One leg has been swollen for a while. It comes and goes and a few years ago he had cellulitis in the same leg. He’s scratched it today in the garden and it’s bleeding a bit but more worryingly is leaking fluid! I know there’s an association with congestive heart failure, which has worried me a bit as he has a low heart rate to begin with.

Hes 54 and otherwise fit bit recently gets a bit out of breath. WWYD?

The leg.

Yes he should get it seen

Brogues · 27/08/2022 16:25

Ouch. I’d be sending him to doctors with that.

Parrotpretty · 27/08/2022 16:26

Yes absolutely, especially with the colour of his feet.

BarryK3nt · 27/08/2022 16:26

Yeah, phone 111 and see if he can get an OOHs appointment

TroysMammy · 27/08/2022 16:27

The leg needs medical attention today. I've seen people consulting with a GP for less.

Weenurse · 27/08/2022 16:32

Is he diabetic?
It looks like he needs antibiotics

SeaToSki · 27/08/2022 16:33

this biggest risk factor for cellulitis is having had it previously

how low does his heart rate go? If its below 45 ish during the day (assuming he isnt a marathon runner!) he needs to be urgently seen for bradycardia/heart block risk as well as cellulitis

slow heart rate, swollen legs/ankles and out of breath is a worrying constellation of symptoms

giveovernate · 27/08/2022 16:34

A&e cellulitis reoccurs!

Crotonifolia · 27/08/2022 16:35

That looks infected again, at the least. I'd definitely want him to see a doctor about it.

Equallength · 27/08/2022 16:40

He’s only scratched it today. His heart rate is crazy slow, 42 I think sometimes. He saw his GP a year ago about that and they said it was normal.

He isn’t diabetic and is at the gym/exercise classes a couple of times a week.

The foot isn’t a funny colour really I don’t think. Here is another photo.

Foot, other angle

OP posts:
Equallength · 27/08/2022 16:41

He is ringing 111. I have been stern.

OP posts:
eatyourcrustspls · 27/08/2022 16:44

Yep he needs more antibiotics

Equallength · 27/08/2022 16:48

So is this likely to be an infection or heart failure? He’s also had a tickly cough that seems to have lingered. (I’m a worrier though)

ArnoldBee · 27/08/2022 16:48

That looks like hubby's leg. Can't remember the name but it's an autoimmune disease triggered by many things including BP meds. He needs to be seen as may need antibiotics. Hubby has lived with his for a year now.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 27/08/2022 17:00

His foot appears a lot paler to me on the second photo
I'm glad he's phoning 111

Equallength · 27/08/2022 17:01

They’re calling him back in next 6 hours.

where he had his leg crossed it’s left a wet patch on his shorts.

OP posts:
Jalepenojello · 27/08/2022 17:06

The first pic looks like cellulitis. He needs antibiotics ASAP. Like, today. The fluid is likely a build up under the skin due to the infection? I’d guess.

IrisVersicolor · 27/08/2022 17:13

It’s not likely to be heart failure OP that would normally in both feet (Not a me up tho).

IrisVersicolor · 27/08/2022 17:13

Not a medic ^

Equallength · 27/08/2022 17:16

Other foot.

Minor injuries?

Namechange58 · 27/08/2022 17:32

I would say that is an emergency and just drive him to A&E (I work for the ambulance service nhs)

Namechange58 · 27/08/2022 17:34

PS More likely to be infected and restricting blood flow to foot. Need to rule out cellulitis, sepsis, dvt
