Is this enough for party bags for a 4 year old?

Into a multicoloured paper bag I was going to put:

Mini slinky
Small bubble wand
Pretty looking paper straw
Bag of haribo
Funsize chocolate bar

Was thinking perhaps a box of pencils or crayons too?

Plenty!
Please cut down on tat, especially plastic....no one needs more pencils and crayons. More than half will end in landfill.

Kaibashira · 30/08/2022 17:30

Sounds perfect!

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 30/08/2022 17:32

Honestly just fill it full of sweets and a piece of cake. The little toys get broken/lost/thrown away immediately. The only things that don't (IME) are tiny pots of Play-Doh and/or a blind bag of Lego minifigs. But if you can't find those on special offer they are pricey.

Mumoftoomanygirls · 30/08/2022 17:33

Sounds good to me.

Soubriquet · 30/08/2022 17:34

All the things that go straight into the bin unfortunately

Passthecake30 · 30/08/2022 17:36

Sounds fine, once the cake is in there it’ll fill the bags out.

Springrolls · 30/08/2022 17:39

I wasn’t going to put the cake in as some people were saying it wasn’t covid friendly after blowing the candles out.

My dc have been to parties since and still took cake home

If you’re than concerned, get a cupcake with a candle on for your child to blow out, and then they can have the cupcake AND cake, whilst everyone else takes cake home

Ship · 30/08/2022 17:42

They love sweets. You could still do cake but just little cupcakes if you’re worried. I think birthday cakes have always been a germ fest to be fair. I would also not too much plastic- it all gets chucked. Marshmallows and milky ways bulk it out a bit. They also like those little temporary tattoos although parents might not appreciate that just before school.

Ineedsleepandcoffee · 30/08/2022 17:44

Sounds fine other than the paper straw that will just make a mess for parents to clean up.

chillipenguin · 30/08/2022 17:45

Plenty enough

JubileeTissues · 30/08/2022 17:45

Just the sweets is fine. The bubbles in
The little wands are rubbish and the plastic tat gets thrown away

OwletteGecko · 30/08/2022 17:46

The 10 books for £10 offer at the works is my go to for party bags. They always look much more expensive but work out cheaper than lots of plastic that gets broken and binned.

MoodyTwo · 30/08/2022 17:47

Perfect , but you have to have cake !!
Off topic slightly but I went to a party where we got a book, it's still DS favourite... the mum got 30 books for £30 and when she had costed up everything it was about the same

I always did this even before Covid - but I think working in a primary school probably makes you hyper aware of how utterly unhygienic most people small children, particularly, are.

JudgeRindersMinder · 30/08/2022 17:48

Don’t bother with the straw, it’ll be bent to hell before it gets home and go straight in the bin! Otherwise it’s all good

bluesky45 · 30/08/2022 17:53

Get rid of the plastic crap. Mini slinkies are rubbish. Party bag toys all just get chucked in the bin here after about 5 seconds. We've had use out of bouncy putty and stickers and bubbles. Other than that, the toys get binned. I'm planning my almost 5 year olds party bags. Mini bath bombs, a letter key ring, haribo, choc buttons and then cake. Might not even do the bath bombs, we will see.

Sometimeswinning · 30/08/2022 18:06

I did hairbands/super hero capes in mine. You can buy 10/15 in bulk for £10ish. Bubblewands are great. Children love them. Then your sweets.

Meltingsocks · 30/08/2022 18:13

Agreee with others, pls don't fill a bag with tat aimed for landfill!!

carefullycourageous · 30/08/2022 18:15

There is too much that in (almost) every child's life already.

I loved the parents who just gave cake and a small bag of sweets.

helogast · 30/08/2022 18:21

Another idea re the cake is that birthday child just blows out the candles on their own slice, I've seen this a few times now

JubileeTissues · 30/08/2022 18:23

"Bubblewands are great. Children love them."

Those mini ones the OP is on about are rubbish. They don't work and run out almost immediately

anderosonnmj · 30/08/2022 18:26

Please, no more plastic crap. We had so much when DS was little. Just give them a cupcake.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 30/08/2022 18:49

Check the Haribo for veggie/halal friendliness if this might affect your guests.

I'd drop the mini slinky, they never work, then get tangled up and thrown away

UWhatNow · 30/08/2022 18:53

Oh god why are you happily giving 4 year olds plastic tat that will go straight in the bin? No wonder the planet is fucked. Be radical - give them a bit of cake and cheery wave.
