To ask you “no one will ever believe that happened” story?

This will probably rile up the troll hunters but Aibu to ask if you have a story that people are like “yeah, sure that happened!”

I’ll go first.

I was chatting to a guy on WhatsApp, we had met a few times and I was really into him. I was replying to a message to him and was sat on the toilet at the time. I dropped my phone and in the scramble of grabbing it before it fell on the (tiled) floor I had deleted the message I was typing and pressed the little microphone button next to the text box. So instead of sending him the flirty message asking for date number 3, I sent him a very panicked fart int he form of a voice note. I blocked him and never saw him again.

Anyone else dying to know who the handsome lead singer was?

I'm guessing Kelly Jones from the Stereophonics!

I believe you! I was bitten by a ladybird when I was young. And yes, it does bloody hurt!
I steer clear of the fuckers now.

Lived in a shared apartment. Went out with roommate and her boyfriend and a few others. Work up and boyfriend was next to me in the bed. (definitely didn't have sex!) Told him to get back to roomates room.

Next morning I found his watch on the floor. A rolex or something ridiculous. I threw it in the bin on my way to work. Didn't want to look guilty and cause a row ( even though nothing happened!!).

That evening, roomate says her boyfriend lost his watch, he was really devastated.

Argh

He probably sleepwalked and remembered nothing of it. Why didn't you leave the watch in the bathroom or kitchen?

My money is on a Bay City Roller.

ScurryfungeMaster- I saw it last Friday. Thank you for the link and I do hope that he has been found safe and sound. It wasn’t him because the colouring was different.

Chohlin654- I’m in the SW. that’s interesting that you had a spotting.

EscapeRoomToTheSun- I read about the reintroduction of sea eagles and they are impressive birds. It was certainly not one as the markings on a golden eagle are different.

I got bitten by a ladybird last year and my toe swelled to double the usual size!

I also saw a deer running down the road near Leeds University in the middle of the night about 20 years ago (yes I was drunk, but it was definitely real!)

Some years ago I went to the hospital with what seemed like a kidney infection, they did a CT scan and saw a mass in my abdomen, talked about the possibility of a tumour and they were going to do keyhole surgery to have a look at it. It was really busy at the hospital and after a couple of days waiting and not getting a surgery slot they discharged me for the weekend and said to come back after the weekend and I'd hopefully get a slot then.

Over the weekend my ex's parents persuaded me to go to their church where there was some visiting American pastor (the intense laying on of hands kind), they mentioned my suspected tumour and the pastor and others insisted on doing that laying on of hands and praying thing, praying that the 'tumour' would shrink away and disappear. I rolled my eyes but put up with it to keep them happy.

Went back to the hospital that evening and in the morning had surgery. When the surgeon came to the ward afterwards to talk to me he told me they didn't find anything in there, no mass, no tumour.

The clairvoyant stories are really cool. There is one near me and I’m tempted to go and check it out!

I thought everyone knew that Ladybirds bite?
It normally happens when there is a large population in the local area.

Can’t be a Bay City Roller if the pp was a Goth…I’m thinking 80s.

Wonder if it was Phil Oakey?

I went to a Tarot reading. When I turned up she told me she was feeling very distressed because she had to go to Belfast to visit her very ill brother and would I mind if her partner did the reading - she felt her distress would affect the results. I didn't know at this stage she was Northern Irish, like myself. Her partner did the reading and the hangman came up. He said that it didn't necessarily mean death but that I should be prepared for an event that would be challenging and that I would overcome it. Paid and left.

Two months later I was in hospital getting life saving surgery on a haematoma following a routine operation. I was called by the surgeon an A* patient. I was lucky to survive.

I remember years ago when I was in my 20s my boyfriend and I were texting and it was very lovey dovey but then got a little extra if you know what I mean. Inbetween my cousin had text me, can't remember what about and I ended up replying to her and sending message meant for my boyfriend. I wanted the world to swallow me up. She saw the funny side and thought it was hilarious but I was mortified.

