AIBU to cry about my big forehead

Big5head · 29/08/2022 21:15

I absolutely hate my forehead and am upset about it everyday. It’s big and makes my face look really ugly and long.

my hairline recedes quite far back and i have a widows peak in the middle. My hair is very wispy and light coloured too which makes more forehead seem even bigger

i know it’s possible to get surgery to reduce the size of it and I’m at the stage of considering it but I’m so wary and it’s so expensive. Same with hair transplants.

I absolutely hate my face and with a different forehead I would be so much happier😥

I think most people have at least one aspect of their appearance that they might like to change

But in all honesty, there are a very few people who are truly beautiful, a very few who are truly unfortunate with their looks, and the vast, vast majority are somewhere in the middle

I expect most people think you look ok

VladmirsPoutine · 29/08/2022 21:22

Yanbu because it's your face but there's ways to work with it. Rihanna's considered one of the most beautiful women in the world and she has a big forehead. I think surgery would be quite extreme but there's ways to work with it different hairstyles, wigs? You could always apply bronzer to the larger parts to contour them. I'm sure you know the thing to do is just to embrace it but that's not always very easy to do. Don't be too harsh on yourself!

McOrange · 29/08/2022 21:23

Solidarity from one huge spam to another

i find photos awful in that I can see the receding line, it literally looks like my hairline goes half way up my head

I actually looked in to getting my hairline tattooed but was told it wouldn’t work properly. The only thing is that I haven’t ever been told by anyone they can see it so I assume I notice it much more than others do, probably the same for you

Nowifi · 29/08/2022 21:23

I have a fringe to cover mine. It's a bit of a nightmare but it's the only way!

Cocopogo · 29/08/2022 21:23

To not like it, fine. To change it, fine. To cry about it, YABU!

BlueKaftan · 29/08/2022 21:24

A fringe is a great option! It’s a great look too.

minipie · 29/08/2022 21:25

I have the widows peak and wispy hair too . This is what fringes are for!

carefullycourageous · 29/08/2022 21:26

I think it would be good to get a fringe, any kind of surgery is a very drastic option.

I massively suspect no one else thinks you look as bad as you think you do.

PonyPatter44 · 29/08/2022 21:26

I am sure that unless you are a Tefal Boffin, its nowhere near as bad as you think it is. I am the opposite to you - I have a really low forehead and I think I look strange because of it. If it really upsets you, go and see a decent hairdresser and see if they can give you some advice...but I bet it's not as bad as you think.

ABitPerplexed · 29/08/2022 21:26

I've got a high forehead but for about 4yrs I went with a blunt fringe which everyone said knocked about 10yrs off me, and deals with the forehead (and the fringe is awesome). I grew it out over lockdowns...but I think it needs to go back in, as I keep noticing my giant forehead again😅. Why not buy one of those clip-in fringes to see how it changes tour overall look. Definitely worth a try before surgery? Good luck

Saz12 · 29/08/2022 21:26

How does forehead surgery work????? Short of a frontal lobe removal to allow the removal of bits of skull (which seems excessive!)?

I hate my forehead to, but generally don’t think about it much.

BodGaoithe · 29/08/2022 21:27

Big thick fringe! Don’t go wispy; it has to be thick enough to hold the shape and not separate if it gets greasy.

Zombiemum1946 · 29/08/2022 21:28

Before doing anything, go for counselling. I work in a speciality that has a lot of people come through who think that surgery will solve how they feel about themselves. Regardless of surgery the pain and depression you feel needs to be dealt with first. Counselling may change how you tackle the problems you have. Expectations of what's possible are often very different from reality, so that also needs addressing. Nobody's perfect and what is deemed attractive is not the norm for most people. Do a bit of people watching and you'll see just how " imperfect " most people are. Most of all be kind to yourself.

chillipenguin · 29/08/2022 21:28

What surgery do you mean? Hair transplant?

Anyway channel your inner Tyra Banks and smize and no one will be looking at your for head anyway.

BashfulClam · 29/08/2022 21:28

I have a massive tefal but so what, some people have big noses or chins we all have something we don’t like. I have had a fringe but now just embrace the face.

hamstersarse · 29/08/2022 21:31

is there a reason why you’ve not had a fringe cut in?

Is your hair so wispy it wouldn’t cover it?

I’m a fellow high foreheader and the blunt fringe works completely. In fact a fringe looks better on a larger forehead

bellac11 · 29/08/2022 21:33

OP says she has a widows peak, its annoying and prevents you have a proper fringe. I would love a proper fringe but this awful cow lick thing means I cant have one properly. Looks awful

LabiaMinoraPissusFlapus · 29/08/2022 21:36

I bet it's not that bad at all. Beauty is the imperfections. A 'perfect' face is boring I think!

Big5head · 29/08/2022 21:38

Thanks for the suggestions. I had a fringe before but it didn’t work out- my skin is oily and it went greasy really quickly. I’ve got a cows lick and widows peak too so the fringe never really sat right, even the hairdresser struggled with it, and it always looked separated and split. So annoying!

humdedum · 29/08/2022 21:38

I know the feeling. The 'Halo' op is so appealing...a fringe works for now although I'm thinning so won't work forever.

toooldtocarewhoknows · 29/08/2022 21:39

Have you tried this?

Simple solution to give optical illusion of a lower hair line.

It will change the proportions of your forehead without drastic action.

bellac11 · 29/08/2022 21:51

I would love a Claudia Winkleman fringe

Firsttimecatlady · 29/08/2022 21:59

You can get some really excellent clip in fringes now- my hairdresser has them in different colours which they use when clients are considering a dramatic colour change… but I know people use them day to day too. Worth exploring- a fake fringe hair piece won’t come with all the challenges of real fringes and might give you a bit more confidence?

minipie · 29/08/2022 22:00

I have a widow’s peak and cowlick and have a fringe!

It does need to be a split/sideways/wispy/choppy kind of fringe rather than a thick blunt one (don’t have enough hair for that anyway)

And I do have to brush it flat when wet to avoid it drying at weird angles, due to cowlick

But it works, I promise! It doesn’t hide my forehead fully but breaks it up and pulls the focus to eyes instead. And it disguises my widows peak, and makes it look softer when I have my hair up

I recommend

Summerfun54321 · 29/08/2022 22:02

I am the same - I embrace chunky head bands or head scarfs. They fix wispy hair in a swept fringe across my forehead and make my hairline look much lower than it is.
