she’s not the xxx we know. confusion for everyone for a few minutes until it was established that there is two Mrs Thinkings with a tall red haired daughter named xxx. They were amazed at the likeness of my dd to this other 6’ red haired xxx.
Here’s where it gets weird.
The thing is DH and I had only fairly recently moved into the area which is is ten miles from where we previously lived, we hadn’t been registered with the surgery for long, dd doesn’t live with us, she’s married, she still lives in the area we used to live in and was visiting us for the day, our surname is unusual, it’s an Irish surname and always has to be spelled out to people.

We must be related to this other family in some way, as there aren’t many others with our surname in the area. The original family came from Ireland to the mainland, to Wales, during the potato famine, one of their sons, DH’s great grandfather and his family migrated to northern England with his wife and two year old daughter in the late 1890’s. They settled here and went on to have more children, a son who was DH’s grandfather, another son who died childless and five daughters.

When I was a kid (only about 6 years old) another kid was killed in a freak accident, we did not know this kid but it was front page news everywhere with pictures of her.

My mam got dozens and dozens of condolance calls the day the story broke from people who thought it was me (dispite the kid having a completely different name and living in another city), my mam got quite creeped out by it.

I was so young I didnt really have a great awareness of what I looked like, too me it was just another blonde haired girl about my age but adults insisted she was the spitting image of me.

People kept telling me and my mam if your doppleganger dies then you follow soon after which probably what caused my mam to be freaked out (such a wierd thing to say to someone but several people said it) well spoiler Im now mid 30s so I dont think the whole 'you die with your doppleganger' thing is true.

I've got several.

Saw a UFO many years ago. I was on the early shift going to work, walking down High Holborn, around 7.30am. Glanced along a side road as I was crossing and noticed an L shaped thing hovering above a building in the distance. It was black, with white lights on, and was just there. This took a moment or two to sink in, and I walked back to check, but it had gone.
There were sightings of similar things in different places around that time, so I feel a little vindicated.

A few years ago I dreamed about visiting a house which had a strangely vaulted loft space. You got into the loft from a door on the corridor (which had rooms on the other side) and then there were beams stretching up, and sideways, creating a kind of mezzanine space (it's very hard to describe). That summer we had our usual location holiday and got chatting to someone on the beach. He was out with his son, who was a similar age to DC. We ended up arranging to visit his house, which wasn't far from where we were staying, to drop over details of a dog groomer - a long and irrelevant aside.
When we got to the house, we were invited in to meet his dogs, and given a tour of the house. On the first floor was a long corrido with rooms along one side, and turning a corner, a door. He opened it - it led into a loft which was the exact mirror image of the one I'd dreamed about.

DH is convinced that before he knew me he had an image of a perfect woman that he was looking for and that the moment he met me I matched every aspect of his mentally constructed perfect woman. I mean like everything from hair colour to skin tone, voice, interests… everything.

If he’s telling the truth, I think that counts as an almost unbelievable story…

Whilst working in Italy over 20yrs ago, I lived near the Dolomites in the winter, I saw a black squirrel and a panther (not at the same time) the panther was especially magnificent and I'd have given anything to have taken a photo.

When I was 9 years old, I had terrible tonsillitis with a very high fever. One night I was so delirious with fever I saw a family of native Americans stood around the foot of my bed, just watching and smiling. They stayed there all night. Finally fading away at the break of dawn. The next morning I told my mum who wouldn't believe me because when she was a little girl, an apparition of native Americans had visited her when she was unwell and thinks she must have told me the story and I must have created a false memory. I really didn't and she'd never told me her story. We have no links with North America. Very strange.

@SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit - I went to junior school in 1970's/80's with Jason Kay (Jamiroquai). His DM was a then famous impersonator called Karen Kay (who my own DM did a parents race with). He wasn't there long. There is no record of them even living in our village. No one believes me (except my DM)

What the actual fuck?!?! 'Your doppelgänger follows soon after' is a new one on me. How appalling people actually thought to say that to your mum!! And I have one of those faces, people think they see me all over, so law of averages, I'd be long dead!

A long time ago, i use to go to the same pub every weekend
I knew the security / Bouncers fairly well
Worked with one of them
One day i wasnt allowed in
I argued why and they told me i already knew why. I didnt
Anyway, they told me that i had used stolen cards in there the week before, it wasnt me
After a lot of back and forth they allowed me to see the CCTV of me using these stolen cards !
Well…. It was so weird it was my complete double!! Soooo Freaky!!!

I went to a friends funeral and a Carpenters song was played at the end of service. After the wake I drove home and remembered I had to go into a shop to buy a birthday card. I was standing looking at the cards when a woman also looking at cards started singing the same song that had been played at the funeral quietly to herself - it proper freaked me out!

Mamai90 · 04/09/2022 01:21

I'm usually quite a logical person and not into all that woo stuff but my friend was very much into manifesting and she was living the life of her dreams. I refused to believe any of it but after 8 years of infertility and giving my infertility a lot of negative energy I thought I'd nothing to lose when she gave me a law of attraction book.

I felt silly but I wrote my life how I wanted it to be. Describing the baby daughter I really wished for. When I was writing it I tried to visualise how she would look. I did this for a couple of weeks and then decided it was a load of rubbish and forgot about it.

Two months later I was staring at the first ever (natural) positive pregnancy test I'd had in 8 years.

And here she is. My daughter and spookily like I'd imagined. I always feel foolish telling people but it has definitely changed my mindset, I'm not saying I'm a full believer but I definitely think there's something to be said about a positive mindset. Even during my pregnancy I focused on having a positive birth experience and it went like a dream. I used to always say I'd never have a baby. Now I'm visualising baby number two 😆
