One leg has been swollen for a while. It comes and goes and a few years ago he had cellulitis in the same leg. He’s scratched it today in the garden and it’s bleeding a bit but more worryingly is leaking fluid! I know there’s an association with congestive heart failure, which has worried me a bit as he has a low heart rate to begin with.

Hes 54 and otherwise fit bit recently gets a bit out of breath. WWYD?

Glad he's getting it looked at. Whatever the cause, that is not a healthy leg.

Electriq · 28/08/2022 00:48

Hope he isn't waiting too long and gets an answer to his issue.

WtoB · 28/08/2022 00:48

I would say lymphoedema but they will hopefully do bloods to rule out anything immediately life threatening
Then make a follow up referral

QuestionableMouse · 28/08/2022 01:44

NettleTea · 27/08/2022 21:12

could he have lymphodema? Its often missed and that may explain both the cellulitis and the fluid seeping from his leg

This is my suggestion too. It can be hard to diagnose, can lead to cellulitis and often caused the skin to weep, with hard swollen legs.

He should absolutely still be checked out but good news is, it's manageable and there are lots of things to help.

Equallength · 28/08/2022 01:51

He’s been triaged but not seen yet. Only 1 person on duty, a GP he thinks. Leg still dripping and sore. V sad for him.

Looks like Lymphadeama to me, especially if it's leaking fluid and swollen.
I confess that I haven't read the rest of the thread yet so this might have already been mentioned, if so; apologies.

Equallength · 28/08/2022 02:07

What causes it though? Why would he have it?

Glad he’s in the right place @Equallength my brother has awful problems with his legs now and it’s a constant battle for him - all started off by one injury like your dh years ago but which he thought would just get better, but didn’t.
Hopefully your dh gets sent and treated soon, but he definitely needs to stay on top of it x

AiryFairyLights · 28/08/2022 02:10

seen and treated soon not sent x

I don't know really.

I have very recently been diagnosed with it myself, after getting a wound and my leg swelled up. I had to have compression bandages and I'm not in a compression sock.
Previously, I'd had a scrape and was leaking clearish fluid for a few days before I went to the doctor. By then the little wound had become infected and turned into a leg ulcer. Was in compression bandages for a few months at that time as it wouldn't heal.

So, I'm starting to read up about my condition as apparently it's chronic and I now have it for life. Joy.

JestersTear · 28/08/2022 02:20

That should have read now in a compression sock.

I wonder why we can't edit posts? (I'm fairly new)

DaftyLass · 28/08/2022 02:28

I hope he gets seen quickly, I also think it looks like lymphoedema, my daughter (very thin but also super tall) ended up with it for a while, had to have compression socks, massage and such to help

I was told once you have it, there's no cure. Are you saying that your daughter's went away? If so, I'd love to know her secret.

DaftyLass · 28/08/2022 02:40

Hers is not totally gone, but no longer symptomatic

JestersTear · 28/08/2022 02:41

That's something for me to aim for then. 😊

DaftyLass · 28/08/2022 02:43

Absolutely, check out lymphatic drainage massage, she found I very helpful

jennyofthenorth · 28/08/2022 02:48

Any updates? Kinda curious to see what it is!

ShedHead7 · 28/08/2022 02:52

Hope he's not in for too long of a wait. Please make sure he gets his heart checked out while he's there, unless he is an elite athlete or on beta blockers (or other heart slowing meds) there is no way his heart should be that low.

ShedHead7 · 28/08/2022 02:52

*heart rate

Equallength · 28/08/2022 02:54

He’s still waiting. I want to scoop him up and bring him home but that’s not going to get us anywhere

OP posts:
Equallength · 28/08/2022 02:58

His heart rate was 93 on arrival. He has a watch that measures it though and it drops crazy low and even woke him up because of it. An alarm went off on it or something.

OP posts:
Eupraxia · 28/08/2022 03:04

That's a bit worrying, I hope he's ok

DorsetRoots · 28/08/2022 03:18

I'm glad he's taking this seriously OP.
Fingers crossed he gets seen soon.

@GreenFingersWouldBeHandy unhelpful and twattish comment. I've reported your post - whether they take it down or not, you're lacking in something to stick the boot in on this post - contributing absolutely nothing of value. OP is clearly worried and it's very obvious that her DH, like many, minimise and don't like to make a fuss.