I was lying on the grass as a child out the back garden just looking up at the sky and a proper large passenger plane flew over extremely low, so low it scared me and I ran inside

Nobody believed me!

ScruffMuffin · 02/09/2022 09:01

This isn't impressive compared to some of the other stories, but it's still one that I don't tell because nobody would believe me.

When I was a child (possibly early teens, so not tiny) I was staying over at my grandparents' house. It was summer, so bright quite early in the morning and we'd slept with the window open. They lived in a little two-up, two-down house with a glass conservatory built on the end. Anyway, I was lying on my mattress on the floor and had just woken up. There was a bright patch of light on the ceiling, and it caught my eye because something was moving around on it. As I lay and watched, I realised it was a tiny and perfect reflection of my grandad, at almost a birds-eye view but not quite - I could just make out his legs and see him walking. It was a full-colour image and an exact replica of what was going on right below me. I lay there in fascination watching tiny Grandad walking around, doing whatever he was doing (he was a champion faffer) and the movements on the ceiling tallied with exactly what I could hear, e.g. I'd hear a door open and he'd disappear from view, to reappear a moment later. My younger sister was asleep in the same room and she believed me when I told her. Nobody else ever has. It's obviously to do with the exact angle the the upstairs and downstairs windows/ conservatory windows were angled, and I'm sure it could be replicated. Sadly, I didn't pay enough attention in Physics, but if anyone could provide a diagram to show how an image could be projected on to the ceiling of the storey above!

DancingBudgie · 02/09/2022 09:02

I once went for an interview for a job and the receptionist showed me a seat and then went off somewhere.
While I was sat waiting a wasp flew in. I tried to sit still and ignore it, but it kept flying round me.
It flew really close to my ear and in a panic I stood up and started running round the room trying to get away from it.
I ended up shouting ' just fuck off you bastard ' then turned round to see the man who was interviewing me looking shocked at the doorway.
I didn't get the job and I still cringe at it to this day.

DancingBudgie · 02/09/2022 09:04

Forgot to add that I'm sure he didn't believe that I was shouting obscenities at a wasp.

😁It was very cute! I didn't want to stop watching or get up to mention it in case someone closed a window or moved something and tiny Grandad disappeared.

JohnPrescottsPyjamas · 02/09/2022 09:13

One sunny Sunday I visited a quaint old fashioned sleepy English town in the south of England. There were very few people about as the shops were shut and I was looking in an estate agents window, as you do.

I was aware of a man walking towards me on the pavement and as I glanced at him, I saw he was dressed in, what I would describe as a full 18th century footman’s outfit; powdered wig, long jacket, breeches etc. He passed me and went around the next corner. Nosiness made me want to have a quick look again so I immediately followed where he went.

The road he had turned on to had absolutely no pavement and ran along the large wall of a stately home next to the town that no gates or access points - but he had completely disappeared in the 5 seconds it took me to also get to the corner so there was definitely nowhere he could have gone.

I'm not a believer at all in ghosts or spirits so I cannot explain his presence. He was completely solid, no floaty business or looking transparent! Why would anyone be dressed like that unless there was an event or something going on, but it was just a quiet afternoon?

bigdecisionaboutwork · 02/09/2022 09:17

Scruffmuffin that sounds like a camera obscure, like there were accidentally the right conditions to create one. There's a very famous one in Edinburgh, it's really cool to see!

bigdecisionaboutwork · 02/09/2022 09:17

Obscura not obscure!

ScruffMuffin · 02/09/2022 09:19

I've experienced this too. I was staying with my OH in a hotel in London and we were lazing around in bed in the morning. We noticed a perfect little "film" playing on the ceiling - a replica of the street below with diddy little people, taxis, buses etc. We decided it was a chink of light at the top of the closed curtains creating a camera obscura. www.scienceworld.ca/resource/camera-obscura/
