Is this enough for party bags for a 4 year old?

Into a multicoloured paper bag I was going to put:

Mini slinky
Small bubble wand
Pretty looking paper straw
Bag of haribo
Funsize chocolate bar

Was thinking perhaps a box of pencils or crayons too?

It sounds fine with a piece of birthday cake too?

AlwaysLatte · 30/08/2022 19:00

I wasn’t going to put the cake in as some people were saying it wasn’t covid friendly after blowing the candles out.
We made a much a smaller cake with the candles on just for blowing them out so the main cake wasn't spat on!

youngestisapsycho · 30/08/2022 19:00

I've never understood the point of party bags... at my kids parties the friends were given a piece of birthday cake and a small pack of sweets when leaving.

Soubriquet · 30/08/2022 17:34

All the things that go straight into the bin unfortunately

You throw your kids party bag stuff in the bin?

LilacPoppy · 30/08/2022 19:02

If the kids are mixing at a party they will get covid regardless if birthday child is positive. Cake blowing won't make any difference.

Mindymomo · 30/08/2022 19:03

I would buy an extra cheap cake to put in. I used to eat it when my Sons came home as they didn’t like cake.

Anon50000 · 30/08/2022 19:04

It sound fine, OP.

Party bags are supposed to be fun. Not that you would think it on worthy MN.

PinktoothbrushBluetoothbrush · 30/08/2022 19:08

We do book from The Works or 5 for £10 deals, sweets, never fails. Another family here who throw the plastic tat out. I’ve also been given bags with seeds in, which was lovely, we had a competition to see whose sunflower grew the tallest which lasted ages after the party.

BeautifulDragon · 30/08/2022 19:09

I would do sweet cones and cake.

Yes…cos they literally break as soon as they get them home

pimlicoanna · 30/08/2022 19:14

I just do sweet cones now. The other stuff just gets chucked away

Thinkbiglittleone · 30/08/2022 19:15

Sounds perfect.
Our DS loved the slinky he got in a party bag.

BigYellowElephant · 30/08/2022 19:18

Kids absolutely hate the cheap books from the works, crap stories and just a big let down when they're expecting a party bag. Most certainly still counts as pointless tat with the added issue that it doesn't even please the kids for 2 mins. Saying that, typical plastic tat party bags are pretty bad too. I've done...

Little ceramic pot to paint with seed to plant in it
Craft kit
Play dough kit with small tub, cutter, loose parts etc

I've also put together themed party bags with no plastic eg princess crown decorating kit, personalised notebook, 4 colour princess pen, sweets etc but this does work out dear if its a full class party, I've only ever done it for 5-6 kids

Oblongogo · 30/08/2022 19:18

I’d avoid the plastic tat for environmental reasons and sweets as someone who’s child goes completely crazy on sugar.

best ‘party bag’ ideas we’ve seen are where each child is given a cheap ball, it lasts longer than a slinky and guaranteed to play with it. Also doesn’t need a bag. Or a single tub of playdoh. Temporary tattoos also fun, And cake. They only care about the cake.

StarlingsInTheRoof · 30/08/2022 20:51

Are you actually suggesting that there will be a kids party and no cake?! You can have cake there or cake in party bag, but there absolutely must be cake. My kids are mercenaries and always go straight for the sugar, ignoring everything else. I like it when they get those little puzzle games so I get to play with them.

MumW · 30/08/2022 21:15

Either put a candle in a cupcake or, if cake isn't to intricate, completely cover with cling film and put the candles into the cake through the film.

Neverendingdust · 30/08/2022 21:18

Ditch the plastic tat and go for edible items instead imo

edwinbear · 30/08/2022 21:34

Temporary tattoos are relatively cheap and were always enjoyed when mine were that age.

Goldbar · 30/08/2022 21:42

Second the suggestion of covering the cake in a couple of layers of clingfilm. Then just stick the candles through carefully.

Orangesare · 30/08/2022 21:49

I put a toy car in, you can buy multi packs and split them. You could do the same with plastic animals or dinosaurs
A page from an usborne magic painting book or stained glass window colouring book and some craft materials
plenty of sweets and chocolate

ThinWomansBrain · 30/08/2022 21:55

Never done party bags, but when my friends children were small I always used to buy sticker books whenever I went over - they'd be amused for hours, and we could chat and drink wine.

autienotnaughty · 30/08/2022 22:06

Slinky sounds great as does straw. I wouldn't do bubbles as they just get thrown. Cake- clingfilm it before candles go on

Oh ffs - kids eat their own bogies and lick shopping trollies…. No need to go to these neurotic lengths…🙄

webuiltthiscityonrockandwheat · 31/08/2022 07:45

For DS i did bags with an activity sheet, a large coloured pencil make from a stick and a cupcake. No plastic, the activity sheet could be recycled and the coloured pencil just added to an existing stash

Ducky88 · 31/08/2022 07:49

Best party bag my kids have ever had was a cape and superhero mask. They still play with them 2 years later. Total cost was probable the same as slinky, bubble wants, sweets, toys etc that we have had in all others.
